Euro summers and World Cup summers

It’s the Euros this year, and most years when the Euros take place, the summer is either poor or very average. 
 

World Cup summers seem to be better, although there have been a few stinkers.

World Cup summers 2018 and 2014 were decent, while Euro summers 2012, and 2016 were disappointing.

2018 - excellent summer

2014 - good June/July, poor August

2010 - good first half, awful 2nd half

2006 - hottest July on record

2002 - poor June/July, average August

1998 - terrible June/July, sunny August

1994 - decent summer with a hot July

1990 - hot summer

1986 - good June, poor July/August

 

Euros

2016- dullest June on record, ok July, decent August

2012- shockingly bad June/July, average August

2008- terrible summer, extremely bad August

2004- good June, poor July, decent August

2000- terrible June/July, average August

1996- good June, average July/August

1992- good June, poor July/August

1988- awful summer throughout

In London June was warm, wet and dull. July was slightly cooler than average, dry and dull. August was very warm, wet and dull.

Last summer was the most thundery summer in many a year here.

Early August produced some of the most impressive tropical style electric storms I've ever seen in my lifetime. Constant lightning for hours.

[Summer18]

In the latest tournaments 2018 was by far and away the best, hot throughout the tournament. 2014 was really good also and 2006 was hot. 2010 bit of a mixed bag.

2008 & 2012 we’re appealing throughout the tournament and 2004 & 2016 fairly unremarkable from memory.

2018 was brilliant, but even that at a cool weekend in between hot spells. I remember it feeling chilly on one saturday after weeks of 26-30c, when the temp dropped to 20-21c for a few days, and with a breeze it felt cold. But, in all fairness it was a welcome cool interlude. I also remember one day being windy by tbe beach in July, when Spain got knocked out by Russia during the penalty shoot out.

Yeah I think I remember that, we had a showery Saturday early on but that was pretty much the only time it rained in 4 weeks. I was in Cyprus by the end but it was still fantastic weather here!

The world cups of '06 and '18 were best 

The Euros of 12 and 08 were worst

 

Statistics show the Euros are dreadful compared to the World Cup.
