Huge display in Russia, Estonia, Lithuania, so Northern UK should be in line... whether we will see anything remains to be seen but should be resolved in the next hour

Im like that with the aurora, if you cant see it properly with the naked eye then it hardly counts..

Its on my bucket list to see and photograph the aurora Rob.....It will most likely be clouded out when we get the alert

I got too much smog and high cloud so if anything was there, below capellas hight, then it would be obscured anyway.

Complete darkness here, calling it a night, but with no fail, got some pics of the moon, moths, butterflies.

I'm not staying up all night, unfortunately.

Better luck next time.

Capella's at 10° and rising atm.....I`ve got a nice little gap between it and the smut level

I'm already thinking it will be a 2nd half display

Didn't stop up either, however I did wake up at 2.50am and looked out a few times before nodding back off around quarter to 4.  Though bog eyed nothing was visibly obvious.  Was there a pre-dawn show?  Aspect from my bedroom window is limited, don't see low enough towards the horizon.

Yeah it's late in the season now. Another week and it'll be done even for more northern parts.

Waited up till just before 4am, which was well into the pre-dawn twilight and can confirm that through my bog eyes and camera lens there was no display up till then...which to be honest I was half hoping for, due to the proximity and latitude of the display over Europe.....just another really close miss

This was on my mind when I viewed the Aim released that night for the 18th .... to which we`ve seen this formation quite a few time this year and keeps on giving Russia and Eastern Europe some spectacular displays ,, but seldom make it around to our twilight times

Just another close miss

Glad you told me Rob ....just had a look at that photo and it stirred a blurry memory

I saw that structure and thought it was some of the cloud left over from the previous days storms. It was way out to the SSE

I took a photo but never processed straight away....until now...Cheers Rob

Viewing previous years, theres a familiar pattern.

By mid July the evening displays for most of England have all but gone, but morning displays are still seen, and there are dramatic sightings over Northern Europe.

Which is what we could expect if only the roulette wheel of NLC`s falls kindly and puts one of these tentacles from the mass over us post Sunset

last seasons viewing in England finished in the first week of August, which was the latest on record

There`s an interesting article on the Spaceweather site, which will  keep me observant for another couple of weeks and will update on any developments

"NOCTILUCENT CLOUD UPDATE: Noctilucent cloud (NLC) season is now 8 weeks old. This animation from NASA's AIM spacecraft shows everything that has happened since the first clouds appeared in late May:"

nlc_season_strip_opt.thumb.gif.467aacb3f0566ddca53c43d13729d981.gif

The last frame says it all: Noctilucent clouds are still bright and abundant. In fact, at the highest latitudes they are setting records.

"We're seeing more clouds at 80°N than in any other year since AIM was launched," says Cora Randall of the University of Colorado's Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Research. "Cloud frequencies at 80°N are around 85%, whereas it's more typical to see frequencies of about 75%." ('Frequencies' are a measure of patchiness. 100% is complete coverage; 0% is no clouds at all.)

Just done a bit of work on what was observed on Wed morning just after 03.00 21-07-21, in relationship to what was seen on the relevant Aim

Firstly find out the time that the Aim image was taken

cips_sci_2_orbit_78105_2021-202_v05.20_r05_alb_prelim.preliminary21.thumb.png.e5fcb7b9a26a3af0562a5cf9f078723d.png

as you can see the orbit strip was recorded just after 10.00 in the morning

The NLC`s were recorded in the UK after 03.00, which is 17 hrs later, which needs to be adjusted for

17 hrs travel = 8 1/2 mins on the clock face

current_daisy21ju.thumb.png.d3918d6cb3d2bba6c7102e6177851d1d.png

What was observed was a low solid display way out to the NNE

3417.thumb.JPG.8ceb437e8c36370e4d202031daa3e9b6.JPG

This matches what was recorded on the Aim
