As the current anticyclonic area over the UK & Ireland moves more towards E, there will be new chances for Atlantic storms.

From the latest WRF, a cyclone could reach the Hebrides late Tue, with possible 60-70+mph gusts. Notice how the isobars are very tight, indicating strong winds.

Great visibility yesterday - had a walk round the group of hills on the north side of Glen Artney, west of Comrie. Stuc a’ Chroin and Ben Vorlich looking quite alpine, particularly the peak of Ben Vorlich with its snow cornices.

This is the third gloriously sunny day in a row, which is a fine way to raise the spirits. Crisp, frosty starts too, so all is good.

High temperature was 8.8⁰C at 13:06 up from a low of -2.9⁰C at 07:20 and now 8.2⁰C after a sudden drop, humidity is 60%, wind 0 to 5mph southerly with a maximum gust of 5mph at 12:21, pressure is 1032.9hPa falling slowly from a maximum of 1034.4hPa at 09:33, there’s been 0.2mm of ‘rain’ recorded today but I think that must have been melting frost, cloud cover is 1/8 and the dew point is at 2⁰C.

A gorgeous afternoon for a walk here again today and feeling a lot warmer than the actual air temp of 6.5C. A nice frost again earlier with the same min as yesterday morning. -1.1C. Just a couple of small fair weather clouds around, otherwise full on sunshine and virtually no breeze.

Really nice in Aviemore too, made for a great walk with the dogs this morning.

-3c start here but fabulous blue skies with mostly light wind. Getting lots of outside jobs done  without getting soaked or chilled with high winds. Even the mud is vastly reduced. Grass no longer green but purple tipped with the frosty nights reinforcing my thoughts that March is the hungriest month of the year on the farm and still a beliver in astrological winter dates.  Horse hay sales doing well so all good.  "Its an ill wind that blows no good to anyone".

Well we had a jolly day out on Beinn Enaiglair today, plenty of snow at altitude. (Some old timers may remember some very snowy pics from up here from 10 years ago.)  It was just freezing at the top, all the snow was nice and firm to walk on without being glazed and there was hardly a soul on the hills. (Ben Wyvis carpark was only about half full - it was a glorious Sunday, where was everyone?) 

 An Teallach through a gap

  Beinn Dearg looking like the beast of a mountain it is - hard to get the scale from this photo but it is huge and a daunting prospect at any time of year but especially in winter. I was up there a long time ago in March, we went up from the west ok, but the descent down the east was hairy as something pretty hairy. An Teallach is in a different league though!

  Fannaichs in full winter mode still - it would have been good up there today!

  and some rime on the summit cairn.

And, just like that... the cyclone is now forecasted (WRF 12z) to pass over the open atlantic.

Stark differences between the two runs, but that's how it goes. Better continue monitoring this.

Lovely three days of sunshine, long may it continue!

Very frosty overnight and I do wonder if it was colder than the winter for here as the weather station got down to -6.1c (definitely the coldest night of the spring!).

The height of the sun at this time of year is now very telling as its 7.1c outside (and 24c in the greenhouse).

A steady southerly breeze with just a few high altitude clouds occasionally making the sunshine hazy.

Cold start this morning at -0.5c which I think is the second coldest reading of 2022 here. -3c the low at Leuchars. As others have said three fine sunny days and I too could get used to it!

From the latest WRF it seems that the cyclone centre will steer clear of the Hebrides, as its strongest winds will remain over the ocean. 

However, 60+mph gusts are possible over the more exposed W locations, as the third map shows. Winds will be mostly from the S quadrants.

Bright, sunny, chilly and a stiff southerly breeze this morning that is really taking the edge off any desire to get on in the garden.

The wind may be coming from the SSE but it feels more like its a Northerly in January.

Very strong and feeling bitterly cold in it, a real contrast to the previous three days.

Fleeting glimpses of the sun, otherwise grey and 4.8c currently - dry though which is something.

As above, the earlier cloud has cleared to leave some lovely sunshine but the wind is pretty brutal! I've retreated back inside to do something else.

WRF 00z verification where the satellite image @ 14GMT has been manually superimposed on the synoptic chart for the same time.

Good spatial localisation of the centre of the cyclone currently near the UK and Ireland. Central pressure seems to be 2-3 hPa lower than reality.

Had been mostly dry and sunny today although breezy cloud has now increased

Started off at 0c with hard frost near woods or shade and then became one of those difficult days for outside work with some ferocious gusts on a gale force southerly wind off the Cairngorms with bright blue skies .Even the postie was amazed at the strength  of the wind  up here  after leaving Nairn in fairly calm conditions. Blizzards of dust were being lifted off the farm tracks and there were dust storms off the fields near Elgin this afternoon.Wind went down a bit in early evening but has risen again howling round the house now. What a winter for wind ever since Arwen.Currently 6c

That's the March spring done then. We have a pretty wet afternoon, as does most of the country apart from the east - so far!
