Was sat up at the devil's dyke Inn just north of hove watching this come in over a nice pint of Guinness.

Must have had a lovely view! I really should try and make it out more when it is going to be stormy! That's on my way home from work 🤣

Typical, missed the one big fork right in front of me by about a second and then all of my attempts afterwards just happened to be hiding or over exposed due to the rain so I only capture the last bit of the strike 🤣😭

Currently just rain and gusty winds here in Central London.   Much needed rainfall I guess.

Has to be that. Even France and Benelux by their standards have had very little activity compared to other years, where they usually see a massive MCC or MCS’s drifting up from the Pyrenees.
I can’t help thinking we may get a more stormy September given how warm the BoB and surrounding seas will be as we kick off autumn. There must be some extra heat retained given how hot and rainless it’s been.
Also to add, most of the Mediterranean is at or above 27-28c!! With a few spots near 30! That’s more than enough to sustain a powerful hurricane, so it’ll be interesting if we see a Medicane form. I’m also expecting a very strong and perhaps catastrophic Valencian monsoon in autumn other wise known as the Gota Fria.

You wasn't far off wrong was you 😄

Just managed to catch this roll-cloud / shelf-type feature illuminated by lightning. Almost looks like a tornado.

Window now really getting up too!!

I'm surprised it has made it inland, it's easing down now. But I have seen lightning earlier today, and tonight.

4th day with lightning and a 3rd day with a shelf cloud, what is going on! Also 5 out of the 4 lightning events have been at night.

well that squall was quite pathetic, I did hear some loud-ish thunder in the distance but only a couple of times and when the squall came through, the winds were no different then an average winter atlantic storm. Oh well it's nice to hear the rain outside.

Had a good downpour just a moment ago. A nice drop of rain today, really topped the pond up!

The storm early evening was an added bonus.

Lightning has petered off here now.

EDIT - bright flash just now 🤷‍♂️ But has been several minutes since the last one. And a few more.

It's the best viewpoint I go to buddy, it's always my first port of call when I go out because the visuals are good for 30-40miles and I can see what direction the storms are moving and how things are developing in the channel. That gives me time to plan my move and try to get under the worst areas. I'd highly recommend you check it out if you pass nearby, I've scoped out and know many spots and this one's my go too for imports 100 percent.

Meh. The only word… mehhhhhhhh

Agreed, right from the beginning (last Saturday) ...totally underwhelmed, no storms, other than 2 faint rumbles yesterday...but happy for the lucky folk who have had a storm (or multiple ones!). Great pics everyone! Can ijust  add my only pic, captured yesterday of a classic shelf formation overhead... 🙄

the third thunderstorm this month, including two in the second-half of august. not anything notable i suppose-but it makes for the thunderiest spell i’ve experienced in quite a while. also it’s the third night in a row with a spell of lengthy heavy rain. the dry spell is but a distant memory now, especially with further unsettled weather forecast. just perfect after such a dry spell.
