Hello all, I am the visually impaired poster that has posted a few times on here. I was curious what was the synoptic and mesoscale environment behind the severe thunderstorms in southeast England in the early morning hours of July 28 2014? I am aware that the storms from the 17th through the 19th of July were caused by a Spanish plume setup, however, unsure about 28th July setup as I can’t find any convective outlooks for that day. Brighton was particularly badly hit, with frequent lightning, flooding rain and small hail.

Could contain: Chart, Plot, Map, Nature, Outdoors, Plant, Rainforest, Vegetation, Atlas, Diagram

Based on that chart it looks like to me low pressure moving south and clashing with the warmer air further south.

Could contain: Chart, Plot, Map, Atlas, Diagram, Person, Head

FAX chart has various troughs and fronts over the UK

Interesting! I’m guessing these storms were mostly elevated? Did they move north from France?
