Just grabbed this IR image of Lee, the eye is stunning.

RGB true colour image shortly before sunset, truly stunning. 3rd major hurricane of the season.

No threat for direct impact to land for now, but always the possibility it may landfall somewhere.

What an absolute beast.

IR is as classic as you can get for an extremely upper end hurricane, likely will be a cat 5 by morning (I suspect it already is)

A beautiful yet incredibly dangerous storm, let's hope it begins its northwards curve soon.

I can only imagine what the eye must look like from the surface.

A hurricane hunter flight is inbound and will likely find 157 mph+ winds at the surface.

I think that stuff to her east will be Margaret, do youean that bit just below her, does look like something else building, doesn't it.

It was the area that is now Tropical Storm Margot. When I grabbed the screenshot of her and Lee together, she was just a "tropical disturbance".That was about noon Thurs, BST. I got the IR at the same time, couldn't find it when I was posting above, and the area was already showing a centre of rotation and nice little arms spiraling outwards from the centre. I'm wondering if Lee will churn upthe ocean enough to bring cooler waters to the surface and slow down Margot's development. One of the models was predicting 70-90 foot waves with Lee. This morning, I noticed one of the recon flight wind speed data points was 181mph, central pressure was 926mb for Lee. I think one of the models was predicting the pressure bottoming out at around 913mb eventually. Another suggested Lee could go sub 900mb. With Lee up to no good and Margot currently traversing the waters that Lee recently "badgered", I am clueless as to what Margot will do. Her winds have stayed at 40mph since she was declared a tropical stormand if anything the IR looks a tad less organised today, but I grabbed a visiblewith IR overlay and the convection near the centre is rather active when seen with the shadows from the morning sun.

I have a suspicion that the "star" in the centre of the eye is actually Jupiter

Wouldn't surprise me, she's very bright at the moment.

OK, I freely admit I'm a rank amateur and I get stuff utterly confused very often. I wasperusingthe latest data from the HurricaneHunter mission into Lee and I decidedto look at the data from a particular dropsonde. The bit bugging meis the line highlighted in yellow. It states
"884 mb Surface (sea level)"
Is that saying what I think it's saying? 😮

I think so, but it's awaiting correction through other means. Guess we'll see later.

You seen what's just come off land, exiting west, currently SW of Cabo Verde and Margot? Signs of organisiation/rotation already on visible image.

Wow looks like yet another one. What a year, let's see what this system does. I expect it'll be an invest soon if not already.

Hurricane Lee where  the pressure is up to 940 mb this morning, and the wind is down some.  Lee is no longer a cat 5.

The NHC mentioned  some possible SW shear. (Picked up from US Forums, latest info)

Lee has weakened, but seems to still have an incredibly strong core. Once the shear abates rapid intensification is very likely.

Starting to look a little concerning for New England, although the majority of models still take Lee up to Nova Scotia.
