Wow an absolute massive flas and huge rumble just hit. Now heavy rain. That flash wasn’t half bright

Massive lightning & very deep thunder rumbles here currently

 

Not seen it forecast and wondered what the hell it was at first until a huge flash of purple lightning lit the whole sky up...

 

We can see Winter Hill from our house, upstairs and it keeps appearing/disappearing in the cloud

Is this a front for some heavy hail coming in etc? That's what causes most storms and with it being colder etc...

You’ll struggle to sustain lightning over land in December. Zero surface heating. Any lightning is usually associated with maritime influence so the further away from the sea it gets, the less likely lightning is.
