Is that low pressure intending to come right over us.  Radar suggests its centre is just south of the IOM at present.   Barometer watching time.

Clouds dropped on fells here but under the gloom bright yellow light still visible southwards towards Cheshire .

OK here we go -- proper rain now and deep gloom.  Been spots only for last hour.

Pressure still falling.

BBC forecast shows a wet streamer from WNW overnight.

7ºC here; colder & drier this morning which allowed me to give both cars a contactless wash and clean inside before my op on Wednesday renders me useless for a good few weeks

It's lashing it down now here; gone black and just dropped!

Skeins of geese have been flying over east to west in last 2 or 3 days.  A bit later than usual.  Making for the Lancs arable fields and shores.  Presumably their feeding grounds somewhere  east of here are exhausted.   More going over right now.

We  always regard this activity as a sign of a change to colder weather.  The scandi high and its cold block does seem to be settling in according to Met O fax.

Was thinking about how dry the region was by the first week of June, plants, vegetation looked distressed and the soil was cracking.  I think some places still had to wait a little longer for rain even when the thunderstorms arrived around the 10th.  Any talk of possible drought conditions stopped dead in its tracks since then, a wet fest till year end.

Skein. Yes! not heard that in a while. Quite a few fly over us here at Salwick. Noisy Blighters. Feed in the freshwater fields away from the coast.

Better sort of day today-didn't get wet! Temps topped out at about 6.8C, 6.2 now. Rained hard in the night, no values sorry forgot to leave out a random bucket.-checked the river Dane earlier today though, flows up and rising by the look of things so no fishing yet!  Huge excitement in model land-could it be that the pattern is actually going to change?

Happy New year all when it comes-here's hoping for colder, frostier, drier, brighter weather and possibly some snow.

Heavy showers are coming more from a westerly direction now, so SW wind shield has been breached and they'll no doubt pile in from now until 2024!!...thankfully not a full year to wait.

The models will produce lots of drama from now until next week... but it will get a little colder...that's as far as I'm throwing my hat.  BBC forecast seems to indicate Cold and Dry...that'll do...that'll do.

The weather later this evening has somewhat scuppered my plans to head out to Werneth Low and catch the midnight fireworks across the city, trying to do a night timelapse in rain, gales, low cloud, would pretty much be a fruitless endeavour. Same for heading up Mam Tor in the morning for nothing more than a overcast sunrise.

Hopefully 2024 brings better weather our way, with plenty of High Pressure into Winter and LP/Trough systems in Spring & Summer for some good thunderstorm action once again.
