I grew up in the Spey (Dulnain) valley, so am pretty well practiced in teuchter, which is quite similar to Doric, ergo I can generally understand the latter, but not use it other than 'fit like'!

We managed to get another shower overnight, it must have been that shower at 1am that was mentioned earlier. That has at least meant the ice rink has a bit more grip with the dusting on top!

 

Looking at the charts tomorrow still show differences in the positioning of the front coming in, UKV and aperge have 2 systems moving in with snow to start but rain on the back edge/low ground for western coasts. ECM has a widespread 2-5cm, GFS we hit the jackpot here but more of a chance of sleet/rain for low ground. Icon has a period of heavy snow western central belt and south but only just on the edge here... There is definitely still the risk of warmer air bringing a slushfest for the central belt south (and western coasts) so it looks like it'll be a nowcast situation tomorrow as this still isn't nailed at just 24 hours out!

ICON / EC / GFS / UKV - all have variation with timing and intensity of the low passing through, case of wait and see what it does tomorrow !

About 7cm in Aboyne and schools closed today so kids will have some fun on boogieboards on nearby hill after home schooling.

Looks like reasonable chance of something decent away from the coast and with a bit elevation at least for here the wind is coming from the NW so should help us for a change. Well fingers crossed

I work in BOD and the roads are horrendous round here!l this morning. Nice to see the sun out though making it all Bright and wintery with the snow on the ground. 
 

nut sure how much more will fall today, as the big yin said sporadic showers likely to pop up.

Snowmageddon here... well, the sprinkling has mounted up considerably overnight to a... covering. -2.5C now and just a gentle breeze, can't tell the direction though. 

Nothing in the forecast suggests much till tomorrow and even then the *no* may swerve south, or east, or north, or west.

A brighter and calmer day so far. Absolute doddle clearing the drive and paths as the snow is powder and super light. Local farmer made short work of the road although a gritter is required. With the snow in place, you'd fancy the lowest temperature of winter so far to be set over the coming days.

Crisp, clear morning in Motherwell.  Hoping for a 2010 style event tomorrow, expecting a regular one however given we just don't seem to get much luck with these......

Farmer has ploughed the road and the council gritter has been past too, so I might to down to Alford in a bit to try out the new all-season tyres on the car. I need to go to the post office anyway.

Bright sunny start to proceedings after a wild night. Currently minus 4.3C windchill was -8 at some stage in the night, as others have said hard to judge depth with all the drifting but I reckon 14-16cm. Large fluffy flakes falling again but winds have dropped away. Lane only passable with 4x4.

Ben Wyvis takes most of our showers on a NW wind so we only have a couple of centimetres. penetrating frost with a strong wind and -2c. Real arctic sky with  all the intense colours. Much dryer air too so steading dry and cattle and me  breathing easier . A lot of sublimation going on with this very cold drying wind. 

Another load of wood barrowed over so we can keep the log burner going Most of the neighbours lighting theirs just now judging by  the smoke from chimmines

Just looking at extended forecast for next week on here for our area and it did not seem very mild with ground frosts at least at night, Just read John Holmes post on model thread there he was saying we would have cold westerlies next week.  Linked to that   the cold of this week will be helping to cool seas to their lowest levels in winter so less moderation for these cool westerlies On that basis ground over a thousand feet will keep any fresh snow we get this week. Old fashioned mid winter period with only low ground thawing a bit.

Car in for it's MOT the morn. Decided to take it today and leave it with them to be on the safe side. Not sure I'll get out in the morning - have to wait for the farmer and his plough to pass on our wee lane.

Was under a streamer for a while there; whiteoot chucking it down and blowing around wildly.

Wyvis has a lot to answer for. We should report it to the International Court of Chionophilia Rights. Or some such.
