Iceaxecrampon Yeah, I was thinking last night that there could be an awful lot of people wondering why on earth all the schools are shut! I totally get why they made the call given the amber warning, and could still come to fruition, but looking more wet than white at the moment.

severe snowstorm Schools closed in anticipation of heavy snow & an Amber warning in NE Wales too - MO will face a lot of slack if it turns out to be a bit of heavy sleety rain for the majority especially with the likes of Saltney, Connahs Quay & Deeside on the Cheshire West/ Flintshire border seeing their schools closed when they might just see sleet or rain at their elevation. It also dents confidence in the MO so when a big snowfall/ storm etc... happens Joe Public takes no notice.

Give it time. Surface is just a bit more marginal than expected yesterday evening

Joe Snow Yes, there will be a bit of a backlash if there is little or no snow. I have a lot of sympathy for the metoffice, they were absolutely right to issue the amber warning, but things did downgrade yesterday evening on the models unfortunately. Things could still change, but there have been intense echoes over North Wales for some time now, so the lack of reports in the Welsh thread is probably not a good sign.

Raining here.  Metoffice showing heavy snow, accuweather showing rain. Normally the other way round

Radar is very misleading, much of Cumbria shown as pink last hour, and some green in terms of precipitation rate, yet its bone dry so far..

It is looking more marginal than expected. I don't know whether the atmosphere profile is different than model or the surface is warmer than expected, or the positive 850s are further north quicker than expected or what but I did expect more snow reports by now.

cheshire snow indeed. I'm at 420 feet here in the Castlereagh hills and have gone from 36 hours of snow to 100% rain.

The precipitation has arrived early here and it's all rain.
