A few snow showers earlier on has left about 1cm on the ground.

Debatable that it will be all there in the morning as surprised to see temperature has risen over the last few hours from -1.3c at 5pm to 2c now, with a definite thaw on the roof.  Stiff easterly wind as well encouraging the dog to do it's business quicker than usual!

Heading back to my hometown of Nairn for a long weekend later today. Looks like we will escape a fairly bleak weekend of weather here in Aberdeenshire. Looking forward to some bracing runs and walks along Nairn seafront and surrounding areas.

It’s a foul morning. Easterly wind just short of gale force, driving rain, 4c.☹️

Currently 0.8C, dewpoint -0.7C, with a covering of what looks like quite wet snow from overnight showers. Heavier stuff still being forecast to move in later today, and for now at least the radar is saying we are, being far enough inland, in the snow zone rather than rain or sleet.

About an inch of fresh stuff overnight with some blustery snow showers coming in this morning, traveling a fair stretch over land to reach us on a direct easterly

1C and dry for now. Typical miserable grey straight easterly day with the heat being sucked out of the house.

Miserable here this morning. Very strong ESE wind bringing in bursts of rain and sleet. Cold at 1.4C. Crucially though wet bulb is 0.6C so our covering of snow from last night has gone.
Btw thank you for the calculator @Hawesy

Slushfest out there with the remaining snow from yesterday evening slowly fading away.

1.3c with a strong East wind blowing in pulses of rain/sleet.

Grumpy kids as a result, no snow to play in and too wet to go out.  Perfectly timed midterm break 🙄

Frequently used to use this weekend to go skiing, usually over to Nevis Range as its not a day trip from here. Not managed that for a few years though.

Still definitely snow that's falling here but struggling to accumulate much as it's marginal temperature wise. I suspect our extra height is making the difference l, and that in Alford itself it's more likely to be a sleety mess.

Occasional short spells of snow blowing through but surprisingly dry so far - pretty miserable though with existing snow cover just about hanging on.

Snow line retreated to 300m+ now - after last night's whopping 3cms, but it's still snowing. Not enough left at 9am to make this the seventh official snow day of the season at shuggee towers, but it was the 32nd air frost at -0.1C (so only just) in an easterly gale.

All our lying snow has now gone. The last bits vanished really quickly and without melting, just disappeared into the air.

<snow fetish alert> It was fascinating watching the snow ablate - it didn't melt into blobby lumps, it held its crystal structure all the time, just shrinking away. I don't see this often just here.

There were tiny hints of more here but it quickly disappeared and another disappointing event snow-wise.  Looks like yet another dismal winter.

  • April 2024 - Was it that cold overall? A look at the statistics

General perception from many is that April was a cold month, but statistics would suggest otherwise, with the average temperature for the whole month coming in just above the 30 year average for the UK as a whole.
