Cell popped up by Worcester, extremely fast to get to 120mm+ rainfall rate, think its time to go to the top of a hill with this laptop!
-
Joey,Joey..but look at the storms north they look nasty...
I just have to sit and wait for a car, that wont be until gone 6pm
last time i saw this amount of red x's was two yrs ago I think in the Southj East..or am I wrong
Ive learnt my lesson, if I go driving up there ill be storm chasing.... chasing them all away lol, then Crimson Sprite will probably either kill me or explode
-
thats got to be the best red x areas Ive seen for two yrs.....and im very peeeeeved
going to jump in the car later around 5
Yarr Keeping an eye on that bunch south of us., creeping our way ever so slowly
-
It does seem that way.
Plenty of insolation to build CAPE through the afternoon ready for a beast in the evening.... maybe
-
Wow radar looks a mess! All this is mostly going to circle around since the low is centered over the SW. Where would be the best spot today for a chase? The East is usually better for electrics and photogenic storms but tis a bit far away today..
-
Anyone in Llandudno in North Wales? Seems theres been a tiny cell just off the coast there that has barely moved in the past hour and registered a few sferics..
-
Little video i took earlier. Quick flash and some lovely thunder from 1min 30 .
Nice preview of whats heading our way tomorrow then
-
Got some heavy showers just about to move in here.
Not as humid as yesterday , So i doubt there will be any thunderz
Just been on top of Robinswood Hill watching it make its way up the Severn, no thunderz Looked pretty sweet for a while, got some panoramas and a bit of a timelapse
Now raining moderately here, still feel like were in the firing line if anything gets its act together over Devon
-
Not a lot happening down here in the SW. Those showers are not getting going, if anything theyre less 'intense' than they have been. Looks like the trough is not moving in as it was expected to do?
If I didnt have radar id be getting a little excited though, this is the view from the tip top of the tree in my garden
Hope something develops this afternoon
Edit: Dont get your BBQ on yet Pat

Some awesome skies about today with all the elevated thundery cloud. Still hoping for something for this area though all the action is further north currently with some serious looking radar returns in the wake of that beauty heading out to sea.
Doubt here will see anything that may develop along that trough as it looks on Sat24 like the band is starting to push East and our end of the CF aint too exciting either atm. I would be surprised if that was it for everywhere tonight, but I would be more suprised if we got something here in Glos!
-
Have been sat on a hill for the past 30 mins looking North toward Birmingham area, thought it looked interesting! Sudden intensification on radar. Ive just got a nice view of a long line of congestus feeding into the back of it. Looks like its all past here now

Impressive panoramic pic of the supercell. IN ENGLAND?? If Paul were still running the pic of the month competition, I'm 100% sure that image alone would have won hands down. (Pic of the YEAR even!)
 Impressive vid from Weather 09. Thanks for sharing mate. Now as for the streak that appears at around 30 seconds... Definitely NOT a bird, (unless it was flying through it and left a natural chemtrail of its own) So that cancels that theory out.
I had initially thought about it being a car or motorcycle lamp reflection on the camera lens, but that wouldn't explain why it disappears above the scud, so that cancels that theory out too.
I'm not sure if it is ball lightning as during the research I've done, ball lightning tends to take a more jagged path and is usually slower than the vid suggests. So maybe cancels that theory out.
Only person who would probably be in the know would be Stuart from TORRO. (If he still posts on here?)
Who knows otherwise?
Phil.
Sorry to go OT again about this thing but just found this on YouTube, looks almost exactly the same as the Kent video one

Im a sceptic about little green men stormchasing but I shure would like to know what this is!
-
That's bizzare, it acts like meteorite, quick, short and leaves a small tail. Odd!
Thats what I thought...
-
About turn then, Should listen to my own rule, never head North! lol. Hope next time I stop things are still following a similar pattern
-
Sat under that shower between Birmingham and Nottingham on the radar, cant decide what to do! I would go sit on the A46 between Leicester & Newark on Trent to wait and see what develops this afternoon but now the Southern half of the UK looking better, especially looking at that little line of storms just off the coast of NW France now, heading IOW way by the look of it. Is the NE now not so favoured or are there promising signs over the London area of things sparking off for further North later?
-
So am I right in thinking the best chances for a chase tomorrow would be from Midlands to NE England as the trough moves through? MetO pressure charts have the trough still off the SW coast at 1200 and up in Scotland by 0000, guessing then that hopefully it will pass though the midlands in the late afternoon, although fairly swiftly. Might aim to get to Nottingham for 1pm & see how things develop. Any advice would be appreciated!

FERRIES GOT DOWN TO £60.00 FOR 3 DAYS
B&B AVERAGE FROM 40 EURO'S TO 60 RIGHT ACROSS FRANCE
better still fancy camping..lol
2 days notice you can get the chunnel from £44 return per car off peak times, twas very quick and hassle free (we got one ~8pm)
Stayed in a basic hostel in Calais for (I think) 65 Euros for a three person room. We camped in the Alps for as little as 20 euros a night for 3 people (one big tent) inclusive of electric but I dont know how common campsites are out of the Alps, probably still very common!
Other things to remember are the things you gotta have for driving on French roads: Warning triangle, replacement bulb set, reflective jackets, headlamp converters if you need them and also remember some of the main roads are toll roads.
Ive got a good atlas already and could borrow my friends walkie talkies and I would definitely be up for a trip to see this again.....

We always miss out
Ive literally just got back from France after a holiday there, drove the 1,261km back from Menton in the south to Calais over the past two days and missed everything! Couldnt detour for a chase so just saw a few nice Cbs in the distance and suffered the 36+ degree heat. The way down was better last week though

Well, tonight I will be sitting on the beach at Hythe eating fish and chips as the sun goes down. Probably as good as anywhere for catching a distant flash of lightning??
Also as a bonus I will have the fishing rods in the car just in case the mackerel are in and the storms are not overhead!!
Tonight ill be getting the ferry and staying in Calais for the first part of a week long break in France. Actually cant wait! So much CAPE progged there for tomorrow
-
No storms for the UK then Good job ill be in France on saturday under that pink dot of 2500j/kg CAPE and -6LI!
-
Though having looked at Sat24, there look like some monster storms going up over France and Spain at the moment - lots of clusters and spreading anvils, quite an impressive radar picture.
I was just looking at that, loads of towers mushrooming up and anviling out all over Spain & Portugal. One week till im in the South of France with a car
-
Nice to see the potential so close to home! My only day off is Thursday so thought I could rule out tomorrow as a chase day, but since I dont start till 5pm and Ian has said things may kick off earlier rather than later, Its ON!
Fuel in tank, batteries charged, should prob go to sleep Thundery dreams all x
-
still some nice convection here with anvils around....maybe another storm later
Gloucestershire's revenge?.
Argh! Gutted, have been at work since 11am, just got back and looked at the radar for the day. What a catch 22. Gotta work to have a car, cant chase if your at work!
Im pleased for us Gloucestershire peeps though; Lynxus, Dogs, especially Jane Louise!
Heres to a good year, and if not then im off to France for the first two weeks of July anyway.
-
Right im off for a drive, intercept the cells nr Hereford. Just a short hop up the M5. Its not 400 miles away so I wont cry if they fizzle! Hope I bring back some photos for yall.

U guys in Glos/Chelt get much of that? I caught up to the Worcester cell as it was dying, since then been driving in circles around Worcs & Glos, saw a few cg's, though not many at all considering how badass the storm started to look at one point. Still got some nice pics tho, successful chase unfortunately managed to accidently delete all the pics of all then funnels and tornados
