  1. I belive the vitriol spewed onto people who are dissenters of the CO2 anthropomorphic global warming theory is a totally strange taboo and hugely wrong.Pierce Corbyn[the famous advocate for non a.g.w. and his statistically minor meteorological methods] is treated in some of these forums as a complete joke and things well below the belt are said. His theories on how the weather works are worthy of investigation of anybody who cares and is ignorant of them ,and I do mean investigate - thoroughly- so people can make informed choices.I believe a lot of people who have not bothered to investigate his scientific methods pre judge him and say awful things. I have decided to question A.G.W. and do a lot of investigating in order to make my own mind and not develop neurosis on the subject.Any thoughts ,whatever ,just leave them ,cheers.
  2. me too about the temperature ,I'm a top guess. Could that be because the snow is lighter and can thus travel on the breeze further.I too have noticed this.
  3. I would agree to that statement to a certain degre but I do think some peoples fascination witht hese extreme weather events is not meteorological. I beleive people simply like spectacle and also I feel peoplel know and feel there is a connection to nature not present in most of our lives but accessable through weather..This phonomenal none and or meteorologal obsession with stereotypical winter weather[snow esp] seems present more.I think maybe this could be to do with the fact that the spectacle of a winter wonderland is one of the extreme ones .Personally my 'obsession' started with the spectacle of weather as a child and has progressed as to the why's of the weather but still that spectacle of weather ,aethstically or generally sensorally is very much stil present .This ultimately drove my curiosity as to why weather happens and ultimatley /physics/astro physics.
  4. An average winter produces cold spells interspersed usually with milder interludes .Even in the mildest of winters it has snowed in my neck of the woods.I can not remember one winter when snow did not at least fall and frost was not present.Admittedly I can only speak for my area.
  5. Well, hopefully ,if I survive the next 50 years worth of winters i'll be old and i may develop a neccessary penchent for the elderly gentleman .
  6. Yes the snow becomes compacted and eventually just turns to ice at the lower levels .This ,as we know , is how a glacier are formed.
  7. bit of an ....er mistake .For the record i am not sexually interested in the elderly.....yet..I meant to say maybe im an evil person who hates the elderly[which i am also not]... well, with that trench truly dug i shall depart.
  8. Yes ,it is odd I agree,Obsessions are by their nature odd.I live in a flat in south manchester without warm water and central heating ,i also live below the poverty line [being an artist has its hardships] yet I love the cold weather.I think ,cvertainly for me ,the reason I like it so much is that it changes the appearance of the lanscape so completely.Yes,people die in cold snaps, people also do not.I for one when it is cold and particularily snowy and or icy under foot go out of my way to lookafter and help people who may be in need.So ,yes ,people can suffer in extencded cold weather but ,what can I say ,I love cold and hope that it is so this winter.I must be an evil ,geronophile.
  9. oh ok,.thanks .in that case then i will guess ...dec 1.8, jan 4. and 4.7

  12. morning-clear,freezing fog, frost on everything. midday-cloud arrives wind picks up,fog disperses. afternoon-light snow, strong blustery wind. evening-blizzard,winds in excess of 30mph withy heavy ,drifting snow continuing untill12 the next day.
  13. 27 also in my part of manchester also.I have to say, though the late warmth is unexpected I do not find it amazing in the way I would find a shower of shetland ponies amazing.
  14. Sorry ,I failed to notice cheeky monkey that you have residence in Alberta......sorry again.
  15. Same in my neck of the woods though just lying snow.I would love to have a snow storm on the eve.
  16. What annoys me in scenarios similar to the forecast weather from the remnants of Katia is the purposeful bending of the truth by the media. The word 'Hurricane' is used in articles in substitution for 'remnants of -'.
  17. What is this hocus .You have a vivid imagination my friend.......though this scenrio would make me wet my pants in a none urinary fashion. What is this hocus .You have a vivid imagination my friend.......though this scenrio would make me wet my pants in a none urinary fashion.
  18. Watched a video on the site you have taken this image from it.The video shows really fast the snow and ice conditions through the summer from day to day. What was cool to watch was the rapid melt from mid july or so ,check it out.
  19. I have no knowledge of the data so consequently I have not a clue if the worlds temperature on average is increasing or the opposite. The weather where I am seems to have got cooler with next to no heatwave events in summer and longer cold spells in winter.].
  20. Yes,I would agree with that.I think topography certainly has a major impact on climate in general. In Europes case the fact that there is a lot of water around it I think makes for a general moderating effect.Europe sort of resembles [not aesthetically as such] America but on its side,ie, if you imagine America and Euraisia as a giant triangles, then America's point is obviously to the south but Europes point is to the west. With the prevailing winds west to east this,i think, has a huge impact on th ir respective climates.Obviously there are many, many other factors that make up these two places climates. I am no expert as may be obvious and I would certainly welcome any comments on the above statement.
  21. Does anybody know of any good web sites which go in to detail about the driving mechanisms which dictate the north american continental weathr.I know very little about the drivers and would like to learn more as the weather in the north america, canada etc is ....well interesting, thankyou.
