Even a dusting of snow here.

We tried to get out and have a look but too cloudy/misty here. Opened a bottle of wine now so no more hunting for us tonight.

Glorious wall to wall sunshine here. Beautiful start to winter, certainly makes up for the horrendous autumn.

Beautiful crisp clear winters day. The Arrochar alps and the Argyll hills looking resplendent in the low sunshine.

Having already lived somewhere that wasn’t the most ideal for wintry conditions (Glasgow), now having moved to the mouth of the Clyde I’m arguably in an even less favourable place! Don’t think it’s as bad as the Ayrshire coast and we’ll likely catch a bit off the Argyll side, and we should get a nice view of the snow capped mountains too. They are my hopes for the winter.

Anybody else finding it mega windy right now?
Very much so. Wild here. Even current observations seem to be underplaying it. Like @101_North I’m a bit surprised we haven’t had advanced notice of this.

That may just be from steam heating pipes underground.

Wee bit of snow on the Arrochar Alps today.

Rain has set in now around The Forth
It’s the most dry, calm and still day here in the west, crazy to think such a band of rain around 60 miles away.

Be careful at that seafront will you?

Some really quite heavy rain here this afternoon.

Yep. A severe flood warning is set to be put in place imminently
According to BBC, SEPA will decide this afternoon if evacuations are required.

Actually not so fast, SEPA are saying they’ll decide this afternoon if evacuations are required. Sky possibly getting ahead of themselves here, how unlike them.

Apparently people in Brechin are being asked to evacuate?

pretty wet out there at the moment but just seems like a typical storm to me
That’s why the warnings are for North eastern Scotland and not Kent.

Very blustery in Greenock just now, less so in Gourock. Seems exposure to the east is going to be important as this storm blows through.

‘The boy who cried wolf’ comes to mind. Do we really need yet another yellow for heavy rain? Is this not just another bog standard autumnal low pressure system for England?
This is a very ignorant post. The recent amber warning affecting parts of *Scotland* for heavy rain was absolutely warranted.

I don’t have an issue with the named storm idea in principle, the problem I believe is how it gets reported by the media. Part of the UK may be getting affected by a named storm, say southern England, and the media reports that ‘UK braces for Storm Nigel’ or whatever, people elsewhere in the UK think this storm will affect them when it doesn’t. There’s no clarity on which part of the UK is being affected.
Perhaps if the reporting was clearer to refer to the specific areas affected, it would be less likely to lead to people losing faith in the naming system itself.

Going to be quite mild and wet leading into winter according to the predictions. Just accept it now and it won’t feel so bad when it happens.

Some of the flooding in Gourock had cleared up by afternoon but from what I gather parts of Upper Greenock were still affected for most of the day. The main road from Greenock to Gourock I think was shut for most of the day as well. Parts of the front in Gourock have been damaged too.

Inverclyde is just a flooded mess. Most main roads are closed or only passable with care. Any roads with a slope have water cascading down them from the hills to the back of Gourock and Greenock. Proper flash flooding in places and I expect there will be damage to roads and properties when it clears up.

Yeah can confirm it’s heavy and persistent here alright. We’re on the edge of the amber warning area.

So just how much are we expecting tomorrow?
Already absolutely bucketing here and persistent too.

Yet *another* warning out for rain here for Saturday into Sunday. Incredible stuff.

Anybody getting downbeat by the loss of snow today please remember that being part of an island next to the NE sector of the Atlantic, with associated SW winds and currents, it’s very unlikely for us to have consistent snow or wintry spells. We need to take what we can get (unless you’re in the central highlands), and let’s be honest, it’s this scarcity that makes it a topic worth discussing on this forum. Otherwise nobody would be bothered when the snow came, it’d just be normal.
