This is one of the best vids I’ve seen of that same one so far. A real crazy storm.
My video did it no justice at all. Watched it from our balcony at about 3am. Spectacular…

Another snippet of a storm earlier in the week. This is the storm that battered Menorca before moving East toward Corsica…

There’s going to be some big time storms in the Med this autumn, starting in September I would say. Sea temps are still touching 29-30c in places near the Balearics! Wish I was heading to Majorca or somewhere this year, but unfortunately not! At least we have the cams there I suppose!
We recently got back from Majorca and it was hot hot hot!!! Banging storm last Thursday there. Huge hail after heavy rain. Cracking!!!

I have to say the start of last nights chase was quite stressful. Numerous road closures meant i found it a struggle to get to the south coast, but in the end i did. Ironically I could have just stayed where I was in Cambridgeshire/Essex, I'd have got quite a showing anyway.
My plan to end up in Hastings/Eastbourne changed last minute and I ended up in Worthing as storms looked to be further west than anticipated. It looked at that time like the strongest part of the activity was going to move right over me although I was not seeing much lightning at first.
As I was watching the storm move in the lightning activity increased but the heaviest stuff appeared to shift eastwards, hitting Brighton head on instead. Having said that there was still a thunderstorm over Worthing with quite a bit of lightning and plenty of rain. A couple of CGs observed out to sea, but none close to me. I could soon see frequent lightning flashes to my north and east though so I decided to move on.
My idea was to drive NE in the hope of getting ahead of the strongest part of the cell, easier said than done. It was moving fairly quickly and dumping a lot of rain. So I couldnt get ahead of it but I was under it, driving under biblical rain and frequent flashes of lightning. They were probably some of the most scary road conditions I have ever had to deal with. Lots of flooding that I was unable to see because of it both being dark and the rain being so heavy. By the time I reached Crowborough I decided to give up whilst I still had a car!
So now I am sat at Thurrock services contemplating a 3 hour drive home. At least this time I saw a decent storm. Only regrets, I wished I had been in Brighton.
I was really lucky here in Tonbridge. A 10 minute drive to a fantastic viewpoint at 5:30am. And it’s raining heavily too. Great fun

Good luck.
Unfortunately, we live in a studio flat, so no garden for growing anything or being self sufficient.
One thing we plan to do though, is eat just one meal a day starting from September 1st. No breakfast, which is easy since we started IF back in June, and usually manage until 12-1pm before we eat anything.
Could easily get to 7pm in the evening before our first meal, and probably stick to it until March or April next year.
We’re really lucky I know. Terrible you’re put in that situation though sunny

Bring it on. I've 3000lts of oil on order, a coal bunker that's overflowing and a log store full enough for two winters.
Colder the better
I’ve got about two ton of logs ready for winter. Aiming to keep the gas CH off and just wrap up warmer as well. Completely relagged the loft this spring to 300mm so I’ve got us in the best starting position. Going to top up food stores too. Currently could feed the five of us for a month or 6 weeks at a push even if it was the proverbial rice and beans. Planning to add to it as much as possible. Got a 10 square m home veg patch too that I completed this year but sadly was very late starting it off so really next year is when it’ll come into its own. Hedgerow foraging is something I’m big into so will be lots of jams and jellies from that, chestnuts and apples too hopefully. Trying to be much less reliant on others as far as possible. Grew up in the sticks on the North Downs in the 70s/80s and mum and dad taught us well. Fingers crossed

Usually, like any other year, I’d be gunning for a 1979,1987 or 1991 redux but I hope this year we avoid it as it’ll be misery for some. Odds are favourable for a mild winter anyway because, as we know, about a 1000 things have to fall in place just right to get proper cold here. Would settle for a mild winter of above average rainfall. We’ll see….

There's lightning in the channel off Dover elevated stuff
Very slow moving north though isn’t it. Mind you at least the jubilee concert has stayed dry. Would have been crap if it had lashed down

There was a gust of 82mph recorded earlier around Worthing Pier.
Went for a stroll along seafront, very hard to catch breath!
Anyone else noticed how dirty their windows are, especially coastal areas? Could it be salty sea spray has been blown in?
Yes we got that in Tonbridge!!!

not working today (self employed) on the back of this. Won’t be pleased if it turns out another overhype

MAD thread now elated again as it’s showing them what they want. What a bloody pantomime

After a good few years on here I’ve learnt to browse the MAD thread with an eternally large pinch of salt. I said it when I joined and I’ll say it again, the models, in my opinion, are as useful as reading tea leaves for all the good they are. They give a hint of the weather and that’s about as useful as they get, especially where cold weather is concerned!!!

Hope i'm wrong but next week is looking like a standard cool spell with temps just below avg IMBY.
The 'proper' wintry weather is being delayed day by day. The pattern looks promising for future cold weather though.
Always 10 days away…
I used to hang on every run when the charts looked good, the stress!!! Not any more. If it snows it snows
