1. Fantastic tool here for archives of ozone levels in the northern hemisphere back to 1970. 2. CH posted this image a couple of weeks ago either in this thread or the stratosphere thread. Since then it appears to have grown more intense. This must surely be related to volcanic activity on the sea bed.
Click here to go to the EMC/MMAB homepage
RTOFS (Atlantic) Graphic Nowcasts/Forecasts
Home Compare with Obs Data Assim Monitor (Internal) RTOFS & WOCE Graphics Viewer Data Access About the Model Choose a Region --------------------- Atlantic Ocean Western North Atlantic Zoom Gulf of Mexico Hurricane Sector Labrador Sea Run Date: (yyyymmdd or latest) archives for last 3 months Temperature Surface Height Mixed Layer Salinity Horizontal Current Vertical Velocity Depth (m): 0 100 200 500 700 1000 2000 3000 4000 Latest 1000m Temperature Forecast for 120 Hours Map Size Loop Images Adjust Speed Advance One
3. Very interesting GP, encouraging signs of something far more wintry than what we have seen so far this decade. Although as always other indices have to play ball.
4. Much more in the way of northern blocking around this coming winter compared to last and for us at least, a colder maybe much colder winter is on the cards compared to last. Thats my punt anyway.
5. Ozone levels continue to grow over the northern hemisphere especially over northern Canada and Greenland. Am I right in thinking this would help promote blocking in these areas?.
6. Might this not help with the propagation of the warming down to lower tropospheric levels I wonder.
7. http://polar.ncep.noaa.gov/ofs/viewer.shtml?-natl-cur-0-small-rundate=latest Hope this helps.
8. The thing is the atmosphere is in a more nina like state than nino with a low atmospheric angular momentum. It seems as if we need a kick from the nino to change the pattern and then see how things develope. Also a strat warming at the 30mb level may well propagate downwards and this could also set the stage for a pattern change in another 10 to 15 days.
