  1. An article on Climategate says that a Scandinavian scientist has demonstrated that a period of cooling between the 1930s - 1950s is not shown on the IPCC graphs.. http://www.climategate.com/scandinavia-gate-climate-cooling-but-scientists-hide-the-decline
  2. http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/02/15/hatton_on_hurricanes/ No demonstratable link found between perceived global warming and increase in hurricanes....
  3. Personally I am happy the Met Warning has been lifted as I am unaccustomed to having a warning for snow until just before it arrives. Usually with the Met the 'DG' area goes from no warnings to flash warnings... Weatherwise - grey, damp and chilly See my new graph in my sig, which shows that while the max temp may have gradually increased over the years - the avg temp stayed about the same..... until this winter!! (click on it to see a larger version)
  4. .....and most importantly is this: even if winter is/was over... there will be another and another and another etc..... and some winters might be mild, some not quite so mild. Personally I don't hold much faith in this global climate change nonsense, and thankfully it seems from what Reporting Scotland have been saying recently - a lot of Scots have come to their senses and are dismissing it as a load of nonsense too (so not all the world has gone insane after all - phew!) and I certainly can't complain after what I've had this winter!! In any case as I have a PWS I have been keeping records since 2007 - which you can see updated every month on my weather site at www.bordersweather.co.uk and you can see the climate history for each month for each year at http://www.bordersweather.co.uk/wxclimate.php and even if my weather station might not be located in the most optimal position - it still gives a different view on the "hockey stick" graphs! 2 Winters in a row with cold winters and 2 summers in a row that were essentially rubbish.... this could well be the start of a new trend......
  5. Sit?? Outside?? I don't fancy that! I take it Winter won't be over until June then??
  6. Well winter is definitely not over in Greenlaw!! We just had really large snowflakes falling out of the sky - I mean HUGE flakes! I was quite surprised me as the radar shows rain near me, but not over me. Anyways I got really excited and was about to submit a #uksnow report to twitter when they stopped. So in summary we had REALLY BIG snow flakes falling for 45 seconds...... Winter is not over! You heard it here folks Oh and PS: Temp is 1.9'C, Hum is 72% and dp is -2.6'C
  7. Well we hit the "record breaking" low of -3.2'C Hardly cold when February usually records the lowest temperature of the whole year for us..... Even worse we are almost back up to 0'C - it's going to be about 5 or 6'C by dinnertime if this run-away warming doesn't calm down... When is the proper cold due to start?? Andy
  8. Hi all, Ta for the model summary, and reality summary.... Been to Newcastle tonight - light snow dusting on the way down, Large parts of Newcastle have frozen snow on the ground and black ice anywhere that hasn't been gritted (ie Pavements!) Anyways back to the Borders: Currently -2.7, Hum: 71%, dp: -7.2, baro: 1026 Over the last hour Humidity has dropped, temp and dp has dropped, baro stayed the same. 10th Feb ended with a DFN of -0.8 and february so far has an average temp of 2 and a DFN of -2.1
  9. I got so fed up with the recent models guesstimating the weather, and then the excitement leading up to the snowmageddon week that hasn't happened and no FI still saying that we have a snowmageddon heading towards us! I am now only looking at 48hrs of forecast, and reading anything GP has to say on the topic, although LS seems to be fairly knowledgeable too, and while there may well be numerous other posters who have a grasp on what is going on - unfortunately it is too hard and time consuming filtering out the bickering Anyways temp now down to 1.3 and hum is up to 50% - deffinately heading in the right direction for frost
  10. Hi CMD, Nope didn't get any frost but got snow around 4am (might be able to see it on the timelapse? http://www.bordersweather.co.uk/timelapse/?tlapse=bordersweather_current ) Anyways looks like we *could* be in for frost tonight as we are currently sitting at: Temp: 2.2 DP: -8.5 Hum: 45% So we just need that humidity to rise up a lot more!! see http://www.bordersweather.co.uk/wxtrends.php for an AJAX powered hourly update
  11. Just to update you it's 0.9'C, humidity is 67% and dp is -4.5'C there's a bitter wind breezy at times - not sure what direction it is coming from as it's hard to tell here - it seems to come from everywhere..... So far - not seeing anything of much interest on the radar. NMM says I should be at 1.8'C, hum 90% and dp of 0.3'C GFS says 2.3'C hum 88% and dp 0.5'C GFS has me progged for light snow (the almost non-existent type) Guess we will see - but it would be nice to reach 0'C or below again if nothing else??
  12. What website did you use to get an aurora forecast, because all the ones I have checked say the field is quiet and the forecast chance is low?? Many thanks
  13. Temp is 4 and dp is -1.0 During January we constantly had a dp of between -8 and -12 when the temp was about 1, humidity dropped as low as 39% <_<
  14. How come the emoticon is spewing red stuff instead of green?? Surely if someone is spewing up red stuff they should be checking in to the nearest hospital pronto! Particularly more so if they have just conceived
  15. How about to give the Pro Anthroprogenic Climate Change theorists something to really talk about - Scotland could have 1ft of snow on my Birthday.... That would have the media, internet and model discussion thread buzzing for weeks!! Hint - it's the 28th of a Month... check profile I wonder if anyone can find a chart showing snow over the UK for my birthday PS - We have had 4 heavy "wet snow" showers since 2am
  16. Just for info.... Just had heavy snow here mixed in with heavy rain Temp dropped from 3'C to 2.2'C and dew point fell from 2.8'C to 1.5'C NMM for this time-period on NW not forecasting snow for my area, but GFS has been for the last 2 days... Make of that what you will.. Similar story with the Jan snow - NMM forecasted nothing for me
  17. Heavy rain with LARGE snowflakes (and not just the odd one either) Started 5mins ago temp and dew point are too warm??
  18. Um... we actually have very large snowflakes in heavy rain here!! Temp 2.8 dropped from 3 and dp is 2.2!!
  19. Personally I am now resigned to the fact that the SE Scottish Borders is not likely to see anything significant in the reliable timeframe (deep FI is another matter, but I will just ignore that) so provided we get some decent cold temps - they don't have to be record breaking though that would be nice!! Also if the High Pressure means we are going to get cold sunny days so be it - what we have had the last 2 days is damp, miserable and horrible and makes you feel like you want to stay in bed all day Finally, The Met Office not having at least Advisories for Scotland doesn't concern me much as we usually jump from having NO warnings of any kind, to suddenly being issued with a Flash Warning out of nowhere....
  20. As there doesn't seem to be a snow thread for today in the snow area...... Woooooo It's Snowing!!! Thanks for listening....
  21. As the temp rises the humidty and dew point fall...... Currently at 0.7'C for temp Hum: 57% Dew Point -6.9 (and falling fast) Come on the snow!!
  22. I just have to say.... woooooooooooooooooo Now I will definitely be able to confirm with 100% certainty how close to Greenlaw the snow actually gets before it suddenly splits up goes around and then joins up again on the other side of Greenlaw!
  23. Just to let you all know, snow started falling in Greenlaw at about 6:10pm got very very heavy at about 6:30pm and went away about 8:30pm. Roughly 10cm of snow fell....
  24. Been snowing here for about 30 minutes now http://www.bordersweather.co.uk/wxcam.php
