  1. A point well made. When it gets severe it can be life threatening too. Let's hope the elderly are checked on during the winter.
  2. That massive low that the models are coming up with at the moment looks similar in scale to one of those classic North American snow storm lows. Anyone have any more comments on this?
  3. All this doomsday scenario for the mother of all snowstorms is hilarious, but I have to admit that if the charts remain correct we could be in for a serious storm. No doubt about it.
  4. Obviously things are hotting up for next week. I think that by next weekend the majority of the country will be covered in the white stuff. Our region could well get a serious pasting!
  5. That Midlands band should reach East Sussex and Kent by tonight. Could give 2 or 3 cm even in low lying areas by Sunday morning!
  6. A nice frosty morning. No snow but anticipating some good snowfall on Tue/Wed.
  7. If we have a winter like 1963, believe me, you ain't seen nothing yet! I remember snow drifts in Brighton up to 15 feet deep! I remember a local petrol station literally almost buried by snow drifts. Double decker Buses buried nearly up to the top decks-it was that good (or bad depending upon how you look at it). Here's to another snowy 1963!
  8. Who knows, perhaps we are in for a 1963 type winter. First signs look good I think everyone will agree. Looking at the Northern Hemisphere temperature profiles I have never seen the cold air cells so extensive (very low Solar Cycle 24 me thinks).
  9. Just cannot see where any substantial snowfall (like in the North) will occur for our region for a sustained period. Yes it will be very cold but no nice deep low moving in. <_<
  10. A very cold and snow free weekend awaits us. Looks interesting on Tue\Wed though with a LOW moving in from SW.
  11. It's certainly going to be cold North Easterlies over the SE by Friday but with a small ridge of HIGH no significant snow. Just some light showers peppering the far eastern coastal areas.
  12. We could be looking at a possible white-out scenario for the south east by Friday with a strong North Easterly.
  13. White xmas looks dead in the water for southern England now.
  14. With a likely depression moving in and developing across southern England on xmas day it certainly looks interesting indeed. I note the Met Office forecast indicates they are very unsure at this time whether snow or rain for the south. If it's snow it could mean a real white out for the big day!
  15. Could it be blizzard conditions for the whole of England on the big day? Quite possibly!
  16. A lot of heavy showers in the Dutch sector now beginning to feed down. But will they hit East Kent?
  17. Looks like Hertfordshire got a pasting. Not much here on the south coast. A bit more on the South Downs though not surprisingly.
  18. Snow on xmas eve and xmas day would be just wonderful. I'd certainly be raising the brandy glass to it. Cheers!
  19. Chances of white stuff on the 25 have decreased I think. Now only 20-30%.
  20. Anyone think we are due a 1963 or even 1947 UK severe winter? I think we are overdue for one.
  21. We are certainly overdue for a severe winter like that of 1963. Could it be this winter I wonder. The charts are certainly interesting at the moment. I think the balance has tipped too to a 60% white Christmas particularly for the eastern side of the country.
  22. Seriously I'm not really saying that a 1963 or 1947 will happen this winter. If you look at the temperature profiles across the northern hemisphere at this time, there are two definite larger cold air cells this year than in many recent years. The Siberian cell is huge extending right across the whole of Russia and into China while the north American cell covers the whole of Canada and reaching northern USA (causing the snowstorms there at the moment). A snowy Christmas is more likely to happen than not. I say 50-50 at this time. But it all depends upon the Scandinavian High staying put.
