  1. Yes, another poster alluded to this likelihood earlier. EDIT:- Wysiwyg - beat me to it! The BBC - and this was also mentioned - have indicated a cold front moving south, warm sector not in evidence - if my memory isn't playing tricks on me again! So positive news as we approach the much more reliable timeframe.
  2. Great photos! Thanks for posting them. Looks like there will be a fairly severe frost up there tonight as well.
  3. Current temp. -0.6c Dewpoint -4.0c Humidity 80% 1020.3mb Long sunny spells, very light patchy cloud
  4. Buxton must be a really great place to live - or anywhere with that kind of altitude I suppose. Those temperatures do not surprise me and having been up there a few times it can, obviously, be really badly affected by snowfall when conditions are right. I have known Buxton to be completely cut off - particularly during the '80's. I cannot remember when that last happened here.
  5. I agree. The minimum here this winter has so far been -8.2c. Tonight will come close to that I would have thought with a snowcover - and others such as OON may well, as you say, see -10.0c or possibly even lower.
  6. Current temp. -1.1c Dewpoint -2.0c Humidity 92% Mean wind speed (10 min) 6mph Strongest gust 27mph Wind direction NE Light snow now clearing.
  7. I echo those sentiments entirely. Looking at the radar, it seems that the final band of ppn is virtually upon us - if not some of us already. After that just watch those temperatures plummet.
  8. Sounds about right James - much the same here. Should be a very sharp frost once this lot clears.
  9. The good thing in this situation of course is that anyone who does currently have a decent covering is likely to keep it for the next week or so - all being well. Prospects also improve into next week for those without any snowcover at the moment. Win/win as far as I'm concerned.
  10. Sounds like a joke, but actually might not be that far off the mark at all!
  11. I've been trying to say this for a while. I do not live at a location as elevated as some of the other posters from Saddleworth on this thread, however I can say that the temp. has dipped a fraction below freezing and the snow is beginning to drift. PS. Like the avatar by the way - good film
  12. To me that means that the weather will be even worse - ie. even more wintry - than where I live. Enjoy it!
  13. Yep, exactly as it should be. Very difficult to tell what we will get from this one although some parts of Yorkshire look to have had a bit of a pasting - if the radar is anything to go by anyway.
  14. Really surprising! There is nothing marginal about this whatsoever here. Powder snow, a temp. of 0.2c and dewpoint of -1.0c. I hope it improves for you. I would like to know though if anyone else has the same conditions that I am reporting.
  15. This is looking much better now. Wind has picked up, temp. has dropped a little and it is still snowing - not heavily, but it is quite a wintry scene out there.
  16. Glad to hear that! Have been watching the radar and the band of ppn is almost here. Temp. has risen ever so slightly to 0.4c - should be OK with that. EDIT: Snowing here too!
  17. Max. temp. (today) 0.5c Current temp. 0.3c Dewpoint 0.0c Humidity 96% 1010.9mb Cloudy.
  18. Thank you for the clarification there John. I knew that it was designed for up to at least T+168 although I was unsure how far beyond that its capabilities extended. By the way - and off topic, I subscribed to NW Extra the other day - with radar and NMM charts. First class and well worth it. I know that several others have said the same thing but I must concur!
  19. Snowing quite heavily yet again, having eased off for a time earlier.
  20. To be fair the ECM is not a short-range forecasting tool. It was not designed for that purpose. The ECM is a medium-range forecasting model best utilized for the 72 - 168hrs range if I am not mistaken.
  21. We are indeed! I did not realise myself how much had actually fallen and continues to fall until I opened the door this morning. Merely looking at it through the window did not give a true indication of snow depth on this occassion. Snowing quite heavily at the moment.
  22. Temperature has risen here too but still only 0.1c and snowing. Skies look quite dark to the west / north-west and radar looks OK so all in all quite promising.
  23. Overnight min. -4.1c Current temp. -0.6c Dewpoint -1.0c Humidity 95% 1008.7mb Little or no wind. Snowing steadily.
  24. A really pleasant surprise this morning. Snowing steadily now - has been on and off for the past hour at least - producing a good covering.
