  1. Current temp. -0.2c Dewpoint -1.0c Humidity 92% 1004.6mb Cloudy, occassional light snow showers. Little or no wind although interestingly wind direction signified by the weather station has altered from NE earlier today to NW.
  2. Light snow falling again. Must admit to being a little surprised considering how the snow showers became less frequent during the afternoon. I would have expected more of a clearance and sharp frost. Maybe it is not quite going to be like that. EDIT: Just seen your post dodgeredee - what the radar suggests sounds more like it!
  3. Yep, it might be intermittent and relatively light but this is the best shower of the day in my opinion. Temperature of at or below freezing - which is what it is here anyway - really helps.
  4. Just had a look at the radar and seen all those showers further north, over the borders and north-east England - which is what I imagine you are referring to. Let's hope some of that makes it our way!
  5. Very fine snow falling, adding to the dusting from earlier today.
  6. Happy New Year Wysiwyg and everyone else of course. The outlook looks very promising!
  7. Quite true - because they are the major population centres. Temperatures stated are also sea-level temps. I believe, which makes a huge difference. The models have though been suggesting, very strongly, temperatures well below average - partularly overnight minima. Incidentally, the maximum temp. where I live today was a meagre 0.4c. - it is below freezing now of course and the projected cold spell has barely started.
  8. Max. temp. (today) 0.4c Current temp. -0.3c Dewpoint -2.0c Humidity 87% 1002.3mb Cloudy & dry. Little or no wind.
  9. Too true. I can actually see the dark clouds over the hills to the north-east - and they are just sliding down the eastern side. I've seen it so many times. Directly overhead clouds are patchy resulting in a very light snow flurry.
  10. Thanks for posting those photos ONO. I always appreciate it when others are able to provide the rest of us with the opportunity to see the snowfalls which have occurred elsewhere. I find it of great interest and it helps keep the spirits up when snow is largely absent - to any significant degree anyway - in ones own area. Cheers.
  11. Snow flurries on and off this morning. Temperature is below freezing so we still have a dusting on the grass and paths.
  12. Overnight min. -4.5c Current temp. -1.4c Dewpoint -3.0c Humidity 91% 1002.4mb Occassional light snow, little or no wind
  13. Temp. -1.2c Dewpoint -3.0c Humidity 87% 1001.3mb Light snow flurries, little or no wind. Happy New Year to all.
  14. Very, very light snow - only the odd flake or two but at least it's something
  15. A wonderful view of the moon tonight. Thank you Mr D. for bringing this event to the attention of all, including myself, who would otherwise not have known. Thanks again. Happy new year.
  16. Temp. -0.1c Dewpoint -2.0c Humidity 84% 1000.2mb Dry, little or no wind
  17. Hi Tamara To be honest I have been totally fed up with what has been going on in that regard, to the extent that I have barely posted in the thread for my region today - such has been the nature of the conversation at times. As you point out in your post below, the model thread is there for discussion of the model output - not for discussion of ones own prospects for snow. Some fail to appreciate this and hence moan, complain, accuse people of bias and self-interest - most of this being completely unfounded in my honest opinion. I almost hesitate to say this but how many of those who may be regarded as the worst culprits actually have the technical expertise to converse or articulate themselves in a meaningful way with the more knowledgeable members who post on that thread, many of whom just happen to live in the south east. That does sound like elitism or arrogance - it isn't meant to. If I were capable of having a discussion at their level with Steve Murr or Nick Sussex for instance on matters meteorological I would, however I do not yet profess to have a scientific working knowledge of the subject, and I know that. Hence I stay out of the model thread by and large for that very reason. Discussions of will it snow IMBY are for the regional thread as said. I for one hope that this entire issue begins to dissipate sooner rather than later and may I wish everyone wherever they may live - especially fellow members in the south east corner on this occassion! - a very happy new year. Happy New Year to all.
  18. Yep, the temperature really is taking a dive now - from 3.1c here not so long ago to 1.8c now
  19. Temp. 0.8c Dewpoint -3.0c Humidity 78% Mean wind speed 1mph NE 1000.1mb Sunshine with patchy cloud. Such a contrast to yesterday!
  20. Thanks for everything John. Your input and experience has been greatly appreciated.
  21. John has posted a very good summary imo regarding the current prospects in the said model thread only a short while ago. Definitely worth a look.
  22. Regarding any easterly component, purely looking at this from an IMBY perspective experience has shown me that a straightforward easterly tends to deliver just as easily. Now I am aware that this is not necessarily the case for many others in the north west - particularly those near the coast. Equally southeasterlies or northeasterlies are not nearly so dependable. Quite true too about those others further west having their best opportunities for snow from a northerly. I do live in the east of the region and have to say that in the event of a pure easterly I never watch the local north west forecasts because they are usually wide of the mark for my locality - I watch those for eastern england.
  23. Temp. 1.8c Dewpoint 0.0c Humidity 88% 992.4mb Mean wind speed 18mph Strongest gust 43mph Wind direction NE Light snow
  24. That's what the radar appears to suggest. Having just seen a bbc forecast the preciptation should be out of the way - moved south, fizzled out etc - by tomorrow, so it could be a slow process. Cold thereafter - so something to look forward to at least
  25. Great photos! Amazing really to think that those were taken just up the road from me - it does illustrate very well what a difference that extra elevation makes.
