  1. Temperature -0.1c, dewpoint -1.0c. Thaw over for now!
  2. I shall correct myself - just visited a couple of online bookies and they allow for the full 24 hours. How generous!
  3. Moreover, if my memory serves me well (and it probably does not ) for the bookies to pay out snow has to fall before midday on the 25th. Any later and it doesn't count!
  4. Currently 1.1c with dewpoint of 1.0c here - so a slow thaw going on. I would expect there to still be a decent snowcover for some of us over Christmas Day although Boxing Day will see a quicker thaw I suspect.
  5. Temp. 1.1c, dewpoint 1.0c, cloudy. Still several inches of lying snow from Sunday and Tuesday. Slow thaw.
  6. Reports of snow in Birmingham amongst other locations. If that's the case its looking good for the North West tonight
  7. Dovestones is great in winter, the route up to Chew Resevoir (via Chew Road) can be an epic one when there is a fair bit of snow on the ground - brilliant when you do eventually reach the top though. As for todays weather here clear and cold sums it up - just hope there is no rain / sleet tonight or tomorrow.
  8. 250m - presumably specifically for tomorrows event? That makes it quite marginal for most of us. So far for my own area marginal has not entered into it with the best part of a foot of snow here. One to watch without a doubt although any real milder weather is not likely to show its face until Boxing Day and even then if some of the models are to be believed the transition to less cold weather could be quite short-lived.
  9. It is a reference to the snow etc over the Borders and Cumbria I think and is forecast to get to the Manchester region by between 5 and 8am although disintegrating and petering out as it does so.
  10. Solar Cycles is correct - GP is the one to ask. There is a separate thread 'stratospheric temperature watch' for this also and I think i recall digging out some info. from the learners area earlier too. Hope that helps - if only a bit!
  11. That's exactly what I was thinking. The concern at the moment is quite the opposite - a cooling of the stratosphere perhaps allowing the polar vortex to get its act together. Well for now I'm enjoying the winter wonderland we do have - yesterday was ace
  12. Looking at the radar, there are some showers which should be around your area now, these are ahead of the main band of precipitation. We have just had a light snow shower, temp. -0.1 and rising very slowly. Doesn't look good at 3.5c unfortunately, but the air behind the front is cold with plently of activity to follow so still reasons for optimism
  13. Just starting to snow here - only light at the moment. Looking ahead, what are your thoughts on the showers forecast for tomorrow. My only concern is that they will slip through the Cheshire Gap and miss completely- which has happened before for my area, while other parts get really heavy snow.
  14. It's stopped now. Must have been a very brief & localized shower.
  15. Has gone quite dark here and snowing more heavily now. Temp. -0.7.
  16. Hi Probably a really stupid question but how do i include the 'add as a friend' and 'pm this member' icons on my profile? I have tried altering a few things in settings, so far to no avail.
  17. Snowing lightly but steadliy here in Mossley - just the beginnings of a very slight breeze after being totally still all morning
