Met Office app has heavy snow for Frome from 22:00 through to 04:00, I just cannot see it myself - not unless I'm missing something??
Looking at the radar, IMO it seems further east, Hampshire / Surrey / Berks looks like they will be getting the heavier PPN?

I really really don’t want this snow. I’m being so selfish and normally I love the stuff but I have to travel and I need the kids to be at school tomorrow
I'm with you Khoods, I love a decent snow event, But i have to leave Frome at 4am (Friday) and travel to Wokingham - not looking forward to it at all.....

Local ITV forecast on now looks a bit patchy to be blunt. Sorry for bad news.
Pah - Don't bother with ITV, give Ian F a watch in a few mins. :-)

Could be a lot of rain here, going by the graphics on the points west forecast. A bit of interest for someone who doesn't mind heavy rain and strong winds! It'll be a busy affair tomorrow, that's for sure- and travelling will be rather horrid for anyone caught up in it.
Totally agree about the travelling, I'm working in Wokingham at the moment - so decided to book a hotel room for tomorrow night. Don't fancy travelling back from Wokingham to Frome in rush hour traffic with the potential of heavy snow :-)

Best post of the day, from no accumulation to up to 10cm on higher ground. This could well be amber if this firms up later today as 4inch in the UK causes proper road issues, especially sticky wet snow. boooooom
When looking at the South-West region on this alert, it's split into 2 parts,
1. Cornwall and Devon
2. Bath and North East Somerset, Bournemouth, Bristol, Devon, Dorset, Gloucestershire, North Somerset, Poole, Somerset, South Gloucestershire, Swindon, Torbay, Wiltshire
The 10cms "at this stage" only applies to Cornwall and Devon,

Still snowing in Warwick, not been that heavy but I would guess approx 1cm
And it's all coming your way :-))
-
Still snowing in Warwick (working in Warwick) - still light... but a nice small covering...
Really hope this holds and pushes through to the SW region - Enjoy!!!!
-
Thank you, theprophecyman.
Juat started in Warwick, albeit very light..... Hope it continues to the SW......

My lovely local weather station www.southamptonweather.co.uk reckons we have a 40% chance of some wet snow showers tonight. (Just shows how bad the last two winters have been that that forecast can put a smile on my face!)
Looking at the radar the ppn coming in from the North Sea over Humberside looks like it could track due South and come towards the snow-starved central south coast (please, please!) IF those greedy beggars in the Midlands don't suck it all out of the sky...
Netweather forecast gives me nothing, btw, so I'm not talking to them!
I'm working in Warwick this week.... If any pass this direction I will be sure to fire them down to your neck of the woods.
-
looks to be taking a more South Easterly Track, come out of nowhere over the past 40 min
Unfortunately it seems to be losing its intensity?
-
I'd take an inch of snow, better than nothing mate.
I'd take a few snow showers to be honest, a long night in store.....

Those unlucky sods in between
Basically it seems there is an increased threat of light snow during tonight.
Possible 1-2cm for some areas. Up to 5cm higher ground.
You'd be gutted if you lived in the thin strip between the 2 warnings.
-
Can you point it out on a radar screen grab for me please? I can't see where you mean? Thanks!
I'm very technically challanged :-) so not sure how to add picture attachments.
But have a look on www.raintoday.co.uk and you can see PPN building up from North Wales pushing south
Hope this helps?

Trough forming - Cheshire gap! Go Go GO
Agree Go Go Go
Although........
1. Will it reach or region or be swallowed up over the Welsh Mountains
2. Will it produce snow if it does reach us

Well, the wind warning is certainly valid.. Getting gusty out there. I'm off to bed - at least the cold looks here to stay for a while yet.
Did you have to shout that?! Rub it in our faces ((sob))
Was just the way it got copy and pasted - sorry, didnt mean to rub it in.....
Roll on next week then..... Hopefully things will be more positive for the South West.

Latest from Ian F
W COUNTRY 2315hrs latest analysis reduces snow risk tonight generally, with likely exception of parts of #Cotswolds & E #Wiltshire
W COUNTRY CONT'D...even where snow falls, slightly milder air follows so may turn anyway to rain/sleet. So hopefully no major issues by dawn
-
Yeah and some will tell you if the ppn is high enough it will lower temps. What that really means is our heavier pulses of rain will be even colder.
Was snow forecasted for Poole in your forecast? As I understand it was only the far NE of the S/W region - even this area will me marginal in my view - especially as the temps/DP seem to be on the rise....
-
Temp now 2.7c from a earlier low of 1.2c
and DP now 0c from a earlier low of -2c
Probably accounts for the last shower being sleety
Are the temps/DP due to drop??
-
Yah, white stuff falling from the skies in Frome.....
STOPPED.....that didnt last long
-
Nice one lads. Nothing here. Rain /sleet earlier odd flake.
Give 20/25mins and I reckon we'll see some flakes in Frome
-
I don't know if Fergie is online but if you do see this... Is that really a Polar Low to the North West of Scotland? Some people are saying it is but I'm not so sure.
Sorry I have a dumb question :-)
If this was a Poler Low how would that effect us in the SW?
Thanks

@fergieweather: W COUNTRY Re tonight, greatest risk of snow (maybe 2-5 cm in some areas) is currently assessed as #Cotswolds & upland #Wiltshire (e.g. M4)
Think we should play M4 bingo - as in how many times Ian mentions the M4 corridor on his forecast at the end of points west,,,
I'll go with 4 times
