  1. Closer inspection now it's getting light reveals remaining hail and/or snow on cars and roofs. Hailing again now leaving a slushy deposit.
  2. That might suggest why I saw a car come into Warminster from the Southern end this morning with a few inches of snow on its roof!
  3. I did that with my 16 month old boy on a frozen puddle this morning, he loved the sound! As he did playing with hailstones last Friday and watching snow fall Sunday/yesterday. We have made the most we possibly could of him learning during this spell of cold.
  4. I was questioning my sensor (again) until reading others have seen the temperature rise too!
  5. Daisy's been fraternising with Fergie! Staggering variety across our region, tonight's minima will be fascinating.
  6. I think one of the issues with snow taking time to settle and subsequently thawing even overnight is that the ground temperature simply isn't low enough. We probably needed a few hard/severe frosts first. Vile dull morning with sporadic light wet snow/sleet and very cold in the wind, 1.4c currently. 3 days out of 4 with wintry precipitation which is positive seeing as it's only 11th December.
  7. Settling was beginning to go well after dusk until the precipitation decided to die out! Still it snowed for about 9 hours which hasn't happened for nearly 5 years!
  8. Looking at the radar I wonder if there could end up to be a surprisingly substantial snowfall from Somerset to Dorset later. Some very heavy precipitation in those areas now, to its North we have light to moderate wet snow which isn't settling.
  9. Settling or not we haven't had frontal snowfall like now in nearly 5 years! The pointless gone by 9am dustings of the last 4 winters have all come via showery NW set ups like Friday was or flurries from brief Easterlies.
  10. Stunning to see that eye on radar! Regardless of ones hopes, wishes, frustrations etc this is an amazing weather day.
  11. Up and down like a yoyo isn't it! I think evaporative cooling is playing a part in the heaviest rain. 24mm in my gauge, thinking if only!!!!
  12. Rather a depressing forecast on BBC a few minutes ago. Basically chilly and wet for Sunday and Monday. I would rather have it cold and dry to keep the frozen dusting we already have from last night.
  13. Met Office app has this for Warminster on Monday morning. We've had a dusting of proper snow this evening to follow on from this afternoons soft hail fun.
  14. Not the best quality as I have a grumpy clingy 16 month old! Fun 5 minutes watching soft hail/graupel from the lounge window.
  15. Dew points are probably low enough though. Kind of like those April days we've had the last 2 Springs. A few flurries in Warminster of mixed wet snow/sleet/graupel. Radar suggests something really heavy between Bristol and Bath.
  16. Looking at the various apps and charts we have snow chances on 4 consecutive days. When did that last happen!?!? Friday and Saturday ; flurries/showers Sunday and Monday ; frontal precipitation
  17. I can't believe people get so hung up on precipitation timing forecasts so far in advance. Things will never turn out like that! As an example, today was forecast last night to be dry yet in Warminster it's been drizzly most of the day.
  18. Just like this week last year we have seen the ground cool and harden in the November 28th to December 1st period only to be followed by something milder. Here's hoping it doesn't become like last December, I don't think it will.
  19. A few flurries showing on the radar to the W/NW of here, lots of cloud drifting S on the bitter wind so it's possible some of us could see something.
  20. I never understand all the wrist slashing and toy throwing in the model threads at this time of year! It's as if all some people want is a complete Narnia snow fest! Surely a good starting point is lowering temperatures (both air and ground) under HIGH pressure and seeing as it's still Autumn anything more wintry is a 2010 style bonus! Wonderful day today, give me this throughout winter and I'll be happy! And there's a definite chill to the wind.
  21. Why were we inland several degrees above freezing and those on the coastal areas below freezing? I was questioning my sensor until your info!
  22. Decent sleet/hail shower passed over half an hour ago, isolated affair though as clear blue sky has followed on.
  23. Tonight's potential is more of an organised front/trough moving more West-East so the Welsh mountains shouldn't affect it as much as they will tomorrow's showers.
