  1. Love Long Tails Jethro! Reliable time frame, are we actually going to have a dry day!?
  2. Is 'Cold Rain' an official term? Chris Fawkes spoke it and had it on screen at 13.30 regarding Saturday!
  3. I actually want dry/cold for work purposes 12th-16th Feb and to dry everything out! Snow/ice on the ground wouldn't be helpful until the 17th!! Then it can turn to Narnia!!
  4. I've just driven from Trowbridge to Warminster and it was fascinating to see the whole Western to Southern sky covered in a bank of Stratocumulus as the Warm Front approaches while the rest of the sky remained clear, rather rare not to have Cirrus as a precursor to a front. Might have to bring the washing in before it drizzles. On a side note, Karlos, if the chart you posted in the model thread for a fortnights time comes off then I can kiss goodbye to earning much bonus money doing outdoor work while my wife is on half term break!
  5. Mapantz, your sub zero duck must have been broken too? Stunning clear morning, frosty, -1.2c .
  6. When are we going to get a dry day? Tomorrow's likely dry day has downgraded to a damp late afternoon and evening. That's 3 days out of 5 (last Friday and yesterday being the other 2) which have been looking dry until the day before and it most certainly won't be dry on Wednesday to Saturday inclusive!
  7. In difference to other places we have persistent drizzle! Yet another dry forecast not occurring.
  8. One sure bet I've found over years of weather watching is that in a very unsettled spell even the modelled then forecast dry days have either drizzle or showers, this morning it is the latter and there's plenty of them.
  9. Two lines of showers and associated CBs have moved through this afternoon, the second is just clearing while the first brought hail as we caught the heaviest cell. Otherwise it's been virtually unbroken sunshine.
  10. For the second week in a row the forecast for Saturday is worsening as it gets closer! Meanwhile I am going to make a prediction ; there is only one week this winter that I don't want to be wintry, half term week 12th-16th February. It's still 3 to 4 weeks away and I predict it to be the most wintry week of this winter!
  11. I wouldn't be so sure Mike, fax charts suggest to me a potentially showery Thursday and fronts approaching from the West Friday night into Saturday. Lovely day, washing on the line, although I had to wade across the lawn to do so lol .
  12. 22mm in Warminster. I noticed by radar watching for much of the day that the heaviest rain pulsed from the Bristol Channel across Somerset and began to weaken as it got to Wiltshire. Lovely outside now ; no wind, no rain, not cold, no clear sky either though!
  13. One of my wife's colleagues/friends moved to work in Dubai a few years ago and it seems when it rains there it doesn't mess around!
  14. I would rather the milder air was already here, losing track of how much 'cold rain' we've had this winter.
  15. You can bet your absolute bottom dollar that perfect winter synoptics will turn up in Spring! Currently cooling here at 2.8c after an unexpectedly wet day, morning drizzle culminated in downpours this afternoon then a misty/clear ish evening.
  16. Happy birthday! Really interesting day with frost/ice then sunshine and 4 hail/sleet showers so far, lovely CBs around from time to time.
  17. Wow I wonder how far away that CB was from your location!? Erm, Ian mentioned on Points West a small risk of snow on Saturday as a front skirts along the South (rain most likely though ) . Until earlier today those fronts were expected to be over France. Could we get an unexpected surprise rather than be frustrated at a long forecast event not happening?
  18. That was 2 weeks before we moved house, since living in our current house there has been nothing more than either flurries or a wet dusting that's gone in a few hours! A very rough night around here, constant roaring wind through the woods on the East side of Warminster/West side of Salisbury Plain.
  19. Looks like wintry showers are possible again from late afternoon tomorrow on into Friday, so the scattered chance of hail, sleet and wet snow to hope for!
  20. A small part of my fortnightly work area in Westbury has a little graupel/small hail laying in grass and on car roofs! Whooppee!!
  21. Whatever falls there are some serious downpours moving quickly across Devon and Somerset.
  22. Therein lies the difference between the Mendips and other places. I've had 1 frost in the last week and that was only briefly one late evening before it got up to 3c+ by dawn. The weekend never got below 3c and today has been up to double figures. Even in December after a few properly frosty nights the snow which settled disappeared quickly. I'm not discounting the likelihood of snow settling tomorrow evening/night, but unless there's an unexpected several inches from a persistent streamer (possible) I can't see it sustaining past mid morning on Wednesday.
  23. Also the ground temperature is nowhere near low enough to sustain snow cover.
