Soon to discover if Salisbury Plain will provide impetus or suck the life out of the precipitation.

So dry winter air finally turned up from around midday yesterday. Just hung bedding on the line, the grass is crunchy and ground finally drying out!

Raining. Again. It rained last night too!

Yes it’s chaos locally, not as bad as last night but plenty of issues! Of course some of it has ‘absolutely nothing to do with new housing on floodplain fields next to rivers’ !!!!!!!!

It's gone up from 8 to 10 degrees here since the rain eased off an hour ago. Positively warmfrontesque it is!
Whereas to the NW area of the LOW it’s now 3c.

Evaporative cooling at play for sure.

Not especially warm either at just 5C now. Very heavy rain for the last 3 hours
I hadn’t realised this, not checked the temperature since we went for a walk at 9am. 3c to 4c lower would have been interesting!

Arguably the heaviest rain of this ridiculously wet period is happening right now. Blowing onto the East facing windows too so a tight Southerly tracking LOW too.

Yes it’s clearing beautifully now, so hopefully a fine afternoon to come, but we have just emptied 37mm out of my gauge from the last 48 hours !!

What an interesting few hours!
The strongest wind coincided with a pretty sunny hour and it’s now eased to a breeze with a torrential downpour!

The gusts have certainly ramped up in my area in the last 15 minutes.
Amusingly this morning my son took the word ‘windy’ off his calendar magnetic weather chart because it was calm at breakfast time!

That’s a new word to me but I can hear the sound you mean, very onomatopoeic!

The first person who says we need rain come a dry few weeks in summer will be for the high jump!
2023 had 22 inches more rain than 2021 and 14 more than 2022 IMBY!

Just been totting up my stats for the year and had forgotten that the highest temperature occurred in September!

There was a fun hail shower in Westbury about half an hour ago.

Extremely gloomy and damp/wet this morning. Very thankful yesterday and Thursday both had several hours of sunshine!

Ridiculous differences locally this morning. It’s been dry and bright all morning in Warminster (ironically until we have just got home) but from Stoford into Salisbury it was torrential at 10am and still was around 11.15am!
Surface flooding, rivers flowing out of the fields, awful conditions!

What we haven’t had for numerous years is a N/NW’ly wintry shower set up in November or December bringing graupel, soft hail and everything else.
Another brief heavier shower has added to our earlier dusting then frozen over, so at least there should be white to enjoy looking at in the morning.
