South East England & East Anglia Regional Weather Discussion 28/03/14
rmc1987 replied to Snowangel-MK's topic in Regional
I have seen some mentions about the haze etc. BBC tweeted Saharan sand and dust will continue to be transported this way. I guessed this is why the sky is how it is right now, sand/dust mixed with the high hazey cloud?- 1,243 replies

Severe Storm System & Arctic Blast Thursday 5th Onwards
rmc1987 replied to Summer Sun's topic in Storms & Severe Weather
Only spray? Well I wouldn't expect the heavy rain and wind she was wittering on about. Maybe a mess up? Winds have calmed and radar is almost clear. -

Just seen weather on ITV I think it was. Talked of winds and heavy rain this evening for this region. Not much of rain today so where's it coming from?- 750 replies

Didn't realise but I see there's rain due tonight. Could triton wintery according to BBC under London text forecast. Heathrow currently reporting temp of 4c and dew of 3c. Perhaps sleet for some on higher ground? Some Norwegians I know posted last night some snow pictures back there. Ahh so nice lol, they were playing out in it and that's people who grew up with plenty of it. Makes me want to go back now.- 738 replies

Exacta weather - says it all. I was reading an article the other day then saw Johnathan Powell, at which point I stopped reading. Papers are going crazy with this nonsense, what started it all?- 768 replies

Calmed down from earlier. On it's way out it would seem, Heathrow reporting just 45mph gusts on it's 7.20am weather ATIS- 1,436 replies

Heathrow NOAA had gusts of 45mph (7.20am) and they've cancelled flights. Easy to overreact but there you go. Seems to be calming down now too. As forecast it wasn't supposed to last long. Apart from sky of course
-
Fun while it lasted I guess.
-
Wind and gusts dropped at Heathrow now.
-
Not quite so bad, gusts of about 60 here (Heathrow) quite a way of the 90 sky came up with last night for Heathrow.

Possible severe storm Monday 28th October 2013 Part 3
rmc1987 replied to Coast's topic in Storms & Severe Weather
Bold but I would disregard what sky news are saying. Seems clear this is not something that'll affect ground level (hence why airports informed). Wind of 90mph is worthy of a red alert and wider attention from the MetO itself. -

90mph, mmm sky, I think are probably reporting a wind sped which wouldn't be experienced at our lower (grounded) levels I suspect. -

I would say that either they have got their wires crossed with what they mean or you simply mis-heard. They've tweeted no such thing and they've tweeted most bits too. -

Johnathan Powell perhaps!? Actually, naa can't be, too underplayed for him.And you have a good point about higher level winds affecting planes on their ILS etc. That would make more sense. -

You mean 80knts or mph? 80Knts would mean over 90mph which I can not see. -

Sounding as calm out, as a summer's evening here. -

Really it's the models overhype it rather than the MetO. I didn't expect anything more than we normally would get anyway. -

It does seen extreme to have mass cancellations. People need to get to work etc. The country can't just stop due to some wind. -

Brest currently report winds of 30mph, no gust reports though. That's from the airport station on NOAA website. Brest is NW tip practically. -

So further downgrades? Just as train companies revise their timetables. Oh dear. -

Although there have been various warnings people have commented 'you oboe what they're like, it won't be that bad' so I don't think it'll do anything for reputation. Similarily people have also comented on the media hype being just that. So again no problem. Basically nothing unusual from MetO or media in that sense and people already consider it to be OTT from what I hear. It might get a bit windy but no more than the usual storm. I don't see much more than what we have had in recent years based on what is being said. Wind gusts of 60/70 along coasts, less in land. Haven't we seen this before?
