  1. Yellow Warning of Slushy Deposits for London & South East England : Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, West Berkshire & Milton Keynes Rain will turn to snow for a time, mainly over the high ground during Friday morning. Over low ground it is unlikely that any snow will accumulate but some areas may see falling snow and slushy deposits for a time. The public are advised to be aware of the potential for some disruption to travel especially during the Friday morning rush hour. Issued at: 1100 on Thu 27 Feb 2014 Valid from: 0200 on Fri 28 Feb 2014 Valid to: 1500 on Fri 28 Feb 2014 An area of low pressure is expected to move eastwards on Friday. There remains some uncertainty in its track and therefore on the risk and location of any snow. This warning will be kept under review and the public are advised to keep up to date with the forecast and warnings.
  2. Do you think we should warn the people in Wales there is a big yellow blob going to land on them ..... It's actually the area 'at risk' of seeing any snow ..... So a downgrade what a surprise - not that I was ever expecting to see any significant snowfall here ! The area most likely to see anything is the mountainous central and Southern parts of Wales and perhaps some far Western parts of the West Midlands, with the timing looking like snow is most likely to fall between midnight tonight and 1pm tomorrow afternoon. So unlikely that we will be seeing the snow event that is currently being portrayed by the media......the London Evening Standard, Daily Mirror and Meridian News are all reporting that 'experts' are warning of snow for London and the south east - Meanwhile the Daily Excess is forecasting the UK to be blanketed in 8 inches of snow - The Daily Star are forecasting a mini heat wave for spring so that's ok then !
  3. The man from met monkey says the risk is exceptionally low for the following reasons: (a) Cold air entrainment prior to the low tracking across the country is meager and will not aid in lowering the 0oC isotherm (b) Boundary layer air @ approx 850mb will average -3oC which is marginal for ground above 200m but too high for sea level wintriness © Warm air advection/Warm sector of the low will generally keep the 0oC isotherm up (d) Despite the possibility of colder surface temperatures prior to the approach of the low, temperatures will rise during the passage of the warm sector tied in with the low centre, which will lead to dew points of approx +2oC or above, or 1oC to above 200m+ (e) (+) points for possible wintriness are upper air profiles ie. 500mb of approx -30oC and a geo-potential thickness below the around the required DAM528. Upper level requirements despite being supportive of wintriness, when combined with the other variables, will not be enough to support snow to lower levels. There is potential for isothermal melt layer induced wintriness to higher levels above 200m generally in heavier PPN (precipitation) Although we're monitoring the potential of some wintriness, it's much more likely that this will be limited to higher ground of 200m+ primarily across Wales, whether this warrants issuing a watch is unclear, but right now it does fall below our threshold. Advice is to take the MO advice seriously, but if you are expecting snow, don't be surprised to see rain with the occasional pulse of sleet to slightly higher ground and some wet snow to the very highest ground.

  5. Obviously not the same Scaremongering one that is going with the headline of: SNOW ALERT: The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for snow during Arctic blast forecast on Friday and Saturday Even though confidence in the forecast seems low and the chances of any significant snowfall will be on the higher ground and at best for lower levels any accumulation will be slushy and temporary I bet there are still some people going to rush out and panic buy the bread and milk anyway....

  10. Morning all - lovely bright and sunny start to the day here :-) Just seen theses brilliant hybrid pictures of London landmarks from 50 years ago to the present day.... http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/technology-science/technology/streetmuseum-20-pictured-see-incredible-3182602
  11. Not weather related but as there are some horsey peeps on here I thought I would share this - a friend has just posted on Facebook ...... Lovely little mare, free to good home., Thoroughbred,... Bexhill-On-Sea http://www.friday-ad.co.uk/bexhill-on-sea/horses-and-equestrian/horses/horses-for-sale/lovely-little-mare-YI403EBA9
  12. Well it was for me that day but I wasn't in this country for the proms in the park last year so I missed it ! Hopefully we will get a really scorching hot summer and all the summer festivals will be rain and mud free this year :-)
  13. Yes and for this....Proms in the Park - 15 August 2014Aiming to repeat the unprecedented success of last year’s Proms in the Park, Milton Keynes City Orchestra has partnered again with The Parks Trust to present Proms in the Park 2014. Taking place in Campbell Park on Friday 15 August at 8pm this event promises an uplifting evening of classical favourites, relaxed picnics and a spectacular firework finale.
  14. The Parks Trust’s here in MK have a free Open Air Film Festival at Campbell Park in August - this year they are showing some classic films from the 80’s and 90’s The Drive In Movie has returned for 2014 too, I might just have to go along and watch Jaws from the comfort of my own car !
  15. Just drive through some very heavy pick and mix precipitation - there was all sorts blowing around in it !
  16. Morning all, Back to the grey dross of single figure temperature and rain today....oh well ! It was heavy at times in the night but is lighter now thankfully, I hope we won't see a return to the flooding, with luck the water had receded enough that this top isn't going to be a problem. Positive thoughts and best wishes go out to all those that need them today
  17. I'm still feeling bitterly disappointed not to have got the 100 days of snow (I think the use by date for that is today) the Excess promised... ...but now with the meteorological start of spring just around the corner I'm hoping for a taste of early summer..... is there anyone who would still like a cold snap before we wave winter 2013/14 goodbye?
  18. In the short term it looks as if we are going to see the return of stormier conditions, but thankfully it's not looking as severe as we've seen in the last few weeks, hopefully we can say goodbye to this horrible wet and snow-less winter soon and move on to something more user friendly !
  19. Morning all, Woke up to a fantastic sunny day with just a bit of wispy cloud and a contrail kiss in the sky, I was a bit too late to catch the sunrise but I would imagine it was lovely ! Mother Nature seems to be ready for spring, but we are not quite there yet by the looks of it another W&W night tonight into tomorrow and a rinse and repeat Wednesday night into Thursday ! "Monday night an occluding system rattles in, bringing some heavy rain but moving eastwards fast. By midnight, there will be heavy rain over N.Ireland, Wales and SW England with southerly gales. Heavier pulses move along the English Channel coastal counties, and also SW Scotland up into Tayside. Temperatures in Scotland and N.Ireland dip to 3C but otherwise it is a mild night with a fresh S wind This rain will be clearing Scotland and SE England and E.Anglia to start Tuesday. Then, we are into blustery showers once more, with the wettest weather continuing for western Scotland. There will be hail and thunder mixed in with the showers, a bit of snow for the Highlands. NE and E.Scotland could see the best of the sunshine in some shelter and also brighter for NE England. The S or SW winds continue to make a windy day, particularly through the Irish Sea The showers ease off a bit overnight, as do the winds for N.Britain. Wednesday many parts will be drier and brighter although western fringes continue with the shower threat and more downpours are likely over Scotland, N.Ireland, Wales and NW England. These showers ease off through the day before the next band of rain arrives from the west on Wednesday night. This rain will be heavy at times and the winds will strengthen again from the South. The eastern Channel around East Anglia could have S gales to start Thursday" http://www.netweather.tv/index.cgi?action=news;storyid=5700;sess=&utm_source=fb&utm_medium=nw&utm_campaign=social
  20. Morning all, Just back from a nice long walk, it's a bit damp (must have been some overnight rain) and breezy here but better than I expected - I can now enjoy a hot shower and sit down guilt free to watch the Ice Hockey final and apart from roasting a leg of lamb at some point later do very little for the rest of the day! Hope you all enjoy a chilled Sunday whatever the weather is like where you are Chris, can I just point out that emptying the vacuum cleaner and measuring the 'dust depth' of it's contents will be a null and void entry...there is a big cobweb in the back corner though if you could remove that please
