  1. Afternoon all, I hope everyone is well - cloudy and much cooler here over the last couple of days but this wasn't unexpected now the HP is gradually drifting away from us, it looks like it might be a while before we see 18’s and 20’s again (the temperature not our ages as most of us will never look or feel that young again lol) but at least any rainfall should be insignificant compared with what we had in the last LP dominated weather - personally it's been a bit busy with work and sorting out Mr P who has not only managed to put his shoulder out (I told him not to pick me up in a 'fireman's lift') but he has lost his glasses too - so my 'spare time' has been taken up with getting him to Doctors and Opticians apportionments - he's on a 12 hour shift today which will be interesting as he can only manage 'light duties' but paperwork is not an option as he can't really read anything or see the computer, oh well someone has to make the tea I suppose
  2. Oops ... and they say worse things happen at sea how much worse can it be than getting your million pound luxury yacht stuck under a bridge on the Thames in front of hundreds of people (Strong currents were blamed for the watery fail as the river tide came in quickly and the water levels rose by up to 7ft.)
  3. Strawberries in the Sunshine - Day 2 #100daysofhappiness Sitting in the garden after having had a lovely walk this morning :-)
  4. A beautiful sunny day :-) Boffins at Justus Liebig University in Giessen, Germany, say there is a 75 per cent chance that this summer will be a scorcher, with Britain set for an El Niño weather pattern, That means waters on the Pacific equator rise higher than usual, leading to hotter temperatures here. It is even possible 2003’s record of 38.5C in Faversham, Kent, may fall. http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/uk-weather-hottest-summer-ever-3248404
  5. I'm really sorry to hear that some of you are going through such sad and horrible things at the moment - as a few of you who know me better than others on here are aware although I'm generally a happy go lucky person I've had some very difficult personal issues to deal with myself in the last year or so and it's not always been easy to keep positive and cheerful but I'm determined to make this year a really happy one! We are all guilty of letting things get to us or get us down and sometimes we need to look at life differently to find something to make us smile ...so I've seen quite a few people do this and I think it's a great idea so I'm going to try and post a photo of something that has made me happy during the day everyday for the next 100 days. . . so #DayOne #100daysofhappiness : I'm using Facebook for mine and if you want to join me here is the link .... We live in times when super-busy schedules have become something to boast about. While the speed of life increases, there is less and less time to enjoy the moment that you are in. The ability to appreciate the moment, the environment and yourself in it, is the base for the bridge towards long term happiness of any human being. 71% of people tried to complete this challenge, but failed quoting lack of time as the main reason. These people simply did not have time to be happy. Do you? http://100happydays.com/
  6. What a super afternoon for a walk in the park .... ......two lovely weekends in a row - feeling rather lucky, long may it last
  7. Morning all, Looks like the weekend weather is set to be kind again - just a few hours work for me and then an extended weekend into the early part of next week for Mr P and myself - have a good one peeps we will be out and about enjoying the delights of spring here in MK
  8. Sad news - really sorry you've had to put your second cat down :-( On the subject of pets I'd like to remind dog owners about the risk of Alibama Rot that I mentioned earlier in the week .....http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-26528114...the latest victim was a Jack Russell terrier who picked up the disease in the Salcey Forest area, 7 of the other affected dogs were from the New Forest area, cases have also been confirmed in Yorkshire, Monmouthshire, Dorset, Shropshire and Surrey.
  9. Today's maximum temperatures... - No POETS day for me but at least it's sunny and warmed up nicely
  10. Congratulations "CK was awarded a gold star for achieving 95% 'weather related chat' in a post "
  11. Morning all, Another chilly and foggy start here in MK this morning….the Fog is less dense and shallower than the same time yesterday – the sun is working hard behind the scenes and visibility improving as I type ! Happy POETS day
  12. It’s foggy again – it seems patchier and not as dense here in this part of MK as last night but please all take extra care on the roads first thing…… Allow extra time for your journey so that you can drive as slow as is necessary to be safe, leave extra space between you and the vehicle in front of you, and of course use your headlights and if necessary your fog lights to ensure you can be seen by others. Similarly if you're cycling please do make sure you have adequate lights for your bike and wear hi-visibility clothing to help drivers to see you.... http://www.theaa.com/motoring_advice/seasonal/driving-in-fog.html
  13. Emergency services were called at 19:45 tonight to reports of a helicopter crash near Beccles The East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust (EEAST) was called at 19:45 tonight (March 13) to reports of a helicopter crash in Norfolk. A EEAST spokesperson said: “Sadly, it is believed that four people in the helicopter are believed to have died in the crash. Ambulance resources have now been stood down from the scene. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of those who have lost their lives tonight.†EEAST sent a number of resources to the incident including two ambulance officers, three ambulances, two doctors and one rapid response car. Statement: http://www.eastamb.nhs.uk/incidents/Helicopter-crash-in-Norfolk.htm … #norfolk #gillingham 10:07 PM - 13 Mar 2014 The helicopter came down in thick fog (although there is nothing official to say that was the cause of the crash) This picture from the scene shows just how difficult the conditions on the Norfolk/Suffolk border were tonight. Thoughts are with the family and friends of those who have lost their lives tonight
  14. Apologies if this video has already been posted but I thought this was brilliant Drone Flies into an Active Volcano… This unique footage is only possible because of recent advances in drone technology. A manned helicopter could never get this close to an active volcano, with lava pouring out of vents at temperatures up to 2,192°F (1,200°C). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-shWVW1UBc#t=64 http://www.dronehire.org/blog/drone-flies-into-an-active-volcano
  15. Afternoon all, The fog cleared quite quickly here as I hoped it would - morning coffee turned in to a leisurely stroll and lunch outside - all rather lovely What we had here in MK is Radiation fog which happens when the cooling of land overnight by thermal radiation cools the air close to the surface, this reduces the ability of the air to hold moisture allowing condensation and fog to occur. The official Met Office definition of fog is a visibility of less than 1,000 m. This limit is appropriate for aviation purposes, but for the general public and motorists an upper limit of 200 m is more realistic. Severe disruption to transport occurs when the visibility falls below 50 m. Useful labels for these three categories are aviation fog, thick fog and dense fog – you can read more about fog at http://bit.ly/1fz6sHn It might not be ‘Pea Soup’ or even green but a warning for Yellow fog is in place for tomorrow for the following areas: Yellow warning of FOG – London & South East: Isle of Wight, Hampshire, West Sussex, Portsmouth, Southampton, Brighton and Hove, East Sussex, Surrey, West Berkshire, Oxfordshire, Reading, Wokingham, Bracknell Forest, Buckinghamshire, Windsor and Maidenhead, Slough, Greater London, Milton Keynes, Kent, Medway Yellow warning of FOG – East Anglia: Hertfordshire, Central Bedfordshire, Bedford, Luton, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Peterborough, Thurrock, Norfolk, Suffolk, Southend-on-Sea Fog is expected to become widespread and locally dense again through Thursday night and Friday morning. Visibility is likely to fall below 100 metres at times, locally less than 50 metres. The public should be aware of the likelihood of difficult driving conditions and some travel disruption. Issued at: 1041 on Thu 13 Mar 2014 Valid from: 0100 on Fri 14 Mar 2014 Valid to: 1100 on Fri 14 Mar 2014 Thursday morning's fog, having cleared inland, will have persisted through much of the day in some coastal locations and may begin to spread inland again quite early on Thursday evening. However, across most inland areas fog patches will form more widely overnight into Friday morning. As was the case on Thursday, not everywhere in the yellow area will see fog, but where it does form it is likely to be dense. Fog will then slowly clear through the mid morning period. http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/warnings/#?tab=warnings&map=Warnings&zoom=5&lon=-3.50&lat=55.50&fcTime=1394755200&regionName=uk

  21. Morning all, A chilly and grey start here in MK this morning with some misty patches this should gradually thin, burn and disperse allowing some sunshine to break-through. The high pressure is just that little more central and that little bit stronger than yesterday which will help to encourage a more rapid and widespread chance of some sunnier and brighter breaks. With temperatures improving as we progress through the day and sunshine breaking through it shouldn't feel too bad when the sun gets to work later ! There have been some data problems on the NW local forecasts this morning, so don't freak out if your forecast is showing -20c for tomorrow! The technical department are aware of this and are working on fixing it now so things should be back to normal soon.. Enjoy today, at least it's another dry and settled one :-)
