  1. I was just thinking the same as it's only just got dark here....(as well as wondering what take-away to get this evening) After the relentless wind, rain and misery of the flooding perhaps the Aurora Borealis lighting up the skies of Britain and Ireland this week were a positive sign that weather is going to change to something a bit more Spring like now. Here are my favourite two of the many amazing photos of the ‘Northern Lights’ that were posted on Facebook this week (one of which is my new screen saver after I realised I still had my autumn leaves which were waiting to be changed into something cold, white and fluffy) The good news is that there are signs of some more settled weather now, it looks like high pressure will begin to build from the south from around Wednesday onwards, so hopefully a drier and more settled spell of weather coming up for next weekend (perfect timing for my weekend away in the Cotswolds), this is some way off yet but, by next Friday we could be looking at temperatures as high as those in the right image with high pressure well established over the UK, as shown on the right left image. Overall though it does look a positive outlook for those who are sick and tired of the relentless wind and rain that has been an almost constant feature of the winter we that can now wave goodbye to so on that note I think we will wave bye bye to this thread at bit early and I'll open a new season one ..... 6. Hi SJ - I noticed that as well and also the surface water on the grid roads - just come back via CMK and the road conditions were really bad !
  7. Certainly not 8 inches but some 'sloppy accumulations' on the Brecon Beacons..... http://www.beacons-npa.gov.uk/pages/livewebcams
  8. I wish, just more splodgey rain here not even any sloppy accumulations has anyone in this region actually seen any sleet/wet snow today? This was always going to be very marginal and isolated stuff with most places seeing rain and the highest risk of anything wintry being over hills - I did see some photos of snow on the Brecon Beacons this morning but you would expect it there ! There may be the chance to see the Northern Lights again tonight so it may be worth following this.... https://twitter.com/aurorawatchuk ….there will be more cloud across south east England and East Anglia tonight though so I would think it unlikely ! It would be nice to get something dry and warmer for next weekend; Mr P and I are going awa to the Cotswolds for a romantic break (I think that’s the correct term for a ‘clean’ weekend)
  9. I'm getting pretty fed up with all this dull, overcast and wet weather now – it’s rained on and off throughout the morning here with occasional splodgey bits at times in the heavier bursts of rain.
  10. An impressive image from Severe Weather Europe of the low pressure system affecting southern areas.....
  11. Morning all, and happy last day of the Metrological winter Some Rain, sleet and even snow on the radar swirling round the low pressure in the Channel earlier but a predictable non event here. Last nights frost has been replaced by rain but no evidence of snow, expecting precipitation of some sort most of today. Well done to those of you who managed to see the Northern Lights in Essex and Norfolk last night....who would have thought that was possible !! http://news.sky.com/story/1218656/northern-lights-aurora-borealis-illuminate-uk

  13. Anyone seeing anything? Would be great to see some photos !Image from Louth Weather showing where the Aurora (Northern Lights) are most visible tonight if there are some decent cloud breaks of course!Apparently there is a good aurora visible at the moment, at least as far south as Essex. Get out and have a look!
  14. Wakey wakey Jax lol I'm sure what weather you missed but "the weather that stole Christmas " was on channel 5 !!
  15. So is anyone even going to bother lamppost watching ? I really cannot see what all the hype in the press is about but then we all know forecasting snow can be a very delicate issue and it can easily fool the best forecasters at times. I certainly don't expect to see much by way of snow here so no ramping from me ....
  16. This blog entry highlights some of the scaremongering headlines and rubbish weather forecasts which have been printed this winter ....... http://weatherman79.wordpress.com/2014/02/27/gutter-express
  17. Just had a hail shower here in MK it came out of the blue (well out of a big black cloud actually) I didn't see it coming - just goes to show we can get white stuff falling when we least expect it :-)
