Morning all,
Well it must have rained or something here last night as there are puddles this morning but I didn't see or hear anything !
Shame about the weather for the weekend but have a nice one anyway folks
-
Morning all !Stunning morning here...blue sky, sunshine and thick white frost..I feel a bit guilty for sleeping in but I'm certainly going to get up and off out now while it's still like this...can we cancel the rain and just keep this weather for the weekend please
-
-1.5 °C here and thick frost....also time for bed, night night
-
any advance on that?
YES!!
15 inches wide and 8 inches thick......
The world’s largest snowflake was reportedly 15 inches wide and 8 inches thick. However, this record seems to be based on the word of a ranch owner named Matt Coleman, who described the snowflake as “larger than milk pansâ€
This record seems a bit dubious, as the National Snow & Ice Data Center notes in its FAQ on how big snowflakes can get:
“Snowflakes are agglomerates of many snow crystals. Most snowflakes are less than one-half inch across. Under certain conditions, usually requiring near-freezing temperatures, light winds, and unstable, convective atmospheric conditions, much larger and irregular flakes close to two inches across in the longest dimension can form. No routine measure of snowflake dimensions are taken, so the exact answer is not known.â€

Yellow Warning of Snow for East of England :
Norfolk & Suffolk
Snow showers will continue to affect parts of northern and eastern Scotland and eastern coastal areas of England on Wednesday night and into Thursday morning. Localised accumulations of snow become more likely as temperatures fall on Wednesday evening, with 1-2cm possible in places at low-level, and perhaps 2-5cm on some higher ground. Icy stretches may also develop on some roads and pavements.
Issued at:
1130 on Wed 13 Mar 2013
Valid from:
1800 on Wed 13 Mar 2013
Valid to:
0900 on Thu 14 Mar 2013
Cold northerly winds will continue to feed wintry showers in across windward coasts during the rest of Wednesday and into early Thursday. Snow accumulations by day should be slight and very temporary, though falling temperatures overnight mean that icy patches and some accumulations of a few cm are possible. Many of the showers across Scotland will clear soon after midnight, though the risk of residual icy patches remains into Thursday morning.

It goes without saying that where there is snow that has thawed today it will refreeze tonight but I'll say it anyway and here is a Met O warning for ICE for those areas ...
Yellow Warning of Ice for London & South East England :
Kent, East Sussex, Medway, Surrey, West Sussex & Greater London
Yellow Warning of Ice for East of England :
Essex, Norfolk, Suffolk, Southend-on-Sea, Thurrock, Cambridgeshire, Peterborough & Hertfordshire
Wintry showers will affect some southeastern and eastern areas of England overnight, and in combination with a widespread frost and partly melted snow in some areas, icy stretches are likely to become a hazard, primarily for untreated surfaces. Snowfall will be mostly restricted to a dusting here and there, but a few places could see a couple of centimeters.
The public should be aware of the potential for disruption, especially to travel.
Valid from:
2000 on Tue 12 Mar 2013
Valid to:
1000 on Wed 13 Mar 2013
A further burst of cold air, this time from the north, will bring sleet, snow and hail showers, some of them heavy, but with patchy ice expected to be a greater concern in these areas.

Amber Warning of Snow for London & South East England :
West Sussex, East Sussex, Brighton and Hove & Kent
Snow is expected to continue through this evening and overnight. Up to 10cm may accumulate by Tuesday morning.
The public should be aware of the potential for significant disruption.

A frontal zone remains slow-moving in the English Channel. This will continue to produce snow overnight, merging with the snow showers streaming into southeast England from the North Sea. Now that road temperatures are more widely below freezing, the snow will settle more readily than was the case during the daytime. However, there is still some uncertainty over the northward extent of the more persistent snowfall and the public are advised to keep in touch with the forecast.

Some of the heaviest snow I've seen for a long while, reminiscent of the April 2008 batch we got in Eastbourne. Going to brave the roads in a short while, just been told the main ones are OK, but the side roads are lairy!!
Well you take care then, and everyone else who is out and about tonight and tomorrow !
My new car got christened with a lovely snow flurry as I drove her out of the garage earlier....I just need to keep off the icy roads now in case someone decides to re model her for me

Even those of us without significant snow have a Met O warning now....for yellow ice ...
Yellow Warning of Ice for London & South East England :
Buckinghamshire, Milton Keynes & Oxfordshire
Yellow Warning of Ice for East of England :
Cambridgeshire, Bedford, Norfolk & Peterborough
Snow showers will continue this evening before slowly becoming lighter and more isolated overnight. A further 1-3cm is likely in places whilst icy stretches are likely on untreated surfaces where snow melts and re-freezes.
The public should be aware of the potential for some localised travel disruption.

Snow showers have struggled to settle on roads during the daytime but as road temperatures fall this evening settling will take place more readily, although the frequency and intensity of snow showers will tend to reduce. Ice will form on untreated roads and pavements that have been left wet by melted snow from the daytime.

Hi everyone, any chance of seeing anything wintry as far inland as Bucks this week?
Intensely jealous of you lot further South!
That wind brought tears to my eyes and then froze my eyelids open!
Hi doofus, where in Bucks are you ?
Can you please put your location in your profile.....you can do this by clicking on your profile (top right hand corner), then clicking "edit profile" add your location and save - thanks
Agree with you on the windchill it's colder here than on a tin toilet seat on the shady side of a iceberg!

I've visited BH quite a few times and wouldn't say it's that bad
It's blowing upwards outside my office window now!!!!
