First few flakes of the showers now reaching us in West Yorks.
PLEASE put where you are from in your information as "snowing like mad here now" does nothing for anyone unless we know where you are! - PLEASE HELP ME HERE MODS Thanks
Your info bar has been reduced!

Beginning to look like it may clear from here but the showers are moving quicky behind the band so it maybe only a short repreive.
Of course if we have a strong wind which whips the snow up we may never whether it's snowing fresh snow or not.
Hi TP,
The snow cleared mid arvo here and i have been watching the showers peppering the north sea coast ever since. For my location they seem to be getting ever closer but it has been a bit of a wait since. From my days, many moons ago, working in Weather Watchers Scotland i seem to remember that around a system you get Descending air which squashes the shower development until it is far enough away. My feelibng is that as the systm slips south then the showers will make their way further across the country and this together with a secondary trough slipping south through the borders should give us in West Yorks and possably South Yorks a ffurther top up overnight. Thats what i reckon anyway
Good luck
Ned
EDIT Perhaps John H Could put a little meat on the bones of the Descending air idea and the prospects for any showers making it over to the Pennines tonight - Thanks

Them showers pushing into N yorkshire become embedded in the flow of the LP system, so they will pivot too..
Lewis
Hope they do/wish they would. We are just about on the northern extent of the main band ATM but there are some pretty nice looking showers moving sw through Darlington and also in the North Sea which would spice things up nicely if they came into play

Snowing Mod to Heavy here now
-
Using this at the moment myself http://www.raintoday.co.uk/
-
Looking at the latest radar, there are some pretty beefy showers developing to the North West ATM. Should imagine we or somewhere pretty near here will get trounced within the hour
-
Net Weather Extra's NMM for the same time looks fine to me - mainly snow for most as the front moves south - perhaps a wintery mix or rain right on the coast until later tomorrow morning, but don't really see a problem to be honest, unless I'm missing something.
I think it is a bug, or they forgot to turn the pink on for that one frame.... The north of the BI and much of Scotland as well as large parts of England are covered in snow for the preceding frame and the following one too... Wouldn't worry, it is a glitch!

At least with the 12z gfs we are starting to get some consistency between it and the 00 ECM up to the 144h sort of range.
-
3.0 on the nose for me please
-
Morning folks!
Driving to the in-laws in coventry within the hour or so, so i guess i'll be an honorary West Midlands snow spotter for a few days
Wondered if there were any reports of snow en route from South Yorks to Cov atm. ?
Good luck to all for a good pasting later on
Ned
PS - quite like this free radar for snow spotting http://www.raintoday.co.uk/

Looks like the ECM is still keen on its previous idea of dropping a trough down into scandi/north sea around 168 bringing in a northwesterly and hopefully northeasterly later on

Ill drop you a PM in a sec mate, btw just noticed your avatar says keighly, i use to play that team regularly in the yorkshire cup etc, i played for East Hull.
Lewis
Rugby League man eh? Well done!
Off to feed the ducks up on Keighley moor soon so i'll see if i can find any more big drifts!
-
Any chance i can put that upside down 4x4 on my pics of the week on my site mate?
Unbelievable! Fantastic pictures, especially the one with the snow drifting.
Lewis
Yup, no problem mate! They are only mobile phone pics so the quality aint too good. Send me the link!
I could send you the files if you wanted. There's a few more too.

well, good morning everyone!
either the equipment's broken, or we're in the middle of a nice mild spell
Temps here never got lower than the current 0.7ºc, so the temps are dropping as the sun comes up
DP is -3.58ºc
One thing I noticed is the winds were mostly from the west, and mostly between 8 and 12mph gusts, highest gust 17.4mph at about 12.20am
So, not the crisp morning most peeps are waking to. not much, if any, frost to clear on the car either!
Maybe your thermometer is upside down
Few snaps from my trip to take my son to nursery in Oxenhope this morning. Someone decided to park their 4x4 on a tree in the blizzard last night. Goes to show that it’s not what you drive but how you drive it as my golf did fine
-
aww that be a bonus! just watched latest bbc forecast and they are confident it will be snow over most of yorkshire with heaviest southyorkire area!!!
Get the loop going on here http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/satpics/latest_uk_ir.html and you can see it working it's way south night!
Ha ha, just seen too that you joined Netweather the day after i did! We been waitin for this winter my friend
-
so your saying doncaster might have a top up?
The way things are working then, yes, i wouldn't be suprised... Check out the radar and the sats, things are heading south. We have intermittent mod snow showers now!
-
WOW, just had a great snowstorm... Not put down that much (maybe one to two inch) but its blowing it about big style... Looking at the radar the shower seemed to move from NE to SW - against the wind, suspect it were on the sheer point of this trough moving south. Which looks to be still to the north of us. HAPPY DAYS.... Look out south Yorks !
EDIT - look on here just south of Keighley http://www.raintoday.co.uk/ you can still see the wind sheer!
-
Looks like the world famous Blackpool snow streamer has set up - slap bang over my house
-
Looks like the 06 gfs is falling in line with the Euro's then. Not quite all the way yet but a massive step in the right direction in my book.
TBH i can see the slight warm up getting squeezed from here on in
-
Temp now down to 0.7c, those showers seem to be getting a little better off the west coast!
There seems to be a more organised trough swinging down the west atm. Looks to be just bocing south into ulster and Dumfries and Galloway. Lets see if we get anything from it shall we ?
-
I agree, seems very odd, is there any fog in the area, that would seem to be the only potential explanation?
A similar thing happened at Bingley yesterday morning. The temp was rising from about -2.7 to -2.3 then at ten o'clock it went back down to below -3

Early frames of the ECM seems to want to throw off shortwaves from tghe main low it the western Atlantic - under the block ... Looks like it may be making one last grab for retrogression at 120h
