How can such potentially disruptive weather be dubbed a 'downgrade'??? Cripes! (Ah - edit - unless you mean re snow? In which case there hadn't yet even been an 'upgrade'...!?)
-
3.5c here and all gone by tonight at this rate.

A 47 yr old big kid me....... and could I respectfully ask some posters to stop with all the doom and gloom its Friday and I have a nice weekend to look forward to and hopefully some snow too. Personally I don't care whether its 5cms or 50cms after the dross we had to endure around Xmas! :cold:
-
Your on a cold weather forum so yes! I know what you mean but we want snow and we don't have the ability to wait til Sat/Sun!
Not wanting to sound pedantic AM but actually this is a weather forum cold, hot or anything in between but I know what you mean.

Hi can someone answer a question for me please?
For a streamer to affect us on the North East coast (Herne Bay,Whitstable) what would it be called ?and or would we just be relying on the channel/lower north sea to give us some form of streamer?
That would be the kent streamer...... fair chance you'll see one later this week.
-
So just generally speaking when streamers do happen how far do they N W and S do they usually reach?
Can go pretty far, both the Feb 2009 and December 2009 give 10cm+ in Brighton and as far west as portsmouth.
Given the right conditions they can reach as far west as bristol, but on the flip side they can also fizzle out a couple of miles inland.

Im a newbie here ,trying to keep up with the lingo,im just north of London would the Thames streamer wollop me,trying to look at charts and maps, but getting so lost here.
Hi SJ if there is a Thames streamer you could be in the firing line........ but these are nowcasting situations and you won't know til much closer to the time.
Hope that helps. :winky:

See now I keep hearing they will get mild for the weekend, is that just a blip then?
Anything beyond 72-96 hrs is virtuallly FI so talk of it getting milder by the weekend is a little bit premature........ but anything could happen and there probably will be changes by then.

i am thinking or infact expecting some convection to develop over the days as the severe cold sets in, its a flow that overtime will bring snow showers.
Yep agree with you there ESS I would be a little disappointed if we didn't.
-
What about this?
Jussila in finland check out the pressure!
-
And not forgeting one our local weather men Steve M in Bexleyheath. Good to be back guys hers hoping the west don't get all our snow lol
If we get our North sea snow making machine up and running SQ we won't have to worry about the west, we'll have enough of our own!

http://www.wetterzen..._London_ens.png
there are some very cold runs on here
remember last night
people were saying winter is over etc
these are amazing
Agree with that JP it's not the done deal but it would take a massive backtrack to not get an easterly and some very cold uppers over us.
I am going to pop into this regional thread as well as the east anglia one - chelmsford essex
Your very welcome in here shivering feel free to pop in whenever you want.

JP mentioned Thames Streamer earlier on. This will most probably occur as the convection from the North Sea in my opinion is going to open the flood gates to snow, snow and play it again Sam Snow I fully expect the models NOT to show the true Upper Temps. Trust me on this, we WILL get much colder Upper Temps than what the models are showing. This is one of the reasons why the MetO boys & girls are jumping around with excitement in Exeter :cold: :cold:
As much as I want to agree Yamkin we may have to wait a little longer as the easterly flow is quite slack to start with, depending which model you believe has got the pattern right. That's not to say we won't get one at some stage.
There's nothing like a bit of north sea snow convection!
-
And after viewing some of the model runs today it could get seriously cold by next week :cold: :cold: and with a little tweak here and there very snowy too.
Fingers crossed.
Normal caveats apply of course

Hi everyone, good to be back and the fact we are back means its hopefully getting COLD!!!!!
-
102 mph gust at Glen ogle...............
Stay safe everyone!
-
where does it say 130 winds ? i can only find gusts of 80 max
130 kph = 80 mph
-
Islay 97 mph
-
Quite, but most of this was over the coast of France, now were at a transition with water again and more may happen.
It will go one of two ways.......... its make your mind up time.
I must be honest and I don't want to be the party pooper but I feel it may well disappear into the abyss they call the English channel like so many storms before it!
-
im telling you, its looking good at the mo! note i said at the moment!! its heading straight for the south east if it stays on this course! im not going anywhere right now! lol!
I'm not saying a word...... I don't want to put the mockers on it.

This Cell on the frontal system is the one of interest for me.
Worth keeping an eye on Adi.

Dog has started acting strange now.... Never seen her like this before
My missus has started to act strange too....... Mind you she's been acting like that for years tho! EDIT Right forearm smash to side of head, must remember to check rooms clear before making such comments....OUCH!!

Am I talking to myself, or just imaging things??
Am I clutching straws, but Im sure its moving more northward.... Well not moving northward, but spreading northward
The circles I keep in the same place for both images, and delay of about an hour
SB I have been studying three different radars over the last hour or two (Sad I know) and to be honest I think its tracking a little more NE than what you are showing in your diagram....... Happy to be proved wrong though!
-
omg this is intense!!!! i only have one fag left!!! lol!!
Their not good for you anyway Loopy!

I'm sure Nick S mentioned the NOAA binning the 06z which I believe runs with similar data to the 18z ( no balloon data ), that's not to say they will do the same again but they must have some reservations about the output.
Then again they may be as much in the dark as us!
Edit.... Nick beat me to it.
