I will of course continue to look at the models but for someone like me who enjoys warm weather in summer and cold and snow in winter my interest is beginning to drain away - for those who proclaim the unpredictabilty of the British climate i would suggest the complete opposite is now the norm.Generally speaking Greenland is home to low pressure in winter and high pressure in summer, for someone like me with my outlined preference thats a disasterous combo..
Totally agree NWS every time we get an Easterly in summer I'm always thinking why now, and you can almost guarantee that the Azores or Euro highs disappears from our shores once winter ends... so frustrating.

Boat teams deployed
Jaywick & Maldon05/12/2013 @ 23:30Incident Number: 000000000
Ten boat teams have been deployed in Jaywick, alongside Gloucestershire and Hereford and Worcester fire crews, ECFRS' own Urban Search and Rescue teams and Police support. They are in position in readiness for storm water breaching sea defences.
Ten appliances are in Maldon to assist Police and military in evacuating homes there after severe flood warnings were declared in that part of the County earlier this evening. And in Manningtree, fire crews are working alongside Police and Ambulance teams evacuating residents.
At 23:56 hrs, crews in Jaywick report that the sea wall has been breached in Hillman Avenue. And in Mill Street by 00:09 hrs water was also coming over the defences.

Flooding now in Broadstairs too.... much earlier than expected, and the Medway tunnel closed as a precaution.
-
Now Manningtree's turn......
-
Really???? Sorry... need to remind myself we've only lived in chatham for 3 years and really dont know the surrounding areas well...
No probs
-
Good to take extra precaution but cant see flooding around certain places of Medway. I wouldn't evacuate. I'm concerned about east anglia/ essex coasts and portsmouth . Take care peeps xx
Don't forget Medway includes the Hoo peninsula.... and there is a lot of low lying/marshland around there.
Trust me I used to live out on Grain...... for my sins!
-
Flooding in Ipswich now.... primarily around the dock areas.
-
Parts of Medway being evacuated now. I can't post link as am on phone but there is a link from Medway Council on South East and East Anglian thread.
Here it is...... http://www.medway.gov.uk/information/newspages/news/floodwarning.aspx
Edit....... snap lol.

It also strikes me as being a massive waste of licence payers' money as the BBC have clearly already despatched reporters all along the East Coast and now will be virtually standing them down in some instances. I've complained too - not that it will get me anywhere - but why they had to drop the live feed on their main website beggars belief.
You still have live updates on the news website though....
Have copied this from Essex County F&R,

sounds like Gravesend on any given day particularly the no snow bit, no Police sirens but plenty of crime LOL
And no prospect of snow tonight...... +2.7 and a dew point of -0.2 It was hovering around freezing at 6pm..... oh well roll on the next cold spell whenever that may be.
-
Evening everyone, havn't been on today and only just remembered the snow depth cup........ 7.6mm for me Tom. Sorry about posting late.
-
I've been pondering this also. I think the last time was January 2003. I lived in north-west London at the time and I seem to remember very heavy snow on about the 30th, leaving about 10cms. A couple of days later a front came down from the north, but it was a very weak affair and gave a dusting at the most. What I vividly remember is the BBC getting the forecast utterly wrong. For the very heavy snow on the 30th they forecast light snow showers, and then they ramped up the front a few days later, only for it to be a damp squib.
I spent forty years in London and it is rare..... You may well be right with 2003 but I cannot recall it that well.

Fellow Gooner poor result today mate
Could see it coming tho....... poor first half. They better pick themselves up Wednesday against wet spam, I won't be a happy bunny getting freezing cold for another inept performance.
-
Just had a little look at my lamp post and there are still a few tiny flakes falling........
-
Typical sore loser gooner lol (mind the gap)
Haha..... remember last season? lol
Snow's easing right up now...... edit: Starting to get heavier again.
-
Pepped up quite a bit in the last half an hour........
-
Pitch inspection underway at White Hart Lane....
And unfortunately they have discovered that it still exists! Sorry a bit of bitter rivalry coming out there!

Hi all,
Just a quickie from work, those of you in the snow depth challenge cup, could you please post your depths in cms at around 6 p.m please. Doesnt have to be 6 on the dot, as I'm not in from work until about 6.45 but it will be interesting to see how the match-ups stand, at roughly the half-way point. If you can measure on concrete, all the better but don't worry too much, its just a bit of fun!
Any match-ups between E and W members look delicately poised, yesterday gave the west of our region a fair crack of the whip, yesterday evening the situation improved for some parts of Essex and Kent. Tomorrow again looks to favour the east but will it become marginal in the east? Have got an idea if snow depths are level at the end of the competition at 09.00 Monday, which I'll put to you this evening.
Will post half/time scores later.
Cheers,
Tom.
Its not looking good for me in the snow depth cup....... I measured one of the few patches remaining and have a huge 2mm! If I'm leading shunter at halftime, my gob will be well and truly smacked.
-
So in the snow depth cup i'm up against shunter........ nothing like a bit of local rivalry. I think he's the favourite......... though it will be a close run thing.
-1.1 and a few small grains blowing in the wind.

Its called reality, rather than hoping something will happen and saying it will i choose to actually put facts together and come up with a factual answer
Its not hard
Just likeyday when some were saying 'expect upgrades yay' and getting hopes up of those on the forum i asked for some reality and to actually look at what was happening and would you know it, look what happened, nothing....
Now where's that ignore button again?

Good night John & here are my current thoughts re Monday pm :
1. Westward correction as proven time after time in the past.
2. First batch of snowfall that hits and settles aids temperatures and decreases the margin for things to go wrong.
3. Possible slowing of second front timing is quite crucial i.e the more delayed the better into nightfall.
I think that could well be the MO take on things......... But it is the same problem we have had for a week now, more runs needed before we know which way it will go.

Two edits on that last post, must be getting tired. Goodnight all.
