Great to see reports coming in - I thought there was little chance today, some lovely cloud formations around here with good sunshine so a day to be out and about to appreciate it
-
Ok then this morning was quite interesting, had a potent cell move thew around 6:30 - 7:00, it produced a heavy shower and a rumble of thunder but also it produced a funnel cloud. I went out along the seafront to have another look at it as it had a lot of strange movement on it. When I went along the seafront there was CB to our east and to our North, infact there was all around us. These 2 particular CB's to my east and North had alot of rotation on them and was green underneath especially the one to our east in sandown bay in the sea, this one particular cell had perfect looking funnel hanging of the edge of the cloud and came down a good half way, now i wish i had my camera but it looked impressive Also to our N the cell had produced a couple more funnels but very weak. We had quite a few heavy showers threw out the morning but not to the same intensity as the ones this morning with the funnels and rumble of thunder etc.
I saw that storm as I was driving out of Portsmouth to work but didn't hear any thunder. I'm in Southampton working and there's just a load of grey mess, was feeling positive this morning but not so much now as this cloud isn't going to shift anywhere fast!

Just watched the latest BBC forecast and the T word wasn't mentioned at all so I'm off to bed as watching this dire drizzle on the radar is like watching paint dry. The Paris webcam is fabulous though, what a difference a few (not literally though!) miles make!
-
Radar still looks like going from east to west rather than veering north at the moment so I'm off for some shut eye. Think this is a case of close but not close enough lol.
-
Ok I cant take this any longer. Brighton here I come...
At the very least you should see some good lightning, drive safely and I don't blame you, you only live once and I've seen more lightning this year than I have in the last 5 so why not make the most of it
-
If I hadn't a glass of vino or 3 I'd definitely be heading towards the beach, the lightning although not more frequent is getting more intense (no fork just elevated) - no thunder and the cat is on the window sill watching it with me now but she won't go outside bless her
-
maybe this is going to be kick ass storm of the year for us????
How cool if it was!! The cat is seriously spooked by something, shot in the back door and keeps growling at the back door - had a look but can't see anything other than the flashes lol
-
Can Report elevated lightning around E/ SE direction!
Hi, yep I'm seeing that too in the garden with the occasional flash seeming closer than others. Wind has died down as well here.
-
Just been out the back garden and keep seeing distant flashes (thought it was next door's TV at first but it wasn't! ). So I suppose it's the distant lightning from that stuff in the channel!!
There is a lot of lightning out in the channel to my east, ESE, and SE some of it on my track atm
Hey!! We posted at around the same time! Glad you can see it which explains why I can too
-
Weird thing is that if I stick my head out the window, I can see broken cloud with stars peeping through the gaps, but feel light rain in the wind...
That's what I love about the weather, it can be so random at times! It's soooooooo humid here even with all windows open, even the cats are sprawled outside on the grass trying to get cool when they're usually in at this time. Stuff in France/channel seems to be intensifying or is it me? Thing is, will it reach our shores as it seems to be going east to west? Need to go to bed and stop watching the damned radar!!
-
It really feels like weve been cheated to see torrential cells/showers fire up in the South with no thundery element and the same for the rest of the UK tonight. Not ruled out completely but very only a low risk tonight.
I know what you mean, it reached nearly 28 degrees today and it's so hot with all the windows open even now. Seems a shame that we'll get cooler rainy weather tomorrow but with only a very low risk of any accompanying thunder for the 'breakdown'.

Got back from the Algarve in Portugal yesterday and we were treated to a fabulous storm last Wednesday, the thunder made the windows vibrate and closed the airport for about 4 hours! Thankfully the other days were lovely and warm! Great timing catching that whilst holidaying!

Hi all, met office have yellow warnings out for quite a few regions issued at 23:03:
Heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected to give 10-20mm quite widely, with up to 30-40mm in a few places. This could fall in a relatively short space of time. Conditions are expected to improve from the south towards dawn on Sunday.
-
Yep, the radar looks pretty good for some of you on the South coast. For those of us farther North, it looks as if we're going to have to be a little bit patient as any potential doesn't look like reaching us until later in the day.
I have to say, though, it's nice to be able to get back to a bit of storm/radar watching.
Anyway, good luck all
Good things come to those who wait as they say and I hope loads of people who haven't seen anything yet will be pleasantly surprised later in the day!!
-
Morning guys, I think some people are in for real treats today particularly further north/west where the shear will be greatest - met monkey website has a new map, it makes the storms we've been having on the south coast look like babies lol
-
Sounds good, its looking fairly good along the south coast at the moment, sleep well lol
Thanks! I've been so excited like a little kid, right I really must go!
-
Just been woken up by some impressive fork lightning and thunder - quite long gaps inbetween though so back to sleep now!
Edit - just looked at the radar and perhaps more to come fairly soon so definitely need to grab some sleep while I can!!
-
Hello all, just got back from sitting on the beach watching the storm come in from the channel - amazing lightning show finished off with a healthy dose of large rain drops and cracking thunder. What a night especially as we thought we might be just that bit too far east!!
-
Can see the towering clouds behind a darkening sky, anyone who is around where I am see this too? South West Direction... Looks fantastic!
Hi, just been up to the third floor and can confirm there are some beautiful towering clouds to the south west - amazing! My step son (nearly 13) is very excited too bless him and insists on having storm chasers on in the background
-
'will it thunder' can **** off. only 35% chance of something in the next few days.
GAHHHHHHHHHHHH...
:(
:(
I think we'll get some rain - not sure about thunder as there appears to be mixed messages on the weather forecasts and met office website doesn't mention thunder for London and south east at all but you never know! Really hope so though!
-
Met Office website for South and South East region says for this evening/overnight there's still the risk of a few showers over southern counties, perhaps thundery for a time and there's a lightning symbol for the IOW but it's for 1 am. Looks like we'll get some rain at the very least which isn't a bad thing.
-
hi all
a line of showers showing up along the south coast.
anybody down that way on here
fromey
Hello - I'm in Horndean, about 7 miles inland from Portsmouth - all dry here with patchy cloud at the moment.
-
Sky is like a who's-who of convective cloud types here in Romsey at the moment. Recent light shower of big splodgy drops from one of the more developed towers. Something's going to fire soon I feel!
We have some great cloud formations here too which I didn't expect - thinking about getting in the car and going for a bit of a chase westbound!!
-
We had a nice storm here earlier but I didn't have a surge protector for my laptop so had to turn it off. Some nice thunder and lightning and lots of lovely heavy rain. Just wonderful as I have just planted out a load of plants in the garden and thunderstorm rain brings down nitrogen that is a good fertiliser for them.
Hello! I was thinking about you earlier, I hope you're well! If we can't have snow, storms will do

Raining here in Southampton but no thunder (surprise surprise!)
