Latest BBC News24 weather going with the main band of snow/warnings for the midlands and sleet/rain mix for my neck of the woods...I think the southern extent of this is not nailed by any means yet given recent posts...but come tomorrow we will find out!

Just seen first flash and distant thunder. You may need to come down the A120 a bit. Mind you Braintree always seems to be a degree or so warmer than here and storms often seem to intensify over it, so u may be lucky.
More thunder. Looking juicey on radar now.
Time to jump in the van !!! :-)

I take it that any thundery activity is now done with? I thought the rain/storms were meant to be clearing slowly to the east during the day, but electrical activity looks confined to the North of the region, Thetford/Fakenham at the moment...does anyone know if we are expecting anything else thundery through the day further south...or is it just rain now?

I take it Essex is out of the firing line now? Or are we expecting some later?
-
Are we expecting things to kick off later as everything seems to have moved north of us and is dying off? Still very muggy outside

Indeed, the forecaster, Dan Holley, is a member here - his forum ID is staplehurst.
Didn't realise that ......was just nice to see Dan trying to educate, despite the short time he has available.

SSW being discussed on look east weather this evening (with graphics no less!) and the hint of a possible white Easter....far too early to call as we know but nice to see

I've sat down, smoked a cigarette, had a coffee, taken the time out and done a much more formal analysis of the trajectory of the cells around today,
I have to say, I'm quietly confident.

Yep Tony Gilbert carefully but very accurately just hammered the final nail into the coffin of this plume.
Nada. Again.
One to remember when everyone gets too carried away with it next time. I'm off for a pint and then home.
It was fun for a while at 4pm
The coffin was in the ground the moment the 'H' word slipped from Carols lips this morning

Shirley that sounds like police squad to me!Neither of them, may be Police Squad, not sure.

Is it too early to rename the thread 'Possibly a little bit windy and rainy on Sunday' ! ;-)
Was hoping for something a little better than what is estimated at present....BUT, it's not here yet, and tbh if it does throw a few surprises, which it could given the fact that no main agency has stuck their neck out given the variables even at this short timescale...then all good, if not at least the possibility was there....and we still have the autumnal months for some gale/rain events (as if we didn't get enough last year!!)

Nice line of showers heading my way....just need them to electrify!!
-
Yeah same here...aren't we supposed to be expecting something 2-3am....sort of hoping for a repeat of the last storm which popped up out of thin air Monday early hours :-)
There's a lot of energy there...we need to tap some of that!!Awesome storms... at the other side of the *** channel!

I take it nothing's happening this evening? No fresh posts in the last 2hrs? Has everyone gone to bed?

It'd be interesting to know how much rain fell in Thaxted, during the 1 1/2 hour period centred on 2:30 this morning. The radar returns look pretty unbelievable.
The result was flash flooding and a collapsed road.
I work in Thaxted (live in braintree), most places here took a bit of a pounding this morning, numerous businesses & private dwelling basements flooded, sideroad at the bottom of the high street is completely shut, will need a good bit of work to put that right...the water basically washed it away! One local resident said he has lived here for 70 years and has experienced nothing like this morinng, so it must have been bad! We are at the top of the high street and even our storgage sheds at the back of ours had 3 inches of water in them...files are ruined, thank god for PC back up!
We had a fair bit of heavy and persistant thundery rain in Braintree, but I dont think it was a patch on what they got here.
Are we expecting another batch this evening?

Gonna be one sultry night again, still muggy as hell and looking at the radar no rain or storms this neck of the woods to freshen things up a bit :-(. I thought were supposed to have great li and cape today (not forgetting the level 2 warning) .....am I missing something or are things going to spark off later tonight?
