Really, global means the whole world? ....are you really going there ;-)Don't buy it I'm afraid, coldest/wettest/warmest/windiest etc etc blah blah blah. For millennia the earth has been affected by weather patterns, however we only have a minute fraction of that covered by reliable records of measurement.Global warming is unproven and is a convenient excuse for governments to cream off cash and shift the blame on gw rather than their inadequate infrastructure and investment when things go pear shaped.Weather is cyclical, always has been and always will be IMHO.Sorry to go off topic and chuck in my uniformed two-penneth! Back on topic, I really hope these lows don't come off next week....but I fear it might be back to the old routine for the short term :-( It's probably my old fridge that's caused all this :-)Edit - Sainsbo, fully agree with you re glad of lack of recent rain and drying out time....I don't think it's going to be enough for some sadly.Glad that there hasn't been too much rain down south in the past few days, it's given much needed drying-out time. Hopefully the storms will stay away for a while, too.I think this link may come in handy. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_weather_recordsNote how about 50-60% of countries globally have recorded their hottest temperature on record since 2000.Just because we haven't been basking doesn't mean climate change is bs. It's called "Global warming". It's in the name. It's not all about us!

I think this gust was recorded away from the coast on a very exposed strip, gusts actually on the coast and inland although high are not at that level which is why I think the Met office did not go red on this.Shocking .108 mph on southcoast met office. Wakey wakey .no red warning .sorry 109mph higher than anything on Wednesday .

Lights flickering here now....May not be long before we get a power out

Cheers - Gusts had died down here for 10 mins or so, but about 2mins ago.....really going for it again!I reckon they've peaked here. Had some gusts a couple of hours ago that were so fierce the bedroom window started emitting a high pitched squeal! We're still getting fairly strong winds but nothing like that again. Must admit, I'm a little disappointed *pouts*
Better (I believe) as the low moves north and East it will weakenThis is a midnight analysis I hope it is wrong. http://meteocentre.com/analyses/map.php?lang=en&map=UK&area=eur&size=large If it's right would it make things better or worse?

Looks like it's going to be a long night :-)!Just trying to calm the madhouse down. Hmmm, we are in the roughest period now I believe, could be dawn before things calm down in your neck of the woods I'm afraid.

Storms thread descended into farce, Scottish and welsh posters bashing the southerners for crying about a storm because nobody cares when they get one....(sigh) :-(
Childish nonsense....moderators please tidy the site up!
Sadly people are loosing their life this evening and property is being damaged, I thought NW forums were better that that?
Stay safe all x
EDIT - Gottolovethisweather has sorted it out! Good work! :-)

The answer my friend is......................
How much longer do we think for these winds? Will they stay at this intensity or have they peaked now?

Cheers, I may stay up for a few hours more then....plenty of like minded peeps on here tonight! :-)Ok scary my bedroom windows which are double glazed are rumbling and creaking now and thought I just heard a tree crashing over in the road behind us, the peak will be around midnight to 2am I reckon.

You must be sheltered, gusts really starting to pick up here in BraintreeHad a gust of 20 mph in north london.............
-
Any gusts of note there yet? Brighton update live on BBC N24 looked lively enough!Me too ,I am trying to be patient but I'm reading so many reports of high gusts /torrential rain etc I'm starting to think the South Downs are sheltering me
-
Sky news loosing ob picture and sound, guess why? !!! Laughable :-)
-
Kay loves it!I love Sky News with it's many reporters around the country who are either being blown over or blocking the road with there cameras and saying the same thing over and over again
It's pouring here and the wind is very gusty but only when the rain bands come through, temperature is around 8.6c at the moment and the pressure is still falling.

I think my snow depth cup may need nailing to the patio table tonight! :-)Plague of locusts here in Croydon, just waiting for the first-born next, then we'll have a full house and I can't blame the vino, just a sugar free 7up, we know how to party in this town. Never drink on duty though!Joking aside, stay safe everyone.Tom.

The main rain band has passed through, we are now into the hefty showers stage so as always with this it will be hit and miss with these....get caught in one and it's torrential (as it was in Braintree about 10mins ago and now dry!)As for winds, be careful what you wish for, remember the strongest gusts are not expected for a few hours yet!I love the idea of a really big storm, until I have to chase bits of my shed roof across the park! :-)Stay safe all !Still quiet here .Whats going on ?? No rain or wind
