  1. Seconded. I come here for my weather forecast, as well as the craic. I did scroll down from the links into the model thread, but found it a long way over my head, as indeed were the horses, whatever they may be. Sunny and cold over the weekend would be just fine. Some snow late next week would, of course, be wonderful.
  2. I was watching leaves fall off the two large oaks at the bottom of the garden, wondering how so many could drop given that it was completely windless here today. Then I saw two squirrels leaping about.... Looking forward to seeing the sun tomorrow. Chainsaw day. All very well having a woodburner, but producing your own logs is surprisingly time-consuming. And carrying them up to the house - we're on quite a hillside and it's a couple of hundred feet to the house - makes me realise how old I've (suddenly) become. Who knew?
  3. My business partner in Hurstpierpoint (about 10 miles north of Brighton) reports torrential rain, but nothing electrical as yet. Nothing where I am so far.
  4. "Waning Gibbous" At 9C in the bedroom, I wouldn't be surprised if it is.
  5. I bet you regret not upgrading to the Vic-20. No SLI with the Z61s then, or indeed a graphics card...
  6. -0.8C on the upstairs balcony, 9.1C in the bedroom. No idea downstairs as the weather thingy is playing up and flashing at me. After a hard reset, it's 20.3C in here, and Venusian outside, at 400C but, surprisingly, with 140% humidity. There may be a problem.
  7. 0.6C outside and 9.1C in the bedroom. 19.5C down here. Going up to bed will be a Scott of the Antarctic moment, though I believe it was his underling, Capt Oates who sacrificed himself by walking out of the tent, saying 'I may be some time'. I went camping in Cromer in September (with a friend, as the family are a bit 4* with their holidays), with several lovely late summer days to be enjoyed. The night before our last full day, having enjoyed the deserted sandy beaches of north Norfolk and the hospitality of any pub which served Wherry, we were treated to a splendid storm. The £70 tent held up in the ensuing maelstrom, as we watched fellow campers retreat into their high-rise tents with built-in jacuzzis. Most of our clothing remained dry, apart from what we were wearing and anything which wasn't in a rucksack rated for Category 5 hurricanes. Left early.
  8. Not quite sure why our's didn't. They take it out on the bottom stair carpet where it meets the wood floor. It is quite a bit warmer on the landing or downstairs though, even with no heating and the woodburner about 30ft from my office where I am now, it's 21C in here, and you know what cats are like with heat ! I like a cold bedroom to sleep in. Just don't like getting out of bed and into the shower, as the towel rail / heating in there is powered by the boiler
  9. No frost last night with a low of 1.4C. Struggled up to 4.7C during the beautifully sunny late autumn day, now back down to 1.9C. Woodburner on..heating is still off (!). As we try to stop the cats going into the bedrooms where they make themselves far too comfortable on the duvets, the doors are closed. Our bedroom currently at 9C. So it won't just be the cold shoulder I get tonight then.
  10. JP, thanks for the Saturday forecast for the bonfire night..just about spot on with a light northerly. Real yeuchh day today with light drizzle and murk for all of it. Did my best yesterday and managed to slice, chop and carry a couple of tons of wood up to the house. Still trying to avoid putting the heating on...so far, so good. Jupiter's leg no better after a walk, so to the vet's for an X-ray. Tom, I'd like to join this year. Staplecross is the location, though it's a small village. Nearer larger places are Robertsbridge, Battle, Hawkhurst
  11. Thanks John. I really appreciate the charts etc. Haven't bothered with a TV forecast for ages...and then only do it to show the missus what you (and others) have already shown. By which time it's usually too late (thought the high winds were at least also predicted by the MetO in good time) Log chopping it is though, by the looks of next week.
  12. jp, Saturday evening. It's always a shame as they put on a great display, only for it to be obscured by smoke. Not really a hollow, as such, but in the lea of a big hill to the north
  13. A bit late reporting in. 1.3c this morning, 12.3c in the bedroom, as I do insist in enjoying the duvet. Beautifully sunny day, but unfortunately couldn't take the dogs out as Jupiter has done something to his leg (vet has no idea) and isn't allowed to romp in the woods. Skye is also really miffed as she's fine - can't really take one without the other though. No heating on yet, though using the woodburner like a sproggly frog (my own replacement there). Need the woods to be a tad less damp as we've already burnt 2 tons of wood this winter and I need to slice and dice a lot more. Saturday looks nice. JP, the Robertsbridge (East Sussex) bonfire night (on Saturday) is traditionally plagued by a still night and high pressure, such that the bonfire and firework smoke sticks around and spoils the show a bit. The village is in a dip at the base of the weald. I see the fax charts keep the high, but possibly with some breeze? A clear night and some wind would be magical.
  14. Stannah stairlifts and Saga invites are a regular part of our junk mail. I know we're 51, but it seems a tad early/
  15. Overcast, 11.4c, 98% humidity. Real meh weather. Saw a glimpse of winter with the low overnights and a clear sparkly morning earlier in the week, and I'm longing to see more of it. Waiting for a beautiful copper beech on the doggie walk to change colour...a wonderful sight on a bright day.
  16. We did have a variety of treats, but regrettably bought them about a week ago. An evening in front of the woodburner when it turned a bit chilly midweek rather diminished the supply. We had a kit-kat orange and two marshmallow squares left when by the time that we remembered it was Samhain. Luckily, the automated weapons kicked in. Usually just the kiddies from over the road, who do make a real effort to be scary, but are away in Holland this week...went by ferry on Sunday night, which must have been a bit choppy.
  17. Not had many trick-or-treaters here tonight. Can't imagine why...
  18. My son has always asked why his name is "Up against a dustbin in an alleyway". Still looking OK for Saturday night in Sussex (and Epsom) on XC. MetO has light showers later on. Will have to wear my rain hat. I can withstand the laughter, usually. Harveys beer will obviously help
  19. Just looked at XC Weather for Saturday night and so far it looks OK (fingers crossed). Hawkhurst at 6pm and 9pm shows as dry, 10c and 18-21mph winds which would be fine for the local Bonfire Night procession and fireworks in Battle.
