  1. Cheers JP. Breezy here all day, but mostly sunny. Nice thunderstorm yesterday afternoon with some peasized hail. Back to the Merlot. Enjoy the rest of the long weekend everyone.
  2. The French rain just clipped us here, but it was pretty uneventful. Several more bands to come over the next hours though, so we'll see how it goes. Saves me watering in the plants I put in at the weekend anyway.
  3. I'm sorry, I am also late with my condolences, Alixzandra, and hope you get to remember your Dad for all the wonderful times. My mum died 15 years ago and I have a ritual of a G&T and the Telegraph crossword on her birthday every year, something we shared and which feels special to me. Lovely sunny day, made worse in some ways by looking out of my study *home office* window. High of 18.5c in the shade; upstairs preferred balcony said 38c, what with the sensor being in the sun. Mrs stun requested an ice cream from the shop...luckily when the pub magnetised me I hadn't already bought it.
  4. Well, mainly clear here and a magnificent full moon rising. A chill in the air and the woodburner's on. No shortage of logs around here as a result of the winter storms. Just have to cut the buggers up, chop them and carry them to the house (uphill, obviously).
  5. Some quite fierce downpours here, but very short-lived. Had some quite good-sized hailstones mixed in with the last lot which passed through. Nothing thundery yet though :-(
  6. I think I'd be reasonably happy with that as it only adds South Central into the mix and much of our weather emanates from there anyway! Yesterday was a lovely bank holiday Monday. Spent it in Hastings with the boy who's just coming up to his 17th birthday and the prospect of moving up to a 125cc bike from his scooter. We have the bike already so I rode it down there just to make him jealous! It did start to cloud up a bit at around 4pm, but still a great day. No rain overnight - must have petered out by the time it got here. 'Twas a bit murky first thing but bright sunshine now and 16.7C, though with quite a breezy Easterly.
  7. Lovely day, it was. What happened to the forum during it? Hopefully, everybody was out enjoying the sunshine. 18c here and no nasty northeasterly to spoil it.
  8. Lovely here too. I was quite surprised what with rain warnings to the west of us. I think the far SE corner got the best of it today.
  9. Hi Bjay. Yes, it was a great moonrise as I was driving back from Heathfield way, with a yellowish / reddy tinge to it. I was hoping for a blood moon but as it rose above the lower dusty layer it cleared to a bright white. Lovely full moon anyway though. We had a lighter wind today so it felt quite nice out there. I'm not quite sure if the shorts and T-shirt the postman decided to don today was quite the right attire however...maybe I'm just getting old. Nice to see everyone back. Eynsford brought back a few memories from when I lived in Sevenoaks as a lad. My first girlfriend lived there and it was my duty to take her back home on the train from Bat & Ball station to Eynsford. On the plus side, it was the old slam door trains with individual compartments. Never quite managed to join the three foot high club though.
  10. Smoked my last cigarette at midday on New Year's Eve. Don't miss it at all with vaping. Some info and an EU-wide petition are at http://www.efvi.eu
  11. I want to know how you can possibly get 7 portions in. I only eat twice a day; veggies / salad at or with each. Wot, they want me to eat more? I want to know if they've thought about the additional CO2 and methane emissions. Ah, the nanny state and the law of unintended consequences. Er, 13.5c, And the weather station seems to think that it's going to rain. To its credit, pressure seems to have dropped somewhat, to 990 whatevers. First time for a few days below a grand of whatevers.
  12. Bright white skies and 18.9c. Can still see the car so the killer smog sandstorm hell hasn't yet descended on us fully.
  13. Phew, wot a scorcher ! Well, 18.4c anyway, just 0.2c off the high (Sunday) for the year. Sunny since the get-go with the early morning mist rising quickly off the fields and hills. Very pleasant. Got a second trip to the dentist's this afternoon. Lovely - haven't been for years so need the usual descaling and the like from Frau Mengele, though I got the all clear from the dentist herself last week. A think a beer garden may beckon on the way home.
  14. Well, it’s that day again when the Irish miss work and spend all day drinking. Monday. Back to normal today after a glorious weekend. Pub beer garden was in action and No.1 son (27 years old) was visiting and decided to take his poor old dad out for a pint. Reached 18.6c yesterday, but only made it to 15.4c today and the sun was only occasionally shining. Still, the woods are drying out nicely, though Jupiter is still confined to the house while his operation wound heals. His mum, Skye, is quite happy to go without him, however, much to his disgust.
  15. Whereas here it's bright and sunny from the get-go, unlike yesterday when it took till lunchtime to clear. I woke at 5.50am and it was getting light already and could see the blue sky above the mists which were lurking in the valley below us. Chilly, mind, at 1.6c. Hope everyone has a great POETS day.
  16. Managed to get out and mow the front moss and the rear mud, so they're ready for the next onslaught of whatever. Fog hung around until lunchtime here, so we got to a pleasant 14.5c which felt warm as the breeze has stopped altogether. Hmm, hence the fog I guess. Jupiter had his op and came home quite lively, but has fallen asleep on a sofa now. No walkies for a week, so he's going to be royally miffed. Got a few days' wait until we discover the results from the removed tumour - we know it's cancerous, but they look to see if the margins of the cancer cells are 'dirty', expanding microscopically away from the main growth. and also check his lymph glands for signs of metastasis.
  17. Bright and sunny again, but with a coolish wind making it not really feel the 14c showing on the temp thingy and definitely not as nice as yesterday's glorious spring day. Got to 16.2c here, but was very pleasant anyway as I had things to do in the garden and any warmer would have seen me melt. Walked up to the village to watch the rugby at the pub as England - Wales games need to be accompanied by Harveys. But not Malibu, poor Fluffy. Some rather bad news on the doggie front from the stun12 household with Jupiter, son of matriarch Skye. He has been having some mild arthritic problems with a front leg, though it hasn't stopped him from being a loony in the woods, so the vet has been giving him a course of injections and Metacam, a drug which reduces infalmmation. Anyway, just as an aside, Mrs stun12 pointed out a small lump on his back leg which the vet looked at and said she didn't think was anything, but they'd take a small sample for analysis. Turns out to be a mast cell tumour, so we're all in a bit of shock here. They're going to remove it on Thursday and do a more thorough biopsy as there seem to be 3 different levels of severity. It's not uncommon for retrievers, but of course you never think it's going to happen to you (or your dog). The whole forum thing passed me by too. Probably me not listening again, well that's what mrs stun12 says anyway. It was indeed me, Kentish CZ, who foolishly put £50 on Champagne something or another at Cheltenham. I stuck to what I said at the time that I would immediately take the winnings out of the bookie account and spend it, which I did, never to return Paddy Power again ! Hmm, I thought, a tip on the geegees from a bookie, even if it was just a coincidence brought up by talking about sparkling wine etc with Tams and a couple of others. 'Ave it.
  18. Not sure if it's quite that warm yet. You'll be lespetitsbabybels. Anyway, remember what happened last time. Only got to 13.2c here today, though it was pleasant enough once the clouds cleared early afternoon. Completely clear now, so I'm hoping for better things tomorrow. Several fallen trees need to be dealt with and mrs stun12 has a record-breaking purchase of summer bulbs and tubers which need to be planted at some stage. The pound shop has a lot to answer for...highly expert at buying them, she is. The actual positioning in the ground, not so good.
  19. Yes, 'twas a glorious day, even wading through the mud on the morning walkies was a pleasure. The bluebells are rising nicely in the woods and the fast-growing anemones are beginning to poke their heads above the ground too. I drove down to Rye to see the company accountant and the verges were full of daffodils standing proud. As a sufferer of SAD - I think we probably all are, unless we get to see snow or Keraunophile's rather odd rain fetish - I'm feeling a lot better about things in general. Long may it continue, though Tams is suggesting a bit of nastiness before the spring is sprung properly. Bit worried about our fellow poster with the bath sheet...hopefully he didn't venture up to the pub in it.
  20. I'm sure I'm not alone in enjoying Tam's post here which gave me a (after reading it a couple of times) a much better insight into the possible course of events. Thanks, dear. Not bad for 87 . Most grateful for your postings here..I never even go to the MAD thread, so never saw the tussles. And an extra thumbs up to JP, whose fax-related short term forecasts beat all the agencies time and time again. I would like some dry weather. Sunshine would be nice. legrandefromage's fantastical journey could only end one way....bath towel in the garden. Respect, mate, as a late night NW poster occasionally. Oops. 3.6c and sunny. I may have lied about the second bit. New moon, so lots of stars are visible.
  21. Despite the temperature being at 7c, it really doesn't feel like it for some reason. Mrs stun12 just complained about having cold legs so the woodburner's on now. It was very rainy overnight, and I almost got caught in a shower on the way back from the doggie mudbath, but otherwise it's been dry. Up until now, he says looking out of the window. It's dark out to the west of us apparently, though bright to the east. Lovely rainbow first thing this morning. Couldn't quite get to the beginnings of some cherry blossom on one of our trees as foreground for it, but you can see a fossilised spade in the border which has been sulking there since last time we could actually dig in the clay. October, I think it was.
  22. Hello to fellow SE thread addicts. There are some early signs of blossom on spring-flowering trees - wow, what a change from last year when spring took forever to arrive, our friendly local farmshop saying that everything was at least three weeks late all spring and summer. And as for the potatoes - rubbish they were, and up to £13 a sack at one stage, though back to the normal £7.50 now. I'm heartened by some spring-like weather, though it looks like we still have a bit of Atlantic dross to put up with here and there. Walking the doggies has been a pleasure, though the underfoot (and paw) surface leaves something to be desired. Daffs and crocuses (crocii?) out in force now. However, the grass would easily win the snow cup if it were, er, made of snow. Still far to wet to mow though. Will need a scythe i reckon - maybe I can borrow it from one of the four horsemen of the apocolypse (Express, Guardian, anybody in government who raises taxes from AGW scaries, Chris Huhne, cos he's on holiday in Vietnam, but presumably cycled there). Best of luck to Snow Lady tomorrow - hope it all goes well for you.
  23. Well done the Welsh, always play with the utmost honour (the Scots are terrible on the rugby field). I think that's good for us Englanders, France losing like, so all to play for then. (Sorry about the Cardiff accent in the middle there)
