One thing to remember folks - this type of set up may not happen again for years!! Enjoy the moment. A few weeks ago i'd have given a lot just for a few cm's of snow! We now have the prospect of possibly 20cm + !!!

Everything’s missing me now I’m home
if I was to get 10cm I’ll be absolutely chuffed to bits!!!
I await Ian’s updates with great interest!
Yes, Ian will take us through into Fridays forecast - Unlike Darren Bett just now!....feline!! lol

One thing i haven't being discussed regarding Thurs/friday, is likely snow depths? Anyone have any ideas what we're looking at?

latest BBC forecast (updated 20 mins ago on website) looks very very good for us Thurs/Friday ! Looks all snow, and we get a fair a mount from two separate fronts associated with that low Fingers crossed it delivers for us!

I wish you guys could see the precip charts on the EC. Serious disruption Tues and Wed on this run across swathes of the country.

At the moment I would say that is a fair assessment away from east coasts?
I think that's a terrible assessment. How on earth can they say that given the model output!? She should have said, next week is looking bitterly cold with the a strong possibility of snow. The word "dry" will just make her look daft!

So the lunchtime BBC forecast said Next week cold but dry!!??

someone just called the met office and said there's a BEAST on the way,......there isn't, its just a cold snap......?

I would love to see this cold come off as much as the next person, BUT, If I had a penny for every time i've seen BOOM turn to GLOOM over the years, i'd have my own chalet in Courchevel and wouldn't need to read this thread! Caution still needed folks

what's everyone's thoughts on this afternoon? Looking at the radar there doesn't seem to be heavy precip in the midlands/wales? Have they got it wrong??

temp dropping here in Warminster, and light rain turning to sleet/snow

I need snow so badly its driving me crazy

Experience told me the snow line would move further south, but this seems too good t be true!

I spoke to my uncle in Florida yesterday. He's really worried. He lives near Naples (east coast) and can't get away now. The highways are clogged and there's no fuel in the gas stations and water is sold out in the supermarkets It's not just the wind that's so worrying. The storm surge will be like the sea coming into the towns. I have a very bad feeling about this storm, I really fear for a great loss of life and catastrophic destruction

Bizarrely, someone yesterday or today on a thread even suggested the tropical feature 'wasn't a key player'. It's THE key fly in ointment. Pump tropical moisture north via a very rare January hurricane/tropical storm into our wintry latitudes and then just sit and watch the models go beserk. Latest UKMO-GM just one potential outcome of many (albeit looking a very interesting one for the snow lovers, at some point).
I was only thinking earlier, if there was a possibility of a collision between the Storm and our cold air. Perhaps the Express will have their snowbomb after all !!

Just wrote this
When snow falls, time stands still.
The child from within rekindles with my soul,
The elegant way it falls, is gentle and familiar
It floats with grace, and speaks to me like an old friend
As if from another world, it wants to be noticed
From gloom to bright, it changes the world in one night
My old friend snow, I love you so

Oh come on Steve. JMA never gets credit! One good run does not = reliable model!ECM 'ok' tonight-
However its all about the JMA tonight- the best realistic run thus far....

That would produce large accumulations seeing as it will settle instantly! No rain to snow event
