  1. You know the answer to all our problems - simply silt up the Channel! That way, the storms won't keep either dying as they cross the Channel or being deflected towards BeNeLux.
  2. The heat/humidty combined with high pollen levels and an incredibly hot room at night is really starting to get on my nerves now. Here's hoping for some storms to cool things down.
  3. So according to the TORRO map I should get about 15/16 days of thunder each year. Last year I recorded 9.
  4. oh they're always a good source of entertainment. That, and the lack of being able to spell or use punctuation is shockingly poor for such a professional organisation that produces services for the whole country
  5. think we're overdue a new thread
  6. We had a very dry Spring in this part of Kent, then we get a couple of days each month with deluges rather than it being spread out over the month. Rainfall in April was only 30%, whilst May was a little better at 51%. To be fair, reservoirs are at almost full capacity in Kent.
  7. 25.3mm of rain so far in just 8 hours. Makes it the highest daily rainfall so far this year (and it hasn't stopped raining yet!) Shame about the lack of pyrotechnics that could have accompanied it last night... For many in Kent, I presume the rainfall last night came close to those values produced by Xynthia on 28th Feb?
  8. Wednesday 6th August 2008 anyone? THE best display I have seen in Kent...
  9. Raining here now too - so much for it just clipping the south coast, as our local forecast has just said! lol Hoping for some thundery activity after midnight
  10. Having watched the video forecast from the early evening broadcast he explains it more clearly - the Met Office have apparently issued an Early Warning for a 40% risk of 20-30mm of rain across the Southeast on Thursday night. This must be a 'behind the scenes' jobby since there is nothing on their website yet, and this might also explain why Rob McElwee felt the need to zoom into southern counties on his forecast for tomorrow night...
  11. Why is Michael Fish sporting an 'Early Warning' for tomorrow night on the local forecast? Nothing from the Met Office!
  12. Turned extremely dark here from the east around 7pm, then started raining lightly but proper convective drops, turned briefly moderate for a few minutes then eased as it passed to the west. The shower is still going as it drifts westwards, but is losing intensity. Seems like we caught it during it's peak. Shame it didn't do much else, looked very black at the time.
  13. Quite a potent cell expanding northwards over NE Kent, over Canterbury and Neil South's house... Edit: just seen his response above
  14. Wow, nice pictures TWS, I see what they meant when they said it went very black!
  15. Shame I'm back home in Kent, friends still in Norwich say it turned very black with torrential rain and very loud thunder. It has eased since.
  16. I presume that came from the event that occurred in Kent on 6th August 2008 (Wednesday night) - I have to agree with your description, those storms were amazing, the best I've seen in this country with constant fork lightning which lasted for several hours.
  17. I'm back in Kent now for the summer, and I agree that westerly type scenarios are often better for my location. Won't be best pleased if Norwich bags all the storms though!
  18. After waiting over 10 months for a single flash of lightning or rumble of thunder I was finally rewarded with a 15-minute storm in Norwich yesterday, a few loud rumbles, but a storm none-the-less
  19. squall line east of Ipswich on radar?
  20. formed over my house then - lol. Typical!
  21. Yes, been on the phone to home say they have rain like 'you would never believe' for a few hours with occassional thunder/lightning. Typical I'm stuck in Norwich!
