  1. Got about an inch of fresh snow here (not far from central Cardiff). Stopped since about 8am, and thawing now. Can only hope there will be some snow left when it cools tonight, and that the PPN leaving northern France will head straight for Cardiff!!
  2. Drizzle in my bit of Cardiff atm. Hopefully PPN later tonight will fall as snow! Slow thaw today - left for work @7.30, home by 4.30. Still lying snow around, but not as much. An inch or two as a top up would do nicely. Any ideas on longer term chances (ie this week, next week, start of Feb)??
  3. BBC forecasts are probably generated automatically, so no real human input. Still hopeful to see some more snow in the coming days!
  4. Any thoughts on the "heavy snow" for Cardiff on the MetO 5 day forecast? Is this a machine-generated forecast or has a human looked at the info and made a prediction? Personally, I would chose the human over the machine, but would welcome any comments.
  5. MetO 5 day showing heavy snow for Cardiff tomorrow night. Not much for other parts of SE Wales. Is this the PPN coming from the east? Still showing some potential for snow showers as well for the next few days. Counrtyfile tomorrow methinks. Bloody chilly here atm. I rarely fell the cold, but my feet are freezing tonight. Hot water bottle and an old-man blanket needed!
  6. Radar shows some ppn around Fishguard, a bit heavier in Aberyswyth and pounding it down in Caernarfon/Bangor/Ynys Mon. Dim byd o werth yn unlle arall / Nothing of any worth anywhere else. (Waiting to be corrected by those in the Swansea area.....)
  7. Where in the west are you? I'm not a stalker - just the town would suffice
  8. There's a photo in the netweather gallery of a bloke sitting on a garden bench in the snow, in his pants. My wife noticed it earlier on, and after half an hour I had to ask her to get off my laptop - got a bit embarrassing tbh. He's called Steve apparently. Anyone care to confess? Still got "snizzle" in my patch. Pretty much all afternoon. Maybe the chance of a few light showers in the night, and agree with some other posters - could be here for a while (hopecasting in a big way!!).
  9. Hasn't stopped here yet. Very light snow all day after this mornings heavier offerings. A slight thaw on, but still the flakes fall out of the sky. Still a chance of some light showers coming off the bristol channel, and how knows what else to come!
  10. Where to are you in Cardiff Jay? EDIT - Don't worry - seen your anser
  11. Tystiolaeth bod Duw yn caru'r hwntwrs / Proof that God loves the South Walians.
  12. Still coming down nicely here. Radar look as if it will be over in a couple of hours for Cardiff (as others have said already), but MetO forecast (@7am) still showing heavy snow in Cardiff 'til mid afternoon, followed by light snow for a while. Would appreciate any thoughts on this :S
  13. Ditto - loving the snow we've got at the moment, but worried that it's moving through too quickly. Someone please convince me that it's going to slow down or stall completely.
  14. The rain today radar is showing the front really beefing up as it approaches land. South Wales is in for a battering no doubt about it. North Wales may well get a fair bit as well by the looks of things.
  15. Yep - they won't be able to get any further into Wales due to the 15ft drifts blocking the M4 and other major routes in the South!
  16. Don't really think we can 100% follow Derek or the national BBC forecast. MetO do NOT just issue a red /amber warning 18hours+ before an "event" without substantial evidence to back it up. WalesAirGroup posted earlier on that the public services (police, ambulance etc) had the heads up before making the warning public. It's happening folks!! MetO forecast to-ing and fro-ing between heavy snow for my location and back to sleet and then back to heavy snow again. The truth is we cannot know 100% what is going to happen. The statistics suggest that we will get more than enough snow to make up for a dismal winter so far. As far as next week goes, que sera, sera - whatever will be will be (join in if you know the tune).
  17. Who cares?? Tomorrow's snow event looking mega-promising. I'm a late 60s baby, so remember some epic snow events (Caerphilly 78, Pembs 82) and am soooo looking forward to an historic dump tomorrow. [edit - the dump I'm referring to is clearly an historic dumping of snow as opposed to any other sort of dump you may think I was talking about]
  18. NNNNNNOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! Have faith - Depends where you are in Cardiff. I'm not far from the centre, so a bit close to the coast, but other parts should be ok. We've had some good dumpings in the past even here. Tomorrow (as so often) will be a case of looking out of the window and seeing what falls out of the sky. Evaporative cooling may also play a part in keeping the snow for longer.
  19. WOW!!! Don't rememer seeing a red warning before for us. Mostly looking forward but ....... STAY SAFE FOLKS. SEE YOU OUT AND ABOUT ON THE SLEDGE:D
  20. Very fine snow in Cardiff at the moment. Hardly noticeable but nice to see. A sign of things to come methinks. As I've said in previous years - EIRA BACH, EIRA MAWR!!
  21. NNNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't you dare
  22. It's nailed on in Cardiff - I can fell it in my water/ice. My locality will get an absolute pasting, while other areas may not do so well. I am basing this forecast on 100% hope-casting and faith in God, Allah or any other spiritual being that may or may not exist. I will get the sledge out. I will make a snowman. I will make a snow angel (and then regret it immediately). I will drink mulled wine. I will drink port. I will drink Irish Coffee. I will fall down. I will snore and p**s the Mrs off. I predict all of these things. They will happen.
