  1. Been snowing quite hard here for more than an hour - actually settled. We had so much rain earlier I wouldn't have thought this possible. Looks like the band is fizzling out.
  2. We had heavy rain, sleet and snow last night, although the snow was too wet to stick. Fortunately it hasn't washed away the snow so, finger's crossed, it'll still be here for tomorrow. The rain washed the snow from the trees, which is a shame, as they looked beautiful yesterday. Roads are awful with black ice this morning, though. Everyone be careful
  3. Chucking it down here, too, although there are some big flakes mixed in with it
  4. Absolutely chucking it down with rain here. Don't think it's going to snow
  5. Yep -it's -2 here now at 3.30pm. Gonna be a cold one again tonight. The leading edge of that rain band will be here within an hour. Could it fall as snow?
  6. Met Office just put out heavy snow warnings for East Midlands and Peterborough this evening. The first band of rain will be here soon - it'll be interesting to see whether it falls as rain or snow.
  7. Thick fog has descended here in West Cambs. Still -1 deg. No sign of any thaw. Hoping if the rain does make it this far it might turn to the white stuff. Not sure how fog affects temperatures in conditions like these - ie, thick snow cover. Does it suppress the temps?
  8. Does anyone have any thoughts on what the rain band will be doing today as it slowly heads north? Will it reach as far as Cambs, Northants, The Wash and, if it does, will it turn to snow as it did on Monday night?
  9. It snowed heavily in West Cambs for about three hours last night. Started to thaw a little bit, but the cloud cover today is helping to keep the temperature down. Woke up to a winter wonderland, though, and praying the snow can stick around until Friday. It'll be my first white Christmas since 1981 if the snow stays. Here's a little pic of my garden this morning. My hubby always insists on sweeping the paths when it snows, which is extremely annoying as it spoils the view. Hey-ho!
  10. It's been snowing heavily here for more than two hours now - probably had 2-3 inches. It's a winter wonderland outside. This makes up for the disappointment from Saturday. The band does look like it's losing its kick. The dark blues have been replaced by lighter. I just hope it doesn't start sleeting or raining and wash it all away.
  11. Unbelievable forecast at 6.30pm - has the snow band over us all night. Mind you - they had it over me all night on Thursday and it didn't happen. Been snowing here for about half an hour. Just starting to stick to the wet roads
  12. Yes, that snow line is tantaslisingly close to me. Though, as TEITS mentioned, it is weakening and breaking up as it gets further south. Might get a little flurry out of it. Got sod all last night. The rain band passed right over me and gave me a small shower and that was it. Very disappointing few days.
  13. Snowing heavily here now - settling straight away on the layer of ice that's formed
  14. Had white-out conditions here for about 15mins - shame it's not sticking to the paths
  15. Unfortunately, it's not sticking. You definitely won't get another inch
  16. Very heavy snow here now - hopefully it might top up what melted earlier, after all
  17. Just started snowing properly here in West Cambs. Can't see it laying, though. The decaying front has just about fizzled out to the north of the county and isn't really moving. I think I'm seeing it's last hurrah!
  18. Doesn't look like they're heading south at the moment, though - still tracing south-westish, so will miss most of Cambs
  19. After a snowless evening and no snow when I went to bed, got up and we'd had a couple of inches overnight, which is a relief. Radar shows a line of showers to the north of Cambridgeshire. Not sure if they're going to get further south to top it up. South Cambs got hammered.
  20. Drizzling heavily in Cambridge. The radar looks amazing but I guess this will only fall as rain where we are? Any chance it could turn to snow?
  21. What a lovely grey morning. It was drizzling when I left Grafham in West Cambs at 8am. I'm now in Cambrdge and the drizzle has stopped. Hoping it might turn more wintry soon.
  22. It's already hitting the medai - and Netweather gets a mention!! http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/blog/2009/dec/09/weather-temperatures-white-christmas
