Forecast temps are slowly dropping for Saturday and Sunday as we get closer. Positive signs!

Sledge is out

Very cold today. Caught me by surprise as I haven’t been keeping up with the forecast lately.
Another notable factor is how calm it is, not a breath of wind. Been looking into the garden for a good 10 minutes (avoiding work) and, apart from the odd wren and black bird, not a thing has moved. -

Is that Wednesday in 10 days time? Everything is in 10 days time. Never materialises though.
Ye, will probably be cold rain.

Looking towards the mountain, we have a dusting at around 300m here. Bit disappointing, although the forecast was for sleet. Looks like they had it spot on.

It’s snowing! Quite heavy. Not forecast.

Pitching now in Magor. Happy now.
The tent?

Aye. It looks like a bust. Just can’t see the heavy stuff getting here. Expecting no more than a dusting.
Thats got to be up there with one of the biggest disappointments

Cheers for the posts Tipster. Great to see some new graphics and details in the thread.

this thread has been going on since bonfire night 2016. Maybe a nice fresh one with the possibility of a bit of winter on the horizon

Does anybody know what the cloud formation is out to the West right now. Remarkable, looks a little like tractor tyre tread. I’ve tried to photo, but only got a phone and it’s hopeless. Never seen it before.
Wave clouds?

i think that's it is for us here. 3-4 inches. Not bad

All this talk of Derek is getting boring. I think everyone has made their point clear.
Be better concentrating on the weather conditions in Wales.
Currently dry here in Cwmbach after earlier snow
aye. Come on. Whether you rate him as a forecaster or not, he seems a pretty decent guy. Time to move on. we have far more positive/interesting things to discuss.

After the last ssw in 2013 the summer was very good - hopefully it will be the same this year .
I wonder if anyone has checked Ssw and the following summer years to see if there is a pattern ?
Maunder minimum, ice melt cutting off the usual under water current flows , Andy’s snow shaker , in 20 years time we will be one of the leading nations at the Winter Olympics .
Costa , Greggs , Joes ice cream etc all on the top of Pen Y Fan , Ibis ,premier inn etc in place of that dodgy burger van at the bottom of the ski lifts .
I've been thinking exactly the same about summers following a late SSW. As you mentioned, 2013 was a great summer. 10 days down Llangennith in July. Wall to wall sunshine. Awesome it was. Gower power went down a treat

i noticed derek panicing yesterday on his forecast making sure he was telling us about the snow coming tonight - maybe he has had a load of twitter abuse and his bosses have given him a roasting too - he's very lucky he didn't get sacked - if it was me i would have sacked him - too interested in how he looks on camera and less interested in doing the job he's paid for

Perhaps my compass is off but, why so many drifts on the west side of walls in an easterly? All the monster drifts in Ogmore are on the other side of the wall than you would expect?
I was wondering the same thing. Huge drifts here but on the west facing/sheltered sides of roads and lanes.
