  1. what a stunning day! Nice and cold for bon fire night. Just how I remember them as a kid in the 80's. Wrapped up with scarf and gloves.

This is one of the best autumns I can remember. The trees look fantastic.

hoping, as always, for a proper winter to follow.

Hello all...haven't dropped in for a while.have been waiting for silly season to start and by the posts in the model thread over the last few days it could be a different ball game this winter!!⛷

I really hope so!. My little one is 3 next week. She hasn't seen a flake of snow.

I'm enjoying this lovely Autumn weather though. Long may it last.

Anything but wind and rain for me. Snow would be a huge bonus though

11.5mm of rain has fallen today. Not too much you'd think but given that the ground is so saturated, everywhere is now waterlogged yet again. Hence the wish for some dry weather...last I checked snow doesnt settle on water!

  4. Should be hitting peak gusts between now and 14:00. Sat in work in Newport watching the trees and lamp posts sway in the wind

I hope my house is OK when i get home. It didn't fair too well during 2013/14 winter.

    How is everyone doing?

  5. what's the thoughts on Imogene's impact in south wales tomorrow?

xc weather have me down for 70 mph gusts but the met have mid to high 50's.

will it be comparable to the worst of 2013/14 winter?

  6. I think we need to get used to the idea that widespread snow events have changed from occasional to freak events.

I've started to dread winter and this winter has only reinforced that feeling.

another year of constant false predictions in the model thread. Not that I'm fooled these days. Complete waste of time. No point even looking at charts outside the 3 day range for a forecast. Spotting trends maybe but never take them as gospel.

saying that I do remember Feb half term being quite snowy back in the day so not saying we wont see anything. But overall another dismal winter so far.

just hope our forever autumn doesn't drag into another summer.

    Too late, time for pictures

Been meaning to dig out some family photos of this event for a while now. I wasn't quite 4 when it happened but have great memories. Absolutely amazing.

I'll have to ask the folks to dust off their photo albums

I hope I am wrong and it may just be due to the lack of good winters of recent years but I having followed the model thread I can't help but feel us in the south west of the UK will miss out on most of whatever this cold spell delivers! It will be nice to see some more seasonal temperatures though! Just hope that if we don't get any snow then it stays dry for a while!

I know what you mean. After the last 2 winters I start thinking I'll never see snow again. Wales though is quite unique in its position and some of the best snow events aren't forecast at all. We do tend to get ignored a bit in the model thread as people are naturally interested in their own areas.

I also agree with the dry comment. Love a bit of snow but I'll take anything but rain at the moment.

  9. 5 or 6 slates just flew off our roof in the howling gale. Too exposed here, west facing slope of the Malverns.

I feel you pain. We're situated on a west facing ridge facing straight onto the Bristol channel. We had tiles off on 3 separate occasions during winter 2013/14. Nightmare! I used to love gales when I was a youngster. Not any more.

The sound outside now is horrendous

  10. Loving this Autumn. Long may this quiet spell last.

I truly hate wet and windy weather. Although i understand the interest value I never want to experience a winter like 2013/14 again.

I'm hopeful that this winter will deliver something more interesting in terms of cold and snow. I haven't seen lying snow here since January 2013 so it wouldn't take much. But if not i just hope it's drier that average.

  11. Very nice outlook

Further snow showers will affect parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland on Sunday leading to some locally large accumulations and the showers may spread along eastern and western coasts of England and Wales. The showers will be associated with strong winds so drifting and temporary blizzard conditions are possible as well as icy stretches. The public should be aware of the potential for disruption from these conditions.

Snow showers are likely to continue to affect similar areas into Monday bringing further accumulations. Meanwhile, there is a risk of a more persistent spell of rain, sleet and snow affecting Wales, the Midlands and southwest England on Monday. This alert has therefore been extended into Monday and now covers these additional areas, but this is more uncertain and therefore further updates are likely in the coming days.

    Lovely jubbly

Surely One of these forecasts have to come true!

    And don't call me Shirley!
