we've had snow overnight here in ponty folks - only a tad - but a tad is better than nowt and it stuck to the ground and turned things and surfaces white
same here. Although i think I heard something against the window so possibly more hail than snow.

Dry start to January
https://blog.metoffice.gov.uk/2017/01/18/dry-start-to-january/
So 4 below average months on the bounce. I wonder how unusual that is

Think I mention this every year so apologies if i'm repeating myself.
I seem to remember Feb half term to be quite productive for snow back in the day (80's), anybody else have similar memories?. So we have plenty of time left.
Also, there is zero sign of the Atlantic kicking in (something this winter will be remembered for, really very unusual) so it really does give us a great chance going forward.

The front has gone now guys and it looks like we are going to rely on meagre showers which are very fragmented on the current radar.
Ye. Cold rain. The story of the last 4 years.

LOL 1cm drifts. Positive if cardiff airport expect snow.
That's true. Still gives us some hope.
Made me laugh though. I was picturing Derick with his ruler measuring a drift against a curb. Not quite the same as 1982 with 12-15ft drifts. . hahahaha

5c and light rain in Lampeter, expecting wet snow/sleet this afternoon clearing to a cold evening with snow showers later tonight. As ever it could go either way anything from a whiteout to a damp squip!

For here the temperature just too high when the bulk of the precip comes in. Warm sector pushing too far North.
Best I can hope for are a few snow showers this evening when the weather front pushes east

Update
Issued at:
12:05 on Tue 10 Jan 2017Valid from:
00:05 on Thu 12 Jan 2017Valid to:
23:55 on Thu 12 Jan 2017Rain moving eastwards across the south of the UK on Thursday may turn to snow in places. Whilst this is unlikely, there is a small chance of snow settling with disruption to road, rail and air services as well as interruptions to power supplies and other utilities. Associated heavy rain and strong winds may prove additional hazards.
If the area of heavy rain moves further north, this would pull cold air into the system and bring snow to parts of southern England and south Wales. At the same time heavy rain will likely persist in some areas along with the potential for some locally strong winds.
Local Authorities affected and associated warning levels
Blaenau Gwent, Bridgend, Caerphilly, Cardiff, Merthyr Tydfil, Monmouthshire, Neath Port Talbot, Newport, Powys, Rhondda Cynon Taff, Swansea, Torfaen, Vale of Glamorgan

I see Mr Murr has thrown is toys out of the pram in the model thread. Usually happens once during the winter. I remember Tamara bearing the brunt last year.
cant believe people get their knickers in such a twist.

Was that down through the Wye Valley? I tried to do that in October but was met with an unwarned road closure and diversion so didn't bother returning in November to see the autumn colours. Otherwise, love that area and the scenery is gorgeous.
Yes. That's it. I regularly drive through that area. Stunning. Lovely coating of hoar frost. Got me feeling proper festive.

What a cracking morning. Walked the dogs around 7am, just before the sun popped up. Very hard frost. The colour of the sky was beautiful
My car recorded -7 between Pontypool & Usk. Lowest I can remember since 2010.
The scenery was stunning driving through Monmouth towards the M5.
-
very heavy rain overnight.
Mynydd Maen has a very light dusting of something at around 400m asl.
-
West based NAO despair yesterday to FI delight today.
Got to love the winter model discussions.
The more level headed contributors are definitely hinting at a very interesting December though.

Lovely frosty morning here.
Looks like we'll have to suffer a little unsettled spell before something more interesting which would be great timing for the start of winter.

I'm driving back from Durham at 10am so will spend most of my time in the amber zone. Not looking forward to that. Hoping most of the haulage firms ground their fleet
