not quite as bad as forecasted, and I know it wasn't us in the end - but places in Scotland and Ireland have had a right pasting - so this westerly/north westerly has delivered, but not quite to Wales, Ireland seemed to suck all the life out of the showers before they hit, well - you win some, you lose some, this time - winter is far from over yet though, end of Feb and then we still get ops right through to Easter, so no chucking the towel in yet - hurricane winds tonight with some more snow for north wales, more wintry showers after that

    hurricane?

depression/end of the world/realistically - dawns on you what you spent at xmas/credit card bills dump on you from high/pay day isn't for a couple of weeks yet/and your down to your last tin of beans in the cupboard lol

Hahaha. All of those things. Plus a smack in the face with a dollop of water when leaving the house. Not a great start to a Monday. I'm sure a foot or 2 of snow would cheers me up though.

About this storm..been in the mad thread and there are some big figures being quoted from wind speeds and so on.work keeping an eye on for sure

I seriously don't want that to come off. My house is prone to damage and that would bring an abrupt end to dry January

Going on some of other threads they are obviously disappointed.  This snow has had a dramatic southward change and snow line should reduce through day.

wind forecast now confirms this. gone from a strong westerly to a much lighter north/northeasterly

So will it snow in Cardiff now? Or do I need more of a shift South.

This is unbelievable to think the snow wouldn't even get this far south last night.

i think it's a case of nobody really knows. Models underestimate the resilience of cold and south wales can do much better than forecast. a definite shift south. I would say we're definitely in the game

Fed up of the posts saying. "Can't forecast anything in this country unless its rain", "Rubbish forecast" etc.

Granted the post was a bit spikey.

fairs doos. Bit grumpy this morning myself. hahaha

The BBC auto graphics were spot on for my area. It was the tv forecasts that were a little misleading.

Lots of stamping of feet here because it didn’t snow 6” on their house. Scroll back through the comments and people stamping their feet because the Beeb and MetO chopped and changed from sleet to snow to rain to snow etc. Surely that gave an indication of how marginal it would be for some.

I think the forecast was bang on. A “be aware” warning that that didn’t quite make it to the south coast.

There has been widespread snowfall throughout Wales. Some will have had a dusting some a dumping. It’s the first week of Winter. Get a grip people.

bit OTT i think. Some mild disappointment which is understandable. The only stamping of feet here seems to be yours

Wet, wet, wet, wet, wet - no, not an unimaginatively named tribute band but an accurate description of this dreadful September so far in this neck of the woods.  Already the wettest September for at least 10 years here and we still have 9 days to go....    Local flooding and swollen rivers not what you want to see at this time of year and especially not what you want to face when trying to work on a roof before the worst of the winter :(

I can only hope that this is a statistical anomaly and not a trend for more rain and stormy weather this early in the autumn.  Oh, for even one one week of crisp, dry and sunny weather - consider yourselves blessed if you have been lucky enough to enjoy these conditions over the last few weeks.

Rant over.  At least we haven't had an earthquake or a hurricane so my thoughts are with all those in Mexico and the Caribbean who have lost so much to natural distasters this month.

As I opened the curtains this morning i muttered to my wife that this is the worst September I can remember. Lets just hope there's some balancing up so we have some more dry, cold, snow etc.. come late Autumn/Winter. I think that could be a real possibility

Current conditions are reminding me of June 1995, the last time we saw a similiar spell of weather with equivalent temperatures. It was a month of contrasting fortunes, especially in the east- the first 2-3 weeks were dominated by cool grey skies with a persistant North / north easterly airstream, conversely the NW faired best, with mostly sunny albeit distinctly average temps, with a robust mid atlantic high feature which tried to ridge NE across the country from time to time but became unstuck by a fairly weak atlantic trough feature anchoring itself down from the NW. It was a very dry month in the west and north west overall. There was then a major turnaround just in time for the Summer solstice, with a synoptic set up almost the replica of what occured Friday/Saturday last week, the azores high ridged north, and pulled in much warmer uppers, with 30 degrees widespread in southern parts by the 22nd. The rest of the month brought wall to wall blue skies and high temps for all, N England and Scotland saw some very high maxima, as high pressure sat over the country. By the end of the month the high retrogressed to the NW and a slightly cooler easterly feed invaded southern and eastern parts.

I remember the spell very well, not bettered in any June since in  these parts in my book, though June 2006 gave it a run for its money. Unfortunately the current weather looks shortlived, a mini version of June 1995.. Promisingly, it heralded a superb summer, again not bettered since in my book..

I've also been comparing this summer with 1995. Not an exact match but there are certainly similarities. 1995 wasn't wall to wall sunshine. I remember quite a few weeks of overcast weather, some drizzle but overall very dry. And we all know how it finished. Signs are looking good for this August so fingers crossed! We're well over due a good one

Good luck to ya. I'm driving through Capel Curig which does very well for high wind gusts, 100mph not unheard of there due to the elevation.

oh bloody hell. Yes. Capel Curig often tops the wind gust tables.

that's gonna be interesting! Let us know how it is/was

My drive to work up the Llanberis pass should be interesting tomorrow morning with storm Doris

I'm driving back from Durham at 10am so will spend most of my time in the amber zone. Not looking forward to that. Hoping most of the haulage firms ground their fleet
