Mmmm.. Met office text forecast for Saturday.. I think they are sitting on the fence a bit.. They say just the word showers no mention of the word rain no mention of the word snow... Or am I just clutching at straws.

The SE bias in the MOD thread is unbelievable.
Perfectly acceptable for that lot to moan when it looks like snow will miss them yet you get jumped on if you happen to be from another region and state it doesn't look good for your patch.
Pointed this hypocrisy out and get post deleted. Ho hum!
Totally agree with this.. Its at the point now were its become unreadable.

Be interesting to see which of us is right with such wildly differing predictions
It will.. I'm very sceptical of easterlies... I will be delighted to be wrong though.

Bamboozlment in the mod thread... Some saying lots of snow for the North.. I presume they mean northeast and not the whole North.

Your posting like this is actually going to happen... This is just another pub run special which we get from time to time.. Won't be anything like this on the morning run.

To conclude my (rather pointless) 24 hour research project into “That ECM”, I am pleased to say that I finally found the thread. Thank you to ThatECM for your help in the end.
I realise this is not relevant and I promise never to post here again on the subject. As a final gesture, below is the ECM 12z at T192 from 5 Dec 2012 that started the biggest forum meltdown in the history of Netweather.
Have you got a link to it please.. Wouldn't mind a read of that.

Howls of despair emanating from the mod thread.. ECM has cancelled the easterly.

Feb 96 was super.. I may be wrong on this but I think it was a big Atlantic front that bumped into the cold air.. I remember it snowed solidly for a good 12 hours leaving about 2 foot in its wake.
Joggs beat me to it.

As I think we cleared up by PM it mainly seems to be an elevation issue, which makes sense on rain to snow as it turned more quickly and some of the more marginal shows over the days after might have stayed as snow rather than rain lower down (which makes sense a few was forecast 200m+).
But yup this weekend looks like yet another snow event sinking south and leaving us with nothing. I think the issue is that most of us are not going to care if this sinks south and stays of rain, it's the frequency of these sinking south and ending up as decent snowfalls for the midlands that is utterly grating.
I didn't live here in Feb 96 (and wouldn't be old enough to remember it) but youtube makes think I'd love it - what direction did that come from?

This is weird, I'm not even a millions miles from you up near the town centre - 30-40m more elevation admittedly. I think I've just been lucky with the marginal and showery events then. That said there was reasonable snow in the park down at 100m asl a couple of times, bizzarre.
It's not been historic snow, but there's been several days where it's snowed for hours and hours on end and as said once had a total of 4-5 inches here - including half thawed snow from the previous event on the grass admittedly. I found that 27 December to 10/12th January people remarkable in that there was some snow on the ground each day, which is unusual for this area.
Can't recall snow for hours to be honest.. We had the rain to snow event which was good.. And 1 or 2 heavy showers.. That snow that hung around for 10 days or so was from one very heavy shower.... Anyway that's all in the past.. The fact remains that this weekend is looking like more frustration.. Tuesday next week holds a bit of hope but I'm not holding my breath.. Followed by a possible easterly and the pennines gobbling up the snow.

Brownhill.. We have had a bit of snow yes..a few showers and the rain to snow event.. Its hardly being awe inspiring.

Thoroughly depressing this.. Tempted to give up on this winter.. Just totally uncanny how the rain gets us everytime and snow stops just before our region... And with an easterly now in the offing.. I despair.
5 inches?.. Haven't seen 5 inches for years.. I want proper frontal snow not a few showers.. Feb 96 was the last proper decent snowfall here.. 25 years ago.

The purple (snow) covers the whole of the NW so you'd need to be at sea level to see rain and then, it might have the odd flake in it
Yes.. My stupidity..mistook north Wales for northwest.. Only glanced at it first time.

The met office forecasts change on a minute basis, I've just checked three times last 5 mins, was snow tomorrow morning now sunshine, sleet and snow showers suddenly appeared for today were not there 5 mins ago.
BBC forecast just as bad changes on hourly basis, maps show snow tomorrow, forecast sunshine.
Please do not use these they are unreliable.
Same for here.. Has me dry all day Sunday now.

One thing I do fear about Sunday is that front having a more southerly track than some models show, could still miss the NW completely..
Yes.. this is my fear aswell.. These type of systems always seem to go south the closer we get and end up missing us.
