  1. Am I missing something but I can’t see what time the warnings have been published on the met office site. They used to show it and it’s obviously useful to see if you are looking at an updated warning.
  2. I was out lunchtime in Ruperra Woods above Machen and I was boiling in my layers. It was just lovely. Myself, I'm hoping everything is over by after next weekend as I need to be in Heathrow on the 8th. I've got lots of beer ordered in this week's shopping delivery
  3. We just had one in Caerphilly. I thought I'd imagined it.
  4. It's been snowing here all day, but instead of accumulating, it's melting. I can just about see my husband's footprints on the block driveway that he made around 11am. They are disappearing, not because they are being filled in, but because the snow around them is melting. I can usually see all of Caerphilly below me, but not at the moment as the cloud is so low.
  5. In Caerphilly it's nice gentle snow. Hubby's just taken the car down towards the main road in case it keeps snowing all day. I thought we had a yellow warning for wind? The snow is showing no signs of wind.
  6. Hi everyone. I’m in St Mellons and it’s been glorious sunshine and blue skies practically all morning. That M4 shield is working well today.
  7. I'm glad I asked the question and I thank you all for putting me right. It is obvious that no light doesn't mean the snow glows on its own accord, but I was assuming that loads of white meant it wouldn't be totally black. Cheers
  8. Three answers in and I'm still confused. So the whiteness of the ground and trees wouldn't show up if there was no light, but if there's clouds and it's snowing, then it would be lighter? Why do I have this question when there's no snow due to arrive for a few months
  9. I've been pondering this myself as it was bugging me whilst reading a book. A bloke goes to a lonely hotel in the middle of a snowstorm, the snow is deep on the ground and in the trees. He's standing in his room when the power goes out and ....... it's really dark. Now I'm sure that if there's snow on the ground, it won't be dark. I remember some years back when I tested it out my back garden which normally has no light, but the other side of my house looks down into town, so would those lights be reflected off the clouds? So can you help me sort this out in my head in the example above. Would it be very dark out - If it's still snowing If it's not snowing but still cloudy. If it's not snowing with clear skies, but no moon. Thanks for any answers as I don't want to look silly if I take up this argument.
  10. I'm at La Plagne at the moment. It is quiet here which is good as there's just 9 runs open. The forecast dump of snow did arrive yesterday. And the forecast rain arrived today. Snow cannons have been on and off all week. It's hard skiing past them as you get goggle mist and the snow can be a bit more grippy. The pistes on the whole are reasonable and no lift queues at all. There's been a message on the resorts website saying there'll be 30 runs and 50 lifts open from Saturday "Subject to favourable weather conditions" Luckily we have a Sunday to Sunday holiday
  11. Thanks J10 I'm off to La Plagne next Sunday and whilst I'm not fit enough to go extensive skiing, I'd like to do a little bit.
  12. We are having a massive downpour at the moment in St Mellons. Thunder, big hailstones and big raindrops. And all the car park is flooded.
  13. The full moon tonight coming up over the hilltops opposite was such an orange colour, I thought there were grass fires on the hilltop. Is a bright orange moon indicative of a weather pattern / system?
  14. It's settling a bit here in Caerphilly. I'm assuming it's just a little shower and I won't need to move my car to the end of my drive? My drive is steep and we like to stick the cars at the bottom when there's to be a bit of snow, as we can get a bit of speed up if we start sliding on it and there's a car opposite (that we have slid into once already)
  15. Very heavy snow here on Treforest Industrial Estate. It is even sticking on the road and pavements.
  16. Snowing tidy in Nantgarw at last. It was snizzly stuff when I left Caerphilly at 7:15
  17. I thought I'd wake up to a green outside, but the only green bits are where I'd walked in the grass during the week. And I kept to my footsteps to keep a nice white lawn. It's the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch weekend http://www.rspb.org.uk/birdwatch/ so the snow should get the birds coming in for some grub
  18. In Caerphilly the snow is just settling on the cars and cleared block driveway.
  19. That's one helluva red sky this morning. The snow fields on the top of the hills are just glowing pink.
  20. It's snowing "proper" snow in Nantgarw. Nice fluffy looking flakes.
  21. Two pics I took this morning. I'd cleared my car and driveway on Monday.
  22. Some councils have sent their staff home (Newport and RCT). Looking at the cameras for the A470, the roads are very quiet.
  23. This is my new favourite site to look at http://www.meteoradar.co.uk/home/Rainforecast?z=4&lat=55&lon=-4
  24. Blimey, I must have a good inch or two, I'm glad we took hubby's car to end of street but it's going to be fun getting to the main road. The A470 on the cameras look like they are running fine, so hopefully the main roads are OK.
  25. I got home from work about 20 past 6, arranged the cars at the end of the drive, put some food out for the birds and it seemed like it was noisy sleet. I used my foot to move a few snowy patches out the way then came in, went upstairs to put my pjs on, watched the weather on ITV, then looked out the window to see the cars and drive were covered with snow and it's piling it down. Hubby's got nervous and has moved his car to the end of the stree.
