  1. Maybe I missed something but for the south looks like an East Kent problem for wind. With mean wind of 30-35 and gusts up to around 55 elsewhere in the south this shouldn't pose too many problems. Rain looks a bigger issue though
  2. Looks like the pub run may offer a glimmer of hope !
  3. It's been dull and uneventful for what seems like weeks down here - praying for something to cling onto on the 18z run but expect more of the same as you say zzz
  4. Cheers Pdiddyb for the chart - must admit having a quick look at GFS 06z for today, they look quite similar but I'm definitely no expert !
  5. Just out of interest - there was a post about a week ago which looked at the current similar synoptic pattern (albeit one week ago now) as against how 62/63 panned out. Anyone have any idea as to how this still currently looks or was that just a blink and you'll miss it similarity - Thanks
  6. So why are you viewing the MOD thread - seems a bit pointless for you if it's all a complete waste of time
  7. Think this is it http://forum.netweather.tv/topic/75389-met-office-contingency-planners-forecasts/page-3
  8. Well at least the models weren't promising snowmegeddon, in which case I can imagine there would be a severe bout of depression on the model thread. As far as I could see the most I could have hoped for in the near FI range would have been near ice days and 'some' snow if i was lucky. Now the autopsies start on which model did best etc etc etc. during this period..
  9. Oh no it's 'Bin It' time on the Mod thread re the 12z. Only mid November and already it's all doom and gloom..sigh
  10. Blimey Gibby mentioning snow - winter prospects must be looking up
  11. Lighten up - i dont think we're talking hurricane katrina here, just a minor gale. So what if he wants a storm, its a weather forum, we each have our likes and dislikes - grow up
  12. and to quote from the headline - Madden says "And he warned that temperatures will also drop through next month rapidly turning heavy downpours to snow." Lol well if that happens I'll subscribe for a year to his site
  13. Yes there will be some localised issues but I just meant its not a disruptive spell of weather that's coming up (for the majority) - just standard autumnal weather !
  14. Which solution shows anything more than 50 mph gusts (and that only for south coast) on Saturday ? Not great for bonfire night but shouldn't be too troublesome apart from rain
  15. I've seen plenty of car crashes caused by snow and ice
  16. My point was though that lots of guys on these forums look forward to some snow and freezing weather and for some reason this is ok - if we take your point literally then we shouldn't be craving for this weather or any type of extreme weather to arrive as loss of life will undoubtably occur. Thats fine but not what the majority I would guess come on to these forums for
  17. Oh really thats a ridiculous statement - if we had 2 cms of snow and some ice , there would probably be 4 people killed on the roads due to the conditions , but then its not caused by a storm so conveniently forgotten. What appears to be a consensus on here then is that if 1 death occurs due to abnormal weather conditions then nobody should enjoy it - crazy
  18. Sorry but have to disagree, 2cms of snow will cause interference with peoples lives especially down here in the south ! You suggest that you would like 15-20 cms of snow as acceptable and then its all conveniently cleared away and everybody gets on with their lives. That amount would cripple the south and certainly roads around my area would take a week or so to get cleared, also lives would be at risk due to a huge amount of road accidents, people falling over and breaking bones etc etc. I would agree with you that we wouldn't want another 1987 storm, but to be honest that last storm was a fairly tepid affair - sure electricity problems and a few trees down but in the grand scheme of things not a storm I wouldn't mind re-appearing to be honest
  19. Probably because its more exciting than the usual banal weather we normally get. Severe blizzards will produce the same risks but I reckon a large majority of posters are desperate for that kind of weather. Plus there is absolutely nothing we can do about the weather so if it comes let those who enjoy it, just enjoy it - no problem for me
  20. Nothing particularly excting for this weekend - wind and rain according to the Metoffice blog Apologies if already posted elsewhere. http://metofficenews.wordpress.com/2013/10/29/unsettled-weather-to-come-but-no-repeat-of-st-jude-in-sight/
  21. Doesn't surprise me - plenty of guys here in Southampton saying much the same I'm afraid
  22. They probably thought it unwise to mention another storm before this one had finished - joe public wouldn't like it !
  23. I agree that the Sky News bit was insensitive and tactless given the circumstances. Surfers however save many lives usually swimmers who get caught in rip tides, so although very tragic, it wouldn't stop me enjoying a sport i love
