  1. Yep ok - probably more as you say an optical illusion, bit cheeky though as its just plainly way out of scale as to how it was that day. I took plenty of pics and vids and most guys I showed them to thought the waves were a bit small ! Think I need this bloke's camera next time ! Nice pic by the way
  2. Anyone else notice this pic which appeared on the BBC Storm page which was taken at Chiswell bay in Dorset last saturday Odd that I managed to escape with my life then as I was drinking at the pub that day. Don't you just love photoshop !
  3. Portland ! That should be a fun place today.
  4. ut oh - it's the weather police ! Whether you want it or not, it won't make the slightest difference to what the weather will do so why get hung up on peoples opinion. It is a Storm thread so I would guess most people look forward to a good storm - I certainly do
  5. It's a bit odd though that the BBC forecasts I've seen this morning just mention wet and windy weather for wednesday. Either the models are overplaying this one or BBC/Met office just being cautious. Next Met office update this morning should tell us one way or the other I suppose
  6. Could be a quite a hefty swell around Cornwall on Wed/Thurs, but low seems to pass through pretty quickly, so brief http://www.stormsurfing.com/cgi/display1.cgi?a=euro_wave
  7. Pretty spectacular at Portland lighthouse today though couldn't stay too long outside due to excessive head freeze from constant spray and cold gale force winds! Decent waves at chesil as well but not causing any flooding problems unlike last Tuesday so the locals said anyway
  8. Agree there - because of the weather warnings in place for the SE most would assume that we would be looking at a period of quite stormy weather coming up, but away from the flood areas and coastal strips, it will be business as usual - just a bit wet and windy.
  9. One last comment on the expected wave heights off cornwall tomorrow - At Sennen Cove.... Still big !
  10. Yep that won't happen ! If a 70ft wave did come along, it would break in a water depth of 100ft + so would be far out from any beach
  11. Actually - though getting a bit pedantic on this, the primary or secondary swell size depicted on these graphs would be the size of a breaking wave IF the break was located near to that buoy. To get an accurate measurement for nearer to cornwall, you'd have to get a buoy measurement closer to home. Anyway its HUGE !
  12. Wave height at K2 buoy for tomorrow 70 ft !!
  13. Yep Chesil Beach - but highly likely that will be closed as well as access to Portland so may have to look elsewhere. An event not to be missed though so will scour the map to check other venues. North Cornwall/Devon just out of my range though
  14. Not me - I'm heading to the coast this Saturday for this incredibly rare occasion of watching the biggest swells this country has seen for a generation - epic !!
  15. Does anyone know whether the road to Portland is closed during theses conditions ? Was thinking of taking camera over pre hide tide on Saturday
  16. Hammering down here in Southampton as well - but there's some very heavy rain going through the channel so could have been a lot worse for more of the southern counties if it had tracked on a more NNE direction
  17. Yep that second band could cause a problem, but this band going through at the moment, the heavy stuff is moving NE along the channel
  18. Looks to me as if most of the heavy rain to come will be clipping East Kent. Channel and Northern France copping it !
